Light Breeze Attracts Large Fleet - sailing at ease in the breeze Wednesday Wonders Race 6 Winter Series 2017 ( may 2017) This was the lightest breeze in a series that is becoming renowned for light breezes. Observations at Fawkner Beacon indicated it was a southerly averaging 7 knots for the afternoon. Coupled with plenty of sunshine and flat seas the breeze was enough to bring 8 yachts out onto the water for a great race. Being a light breeze a shorter than average course, course 7, was selected and that took the fleet around a 7 leg, 7.9 nautical mile circuit. Forty three per cent of the course was to windward with the remainder downwind. The race produced a new aggregate leader in CASSANDRA of MELBOURNE (Bob Reeves) who had been waiting patiently in the top five since the start of the series. Led by the Cavalier 7 MYUNA III (Geoffrey Nixon) three yachts became podium finishers for the first time this series. MYUNA II was last on the podium on 2 Mar 2016 when she won race 21 in the 2015-16 summer series. Joining her in her latest win was BLUE TACK (Andy Lynch) in 2 nd place and ALIBI (Denis Hambleton) rd. If NUTCRACKER II (Rob Davis & Andy Baker) is in a Wednesday race then she usually sails the course in the fastest elapsed time. This race was no exception. With an elapsed time of 1::2 she was 1 minutes 28 seconds faster than her closest rival BLUE TACK.

MYUNA III combined her worst start with her best finish all in this one race. She has completed races this series recording 2 top ten finishes including a first place in this race. At the start of the series she had a 28- minute handicap but this was reduced to 2 minutes for this race. She started 28 seconds late from 1 th place but moved into 6th place at the first rounding of number. At this stage MYUNA III was still 6 minutes 12 seconds behind the race leader. However, she was able to sail the last legs of the race in 56 minutes 19 seconds and was first across the finish line at 15:58:19. MYUNA III sailed the course in 2:0:19, which was minutes 9 seconds faster than SALT WHISTLE who began the race 2 minutes seconds later. After race 5 MYUNA III was in 22 nd place but she moved into 12 th place following this win. In some respects BLUE TACK has a similar record to MYUNA III. Both have completed races and both have 2 top ten finishes. BLUE TACK started seconds late for her 0-minute handicap from 27 th place. She was one of 6 yachts to have a second start. She completed the first legs of the race in 58 minutes 16 seconds rounding number for the first time in 20 th place. Her last legs of the race were completed in 50 minutes 51 seconds during which time she moved up 18 places. She crossed the finish line in 2 nd place at 15:59:, 51 seconds behind the winner after sailing the course in the second best elapsed time of the race. This 2 nd place put BLUE TACK into the aggregate top ten in 7 th position. The last time ALIBI had a podium finish was 2 nd place in race 2 of the 2016 winter series. Although she completed 22 of the 2 races in the last summer series she did not record a podium finish. However, she did have a top ten finish on 6 occasions. ALIBI began this race from 0 th place 17 seconds late for a 1 minute handicap. She had made significant inroads into the fleet ahead and was in 1 th place after completion of the first legs. She completed the final legs of the race in 5 minutes 5 seconds and was rd across the finish line at 16:01:08. After starting 1 minute 1 seconds behind BLUE TACK she finished 1 minute 58 seconds behind. ALIBI recorded the th best elapsed time of the race. ALIBI moved from 2 th into 16 th place in the aggregate.

All but one of the 8 yacht fleet started within 7 seconds or less of their handicap with 25 yachts starting within seconds or less. The winner of Start of the Day was SALTSHAKER who became the rd yacht this series to start 1 second late for their handicap. The median start time for the race was 7 seconds by far the best of the series. The 8 yachts finished 19 minutes 5 seconds apart. They had started 56 minutes seconds apart and were 2 minutes seconds apart at the first rounding of number. The closest finish was for 2 rd place when ROLLER COASTER (Geoffrey Simpson) crossed the finish line 1 second ahead of FUN & GAMES (Alan Edwards). y a c h t WW Winter Series 2017 Race 6 Start of the Day SALTSHAKER NUTCRACKER II RAZZLE DAZZLE BLUE TACK UPBEAT THE SECRETARY SALT WHISTLE SUMMER WIND PIZAZZ LEBROK WHITE NOISE PHOENIX CONQUEST VANTAGE ESPRIT WIND SPEED FOGGY DEW WATERMARK11 MELTEMI SYC WHITE POINTER MARIBEL SURI MAGIC BON VIVANT STAMPEDE BARNSTORMER SECOND NATURE MYUNA III HOT CHIPPS FUN AND GAMES ROLLER COASTER CASSANDRA MELBOURNE ALIBI WILLARIE PRIMO BRANNEW BACARDI MIDNIGHT MAGIC!me (seconds) 0 50 0 150 1 2 2 5 6 6 7 7 7 8 9 12 12 1 1 1 15 16 17 19 26 27 7 98 WW Winter Series 2017 Race 6 Result :21:6 2:52:8!me (hh:mm:ss) 2:2:00 1:55:12 1:26:2 0:57:6 0:28:8 0:00:00 MYUNA III BLUE TACK ALIBI PRIMO LEBROK WIND SPEED WATERMARK11 WHITE NOISE PHOENIX BARNSTORMER MAGIC BON VIVANT NUTCRACKER II MELTEMI SYC SECOND NATURE CASSANDRA MELBOURNE BRANNEW SALTSHAKER UPBEAT THE SECRETARY handicap yacht RAZZLE DAZZLE SURI ROLLER COASTER FUN AND GAMES MIDNIGHT MAGIC CONQUEST SALT WHISTLE BACARDI WILLARIE ESPRIT SUMMER WIND VANTAGE PIZAZZ STAMPEDE MARIBEL WHITE POINTER HOT CHIPPS FOGGY DEW elapsed

Hope you are on the mend. Bonny has been around for a while and she's not fussy. I try to keep a safe distance but she has her ways. Hope you have divorced that Brony woman, and are feeling better Photos of your yacht. Remember that you can access high quality photos by taking a USB stick to SYC Boating and requesting copies of photos of your yacht on the water Thanks to the Pappa Art seas. Myuna and her wining ways. Mark Does recommend that in cooler months you keep the crew in the sunshine Some Honeymooners take tacky photos of their honeymoon to show people but this photo is not tacky in fact they are going to Windward (Race 5)

A few catch up pics from another races. These are included to see if Dennis will be able to tell which race this was and where on the course they were taken. Do you notice how the sails change colour to blend in with the colour in the sky? Photo One Photo Number 2 Good to see Midnight Magic back on the water with new mast, and a few etc etc, Not quite the best start, she should have been 1 min ahead in front of Willarie, but at the finish line she was 2mins in front of the 2 Triton Hope to see you back on the water; your comments and suggestions are very welcome.
