Indoor Flying - Bernie Liquorman We are scheduled to use the Beacon High School Gym (Bulldog Studios) on April 12 and April 26 from 9:00 AM to Noon. The originally scheduled Wednesday April 5 flying day is cancelled due to installation of suspended lighting in the Gym in preparation for a dance recital to be held on April 8 at 5:00 PM. The lighting would be an interference to the indoor models. Also on Saturday April 8 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, there will be an "OPEN STUDIOS" event for the public, where all the Bulldog Studios artists display their works. There is no charge for this event. Last year it proved to be an exciting and rewarding experience for all who attended. I would greatly encourage you all to attend this function with your spouses and families. The Beacon Cultural Foundation, which owns "Bulldog Studios", has done an excellent job in arranging for this outstanding event. Beacon has now become the ART CENTER of the Hudson Valley and we should all be proud of the distinction they have brought to our community. The Flight Line Note from the Editor: Apparently almost everyone is out in the field doing research and finding no time to send any articles or pictures to the poor Flight Line Editor ; ( I don t blame you all - the weather has been great. But, everyone enjoys reading interesting articles and pictures. How about some pictures from the field research? - Bob Magee Great weather if you haven t been able to get out in the past few weeks, you have missed the best March weather we have had in many, many seasons. More to come so get out and enjoy. There are significant date changes to discuss this month. First, Project night has been moved to Friday evening, April 21st at 7:30PM at the Community Methodist Church on Route 376 in Poughkeepsie. This is the same location as the swap shop earlier in the year and the same site as last year s Project Night. For those not familiar with the location, it is about a mile north of the Red Oaks Mill intersection on Route 376, on the left side as you are traveling north. This year s addition of Project Night will feature cash prizes for Best of Show, Best Scale, Best Sport (gas), Best Electric, Best Heli and Best Sailplane. Judging will be by pilot s choice. The Spring Field Clean-up has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 22 nd with a rain date of Sunday, April 23 rd. The start time is 8:00AM and we expect to be complete by late morning. Bring Chain saws, loppers, seed spreaders, weed whackers, shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows. If you have an old rotary mower bring that also. The club will provide a roller, grass seed and tick preventative. Hopefully Lloyd Quick will be able to make it with his York rake to level the parking lot and fill in some of the potholes. If anyone else has access to a small backhoe or equivalent, we sure could use it and would be most appreciative. The field is in generally good shape but we need to continue to improve the driveway and parking area. We really need a lot of participation to make this a short but successful effort. We look forward to seeing you there and thanks ahead of time. afternoons and evenings only to find the field occupied. Also keep in mind there is no gaspowered flight of any kind permitted on the field on Sunday mornings until 1PM. The Indoor activity at the old Beacon High School has been going great with a lot of participation. The dates for April are Wednesday the 12th and 26th from 9 to Noon. These will probably be the last dates until the fall so come on out and enjoy. The next topic is one I am very tired writing about and you are probably equally as tired reading about. It has to do with the safe keeping of the field. I have not been to the field much this winter/spring but when I do get to the field and find the gate wide open with no one else there I become very alarmed. I can only assume the field is left open a high percentage of the time which leaves us exposed to a major problem. The agreement we have with Joe Petrinella, the owner of the property is that the MHRCS will act as guardians of the property, so to speak, so there is no unauthorized dumping, no hunting and to the extent we can prevent it, no all terrain vehicles. With the gate wide open we invite problems. If you recall, the dumping in the adjacent field many years ago almost caused us to loose the field at that time. Sure, there are other ways to access the field but there is none easier than a wide-open gate especially if you have a truckload of junk or a trailer load of four wheelers. Lock the gate on your way out enough said. Relative to field usage, Thursday afternoons from Noon to 4PM is Sailplane and Electric only time followed by Flight Training starting on May 4 th from 4PM to dusk. Please keep this in mind so you are not making a trip to the field on Thursday - 3 -
