Get Ready for the Expo! Need Electricity? Please notify Ashlynn Cagle by email at acagle@ispacestem.org before January 12 th if your team will need access to an electrical outlet during the Expo. Online Consent/Roster At the Expo, you will need to bring the required team roster printed off from FIRST showing that all of your team members parents have completed the online consent. If a participating student is not listed as approved on the electronic roster, you will need to bring a hard copy of the FIRST Consent and Release form signed by the child s parent/guardian to check-in the day of the Expo. Model and Poster: Models should be on a base no larger than 30" X 15" and should reflect the Challenge requirements as identified for the current year's theme. Teams also will bring a "Show-Me" poster, we strongly encourage using a tri-fold poster (Easier to stand and present but NOT a requirement. Teams should be sure that the "Show-Me" poster contains the criteria listed in the Challenge. Posters should be kid-created and they may use computer generated items on the poster. However, we suggest that you do not change their "inventive spelling" as it is appropriate for this age group. We are pretty good at deciphering their writing! If we can't, we will certainly ask the kids to tell us all about it! As a coach for young children, you can help them with typing if necessary. Remember this is a low-key, non-stressful event to celebrate their work. We can't wait to have meet and learn about what the team experts have learned! Team Sign (optional, but strongly suggested) Each team may wish to create a team sign. A team sign is a helpful identification tool for the volunteer staff/announcers. Your team will want to carry the sign during the awards ceremony to let the spectators know who you are! Please use the following guidelines for creating a team sign: Use a large legible font the parade of teams will take place in a large area Securely affix a handle to the sign Please use poster board or foam board that can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Staples, etc. (approx. 16" X 20") Signs may be decorated as long as it does not obscure the team name Coats & Miscellaneous Team Belongings Please plan to bring a box or plastic tub for all personal effects (coats, hats, etc.) so you can keep track of your team s items and to minimize "spilling out" of these items into the walkway/floor during the Expo. During the awards ceremony, tubs of coats may stay at your table, but we will not be able to provide a guard to watch them for you. It might be best to have the parents keep their child s items with them during the ceremony. How to handle this is left to the discretion of each coach/team. Expo Checklist *REQUIRED* Roster showing consent of each team member Model on 30" X 15" Base (LEGO Base, cardboard, etc.) Show-Me Poster (We strongly encourage using a Tri-fold Board, a wall to lean posters on cannot be guaranteed) Team Sign (optional) Team Spirit! (Optional but team shirts/costumes/decorations all add to the fun of the day!) Extra Batteries for Motor Battery Pack Laptop, Extension Cord, and/or Power Strip as needed Coaches should have all student medical/emergency and parent contact info Money for Concessions (Optional) At the Expo 4

**Team members (students and coaches) may be photographed since this is a public event!** Check-In of Teams Teams will check in at the table s right inside the main entrance. At this time the required team roster that you can print off from US FIRST TIMS showing that all of your team members parents have completed the online consent will be checked. If a participating student is not listed as approved on the electronic roster, you will need to bring a hard copy of the FIRST Consent and Release form signed by the child s parent/guardian to registration the day of the Expo. Please be sure your roster is up to date before the event. At Check-In Expo wristbands will be provided to indicate participating teams. Only team members and their coaches that are listed on the roster form will receive wristbands. During this time, you will also be directed to your table where you may begin to set up your poster and project. Open House for FIRST LEGO League Jr. (Refer to schedule for team open house times.)the Open House portion of the Expo allows parents and other Expo and Tournament guests to have an opportunity to meet the FIRST LEGO League Jr. teams and view their projects. All teams should be stationed at their table for the Open House portion of the Expo. Teams should be ready to share with guests during this time since you are "the experts" for your project! Guests of the open house are asked to only visit teams that are not being reviewed by the friendly reviewers. Review Session (Please refer to the schedule (page 3) for FIRST LEGO League Jr. Expo for Event times) "Friendly Reviewers" will spend approximately 25 minutes with your team at your table evaluating their poster, model and teamwork skills. Both coaches will be at the table with the team but should not engage in the conversation unless specifically requested by the reviewers. Coaches, please make sure your team parents/guests are aware that they will be allowed to stand near the team s area during the friendly review process, but must remain behind the cones. Cones will placed a few feet in front of the teams tables while they are being reviewed so the reviewers have room to work with the teams without distraction. Please remind any guests that they should not engage the team, coaches or the reviewers during the session. This is the kids time to show off their project to the friendly reviewers. Welcome Ceremony and First LEGO League Jr. High-Fives Award Ceremony Be sure the families know to be in the Auditorium prior to the time of the award ceremony in order to find a seat. Teams will need to be at their tables ready to be lined up and escorted to the Auditorium for the Welcome and Awards ceremonies. Teams will be recognized for their hard work and achievements along with receiving some well-deserved High-Fives! We will "medal" each team member as they enter the Auditorium during the Parade of Teams. After the Welcome Ceremony and speakers, we will announce your team's award based on the FIRST LEGO League standard awards list chosen by your friendly reviewer. Teams will then be escorted back to the FIRST LEGO League Jr. area after the award ceremony and will then be released to their parent/ guardian by the coach. FIRST LEGO League Pit Tours If your team would like a tour of the FIRST LEGO League pit area, please meet in the Commissary during your designated time as indicated in the schedule on page 3 following the FIRST LEGO League Jr. High-Fives Award Ceremony. An available FLL team may be there to give your students a tour. 5
