CELEBRATING 15YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA North Jersey Chapter - American Singles Golf Association April 2008 President s Message Dear Members, While we all wait for the weather to turn golf friendly and the winds to die down, take advantage of spare time with a trip to the driving range in preparation to hit the greens and start the 2008 season. Hopefully any vision of snow will be long gone when we meet for our first outing April 12 at The Meadows with Ben Ellison. Once again we had a great turnout at the March dinner meeting held at a new venue, Mezza Notte in Fairlawn. Unlike the majority of attendees, it was quite apparent that some of our members have kept their golf game (and tan) alive in Florida. Throughout the evening many conversations centered on the preparations our golfers are taking to get ready for the season. Plans ran the gamut from scheduled practice sessions at the driving range to treating oneself to new clubs. Our golf co-chairs, and Bert Hermann, have promised an exciting schedule with a good listing of outings already posted on the chapter website. The Board encourages and welcomes all members to bring forward your ideas and organization skills for new social activities and golf outings. This is your club - get involved and volunteer to partner with a fellow golfer to sponsor an activity. I would like to remind everyone that the position of Secretary remains open on the Board, anyone care to volunteer? Record meeting minutes couple hours of your time; meeting agenda discussions goes quick and painless with a glass of wine; the opportunity to spend an evening with the Board priceless (as long as you don t count the wine) Remember, reach out to golfing singles and spread the NJ-ASGA word. Do your part, encourage prospective members to attend our meetings, mingles, and outings. Let s look forward to a prosperous year of friendship, growth and great golf in 2008. ~Linda Madernini, President Social Dear Members, our April dinner meeting will be on Wednesday, April 9th at: Aldo s Italian Restaurant 393 Franklin Avenue Wyckoff, NJ 07481 Tel: 201-891-2618 Cocktails: 6:00pm Dinner & Meeting: 7:15pm With RSVP: $30.00 Non-members or members without RSVP, Door Price: $35.00 (FIRM). North Jersey Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association President Linda Madernini lmaderni@ramapo.edu 973-985-1528 Chairman of the Board Mike Lindsay mjlindsay@mindspring.com 201-962-8153 Golf Chairpersons Bert Hermann rberthome@aol.com 201-261-6540 973-831-9516 Social Chairpersons Ann Browne ahbrowne@optonline.net 201-489-1933 Grace Zucaro 201-390-7327 Social Events Chairperson Sandy Fink Sauly226@aol.com 201-242-1489 Membership Chairpersons Gus Eggerling guseggerling@verizon.net 973-962-9023 Judi Westhoven Shellyw24@aol.com 973-835-5290 Communications Chairperson/ Webmaster Donna Beland dwannabe@aol.com 908-781-9081 Secretary TBD Treasurer Corinne Cullison coriculli@optonline.net 201-934-0890 Golf As our season is about to begin, some members of our Chapter have been working hard to contribute to the success of our golf calendar for the year. April, May, and June provide us with a total of 8 local outings. These, along with the outings sponsored by the National ASGA, should keep us busy and keep our golf skills improving as the season progresses. "KUDOS" to Ben Ellison, Leon Saddler, Dave Gray, Bert Hermann, Kari Goldstein, and Ruth Elk for their contributions for the first three months of the season. Checks, which are your outing reservations, have been coming in through the mail AND at the last dinner/meeting at MezzaNotte so don't wait until the last minute and get "closed out" of an event. I'm happy with the fact that we have a variety of outings scheduled (some weekday, some Saturday, some Sunday, as well as weekend overnight's). Variety is important to accommodate the different personal schedules of the entire membership. We have some events scheduled and some in the works for July, August, and September. We, of course, are always in need of members to volunteer to organize an outing. We will gladly work with you on ideas you have for future events. Feel free to contact us through e-mail, phone, or conversation at a Mingle or a dinner meeting. Keep practicing that GOLF SWING and looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming outings. ~Bert Hermann/, Golf Co- Chairs Membership Hi Members: It is great to see that we have finally turned the corner and arrived at spring. Now that weather is finally in our favor we can now get out there and play on the links. I and everyone else should be looking forward to great rounds of golf. Please check your newsletter for the coming month and see that the golf committee has put together a great list of golf events. So make sure you sign up early and get a chance to play. Once again I would like to remind the members to help the membership committee out by posting the yellow flyer at places where there would be people who would be interested in joining our great family of golfers. Also, if you know of anyone interested in joining please bring them to our next social or meeting. I would like to welcome our new members: Elayna Zucker, Gerard O Hara, Lisa Bell and Cathy Marzell. ~Judy Westhoven, Gus Eggerling Membership Co-Chairs ABOUT OUR MEMBERS Happy Birthday to these members: George De Pasquale - 04/04 Pat Harbison - 04/17 Inge Jungbluth - 05/11 Catherine Kennedy - 04/14 Marc Levinson - 04/20 Gabriella Malec - 04/02 Gerard O'Hara - 04/08 Lesley Rothfeld - 04/10 These members are up for renewal: (date shown is last day of membership) George De Pasquale - 04/30/2008 Pat Harbison - 04/30/2008 Charles Kreysig - 04/30/2008 Debbie Putzer - 04/30/2008 Welcome newest members: Lisa Bell - Joined 03/23/2008 George Dente - Joined 02/15/2008 Caren Feldman - Joined 02/18/2008 Cathy Marzell - Joined 03/04/2008 Linda Monforte - Joined 03/27/2008 Gerard O'Hara - Joined 03/06/2008 Elayna Zucker - Joined 03/06/2008 These members recently renewed: Odette Grazina Laura Hirsch Janet Manning Elisabeth McDonald Maria Mosca Janet Wicka These members did not renew their dues: (date shown is date membership expired) Donna McNerney - 02/28/2008 Our chapter currently has 73 members.

CELEBRATING 15YEARS OF SINGLESGOLF IN AMERICA AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION APRIL 2008 Event Dates: Thursday, May 22 Sunday, May 25, 2008 400+ Attended Past Two Years It s hard to imagine the level of excitement we re hearing from all corners of the earth about our upcoming Reunion at Pinehurst. There were two from our chapter last year and now we have eight coming, was a recent note sent to the national office. Comments like that are causing the level of registrations to continue to climb. It s anticipated to be another sellout again. Last year, we had to arrange overflow hotels at a couple of local hotels off property just to accommodate the number of people attending. We contracted form more rooms this year and more rooms at the Carolina Hotel, where most of the social activities will occur. We re well-set to handle 400+ again this year. Register by April 18 for Free Drink Tickets! There are always those last minute attendee-wannabees who d like to get in so to keep yourself from being one of those, register today. You can register online, or you can register using the form enclosed with this newsletter. A form can obtained at the event website: www.singlesgolf.com/pinehurst and at this same website, you ll now be able to register online. Website has full details The standard package is a great deal. If you priced this on your own, you d easily pay twice as much as what you get as an ASGA member. You can t fine a value like this at any great golf resort in the country. Of course, outside of everything Pinehurst has to offer, you get to meet hundreds of singles from various ASGA chapters. As with all ASGA multi-chapter events, you must be a member to attend. Here s what s included in the standard package: 4 days / 3 night s stay, based on double occupancy 2 rounds of golf, cart, range balls, prizes for winners + welcoming gift for all 6 food functions: cocktail party (with 2 free drink tickets if you register by April 18), cookout Friday after golf, Saturday sitdown dinner and 3 lavish buffet breakfasts (live piano playing!) Dancing with our DJ on 1st and 3rd nights (does he dance?) All resort service fees and taxes. The resort service fee pays for bicycle rental, practice green, afternoon tea, on-site trans- portation, fitness center, tennis courts, outdoor pools, etc. In addition, Pinehurst is offering ASGA members a coupon good towards a 25% discount on spa services or one round of golf club rentals. See SinglesGolf.com for details on this coupon. Non-golf packages are available and non-hotel packages are available only to our Pinehurst chapter members. Please review the Pinehurst.com website and check out their hotel accommodations. They re offering the Carolina Inn, the Holly Inn, Manor Inn and their condos again. In addition to these hotels, if your chapter (or group of friends) would like to get eight (8) of your members together and get a villa, which has a common living room and kitchen facility, review the Pinehurst.com website and indicate such on your registration form. Packages start at $512 per person, based on double occupancy and $779 per person based on single occupancy. If you priced this event on its own, you d easily pay $1200-$1300 (dbl. occ.) for all that s included. An optional round at 9:00am on Sunday is offered as well. Again, a registration form is enclosed with this newsletter and you can also obtain one at www.singlesgolf.com/pinehurst Google Docs and Spreadsheets It s rare that we mention other websites out there in internetworld, but here s something that can help you and your chapter. Google, several months ago, introduced Google Docs and Spreadsheets, which could be used by your chapter as a way of signing-up members for golf outings. So it s 11pm on Friday night, all of a sudden, you ve realized there s a golf outing tomorrow at 1pm and you d like to play in it. It s too late to call the event organizer, so you simply go to Google Docs and Spreadsheets, look up the event, and you now see that there is an opening. You simply add your name to the list and you're in! It almost that simple. Each member who wants to use the service must set-up an account with Google but the cool thing about this site is that it allows anyone in the chapter to collarborate, i.e. contribute something to the document or event. So if you re running a social and everyone has to bring a covered dish, you can see what others are bringing so there won t be 12 people bringing cheese balls and bean dip. So go to Google.com and clicking on the More button, then Documents. - - Tom Alsop, President/Founder, ASGA Phone 704-889-4600 or 1-888-GOLFMATE GolfASGA@aol.com
