2016 Annual Report

Message from the President & CEO On behalf of Canada s Sports Hall of Fame, I am pleased to present the 2016 Annual Report. 2016 was a difficult year for the Canadian economy, especially in Alberta, leading to cuts in funding and Government support significantly impacting the Calgary-based museum operation. Despite these and other challenges, our 2016 Sport Heroes Celebration and Golf Tournament and the 2016 Induction Celebrations presented by Canadian Tire were both very successful and well attended events. We inspired more Canadians than ever before through our events, programs, and exhibits, and continue to develop great new partnerships while appreciative of the many longstanding partners that make our charitable work possible. We wish to thank Colin MacDonald, retiring Chair of the Board of Governors, for his commitment and leadership over the last six years which greatly benefited the museum on a national scale. Mr. MacDonald is passing the torch to Robert R. Rooney, Q.C. who we welcome as incoming Chair. Mr. Rooney has served on the Board since 2013 and we look forward to his leadership in the years to come. Thank you to our inducted Honoured Members, Board of Governors, donors, sponsors, partners, Honoured Member Selection Committee members, staff, and volunteers for their tireless efforts and dedication to Canada s Sports Hall of Fame. Our ability to recognize Canada s greatest athletes and builders and to share their stories to inspire Canadians is possible only because of you! We look forward to a wonderful 2017 full of celebrations for Canada s 150th anniversary and delivering a new Social Media strategy called #InspireCanada to inspire even more Canadians in sport, school, work, and life. Sincerely, Mario Siciliano President & CEO Canada s Sports Hall of Fame #InspireCanada
