PAGE 5 PETRIFIED FOREST CRUISE March 22,2014 After meeting up at the Mobil station on Country Club Drive, eight club cars ventured out to the Petrified Forest National Park east of Holbrook. Some highlights of the trip include visiting the Painted Desert Inn, stopping at the old Route 66 location, and mind melding with silica impregnated trees. Afterwards a quick trip back to Holbrook for some tasty eating made for a fun day. Use your imagination to see the old Route 66 running along side the telephone line National Park Service positioned this stunning vehicle to mark the position of the old Route 66. No, Sean is not watering Sallies ride, but doing some extended foot/leg exercises to pump up her tire.
PAGE 6 FLAGSTAFF MARCH HOME SHOW - March 28 thru 30th, 2014 KAFF Radio provided the Route 66 Car Club with an excellent opportunity to publicize itself by allowing space for two club cars and a marketing table inside the NAU Dome. Club members volunteered to man the booth to encourage new member signups. Many thanks to KAFF Radio and those club members who gave time to support our club: Bob & Maggie Bortree, Mike Whitaker, Robert Penhaker, Jeff Bryan, Juergen Burmeister, Sallie Page, Cecil & Lela Gary, Chris and Nance Ross, Lance McKee, Randy Travis, Pat Wiebe, & Lacy Ebersole. Early reports indicate that the club may have picked up three new members at the show! Show cars provided by Lacy Ebersole and Chris & Nancy Ross Pictures by Lance McKee
PAGE 7 MINGUS HIGH SCHOOL CAR SHOW REPORT By Juergen Burmeister Bright and early (7:00 AM) on Saturday May 29th, four of us (Jim-LuAnn, Jim-Joyce, Mike, and Juergen) headed for Cottonwood to attend the annual car show at Mingus High School. The ride down Oak Creek canyon was quick with hardly any traffic that time of the day. Lance joined us a couple of hours later. It started out a little chilly but the day turned out to be perfect for a car show. The show was at the same location as before with the addition of new solar panel roofs which provided welcomed shade later in the day. There were about 30-40 cars in all forms and sizes, even a Volkswagen Bug with a V8 engine (see picture). Also, an old Whizzer motor bike in beautiful restored condition was on display in its color-matching pickup. Navajo Tacos were available for those that didn't bring their lunch. Mike was awarded one of the few trophies for his Mustang. The show broke up about 1:30 PM. Hope to see more from the club in up-coming shows. Pictures by Juergen Burmeister and Lance McKee.
