MCYC channel chatter A monthly publication of Multnomah Channel Yacht Club April 2015 The Friendliest Club on the River Since 1961 Commodore Mike White From the Commodore Did March fly by or what? It was a busy month at MCYC. First and foremost, the St. Patrick s Day Party and all of the preparation that went into it. Bob Gedde deserves an atta boy for organizing such a successful event. Of course he had many helpers and they all deserve some praise too. Visiting yacht clubs were; SHYC, LYC, TBYC, TYC, HIYC and DYC. I m sure that Bob has a visiting boat count. The food and all of the events were great. Spud races, horse races and the raffle were well attended. The food was great, Teri and I served up about 30 dozen eggs over the two days!! And don t forget the entertainment, perfect. We have some upcoming cruises and of course Opening Day is just ahead. Teri and I hope to see you at the club or on the channel. CC Mike 50990 Dike Road Scappoose Oregon 97056 www.mcyc1.org First Lady Teri White April 1 st, brings a lot of memories to mind of all the April fools jokes that we have all been a part of over the years. For me this April 1 st was my last day working with an incredible team of people who over the last 6 years have helped so many unemployed people get back to work. I enjoyed it immensely, but most of all I learned so much, especially about myself. It was quite a journey and so it is tough to let go, especially because it is so familiar and feels safe. April 6 th will be my first official day with Peace Health as a Talent Acquisition Supervisor, fancy term for recruiting. I cannot possible tell you how excited I am, I really like new adventures and this is certain to be a challenging one and that is a good thing. Over the years we have faced change in our club many times. I am sure we will continue to evolve. In a card I received this week one line simple said I believe that hurdles in life are meant to be jumped over not as something to stop us. I believe in possibilities. It is a choice. Well I believe that, we have choice to be excited about our club and make it something special every time we are faced with defining decisions. I believe that we will. Ladies a reminder about the ladies dinners, I have on reservation left for Rose City s Mad Hatter Tea party Let me know! Happy Easter First Lady Teri Rose Festival Theme : BLOOMING GOOD TIME

Joe s AMAZING FACTS If you yelled for 8 yrs, 7 mo, and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. ( Hardly seems worth it ) If you farted consistently for 6 yrs and 9 mo, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. (Now that s more like it!) A pig s orgasm lasts 30 min. ( OMG ) A cockroach will live 9 days without it s head before it starves to death. ( I m still not over the pig) Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour. ( Don t try this at home; maybe at work) The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It s like a human jumping the length of a football field. ( 30 minutes! Lucky pig! Can you imagine?) Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump. ( OK, so that would be a good thing!) An ostrich s eye is bigger than its brain. ( I know some people like that! ) Starfish have no brains. ( I know some people like that, too. ) Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. (What about the pig? Do dolphins know about the pig? ) Butterflies taste with their feet. ( Something I always wanted to know.) The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. ( Hmmmmm..) A cat s urine glows under a black light. (I wonder how much the government paid to figure that out! ) Apr. 25 Remember this? IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS Social Director Hello MCYC members: We just finished with our largest MCYC social occasion, the St. Patricks Day celebration and it was a great success. Many of our members spent hours working on this event and they were all noticed and appreciated. Also noticed was that some of the members were not there to help. Some have good excuses, some don t. My goal this year is to encourage.maybe even nag, our members about participation. A successful club has events that give members a chance to have fun and interact with each other. This doesn t happen if you are not there. Joining and belonging to a club certainly gives the impression that you are interested in participating in group activities. We have a full schedule for the rest of the year coming up and they are all planned in advance so that you can mark them on your calendar. Opening Day is coming up soon, Saturday, May 2 nd. Planning and work parties are scheduled starting April 11 th. We will be having a dinner and party after the boats return on Opening Day. It is a bring your own steak (or something to barbecue) and we will furnish salad, bread, and dessert. Bar will be open. Since Opening Day is a mandatory occasion I am assuming you will all be there. As of now I have a member planning a possible June party, Duff s Beach Party July 25 th, Casino night and Hot August nights in August, CRYA golf tournament and the MCYC Ladies dinner in September, Civil war football party in November and the Christmas Ship party/dinner in December. We need a party host in October if someone wants to step up and sponsor something. We will have exact dates for all the upcoming parties by next month. The monthly cruises need more participation. If you haven t been to a cruise you should try it they are fun!! All the dates are on the calendar and in the Channel Chatter. With a social occasion and cruise each month, everyone should find something they want to attend! Please remember: hosting or helping with a planned party is a requirement of membership. Except for October the parties above all have a host but they will be needing help. We have a yearly calendar in the clubhouse with dates of parties and cruises and scheduled Page Eight events are also published in the Channel Chatter. Hope you took the time to read all this..see you at MCYC. BAR SERVERS NEEDED! There is no better way to get to know your fellow members than by tending the bar! You don t have to know anything about making drinks, all you need to know is the OLCC rules. ( Easy!) Online classes are available at www.aplusservereducatio n.com at a cost of $24.99. BUT WAIT! The club pays you back! Pass the test, send a copy of the receipt to Bob Schultheis and you re done! Seriously, we really do need servers, especially for each dinner meeting. Every Monthly Dinner Meeting needs to have a bar tender. If you are in charge of a monthly dinner, please find a bartender if there are none in your group. The licensed servers that we have love to tend bar. But NOT at every function! Please get your servers permit!
