Division 3 Match Report Round 18 2015 BMFC vs. ANU BMFC 4.5.29 ANU 10.15.75 Best Players: K. Peeters, A. Telford, D. Pawle, B. Telford, L. O'Sullivan, J. Michelle Goal Kickers: J. Veneris, L. O'Sullivan, A. Telford, B. Telford The UC Magpies returned to Jamo Oval for the last game of the season, playing against the second placed ANU Griffins. The first quarter was a fast paced physical encounter, ANU were moving the ball lace -out for majority of the quarter which made defending all over the ground tough. The boys battled well, simple skill errors stopped us from converting onto the scoreboard, however our intent and attack on the footy was there. Brendo Boyle came off minutes into the first with a broken clavicle, would just like to wish Brendo a speedy recovery! The second quarter was similar to the first, ANU had more possession in this quarter but due to our defensive pressure and our will to compete we were able to limit the damage ANU applied to us on the scoreboard. Going into the main break we were still confident and in the game. At the main break we identified three goals we wanted to achieve for the rest of the game. The midfielders needed to be accountable/ defensive around stoppages and spread, our forwards needed to roll up the ground and play higher and we needed to make more contests to bring our fast paced smaller players into the game. The third quarter proved to be our best for the day; we had achieved all of our goals and were able to keep within reach of ANU. Efforts from the big fellas Sandy Maskell-Knight and Blake Mansfield chasing blokes down really lifted the squad. Kane Peeters, Ben Telford and Jamie Clough stepped up in this quarter and really showed their class. The final quarter, showed that it had been a long season and we ran out of steam. To the boys credit they battled for the entire game but were just unable to run both ways in the final term. The game did not blow out, UC Magpies went down by 46 points. Due to the 1s and 2s having a bye this week, I d just like to thank Jeremy Rowe and Tom Fisher for letting some of the boys come down to play at the community level. To those boys that came down and helped out, we really appreciated your efforts. Boys, it has been a tough year but I have faith in this playing group. Let s stick together over the off-season, have a solid pre-season and give 2016 season a red hot crack.
I d also just like to take the opportunity to thank Jeremy Foster for being my bench coach, it s a tough gig but you did an unreal job mate. Lastly to Jo Foster, the work you have done for me this year and for the club is nothing short of amazing. I ve learnt a lot from you and I really appreciate all your efforts. Regards Reaps
Division 4 Match Report Round 18 2015 BMFC vs. ANU BMFC 2.9.21 ANU 16.13.109 Best Players: P. Ryan, S. Ryan-Baker, T. Kendrew, G. Horsburgh, B. Ayling, L. Gray Goal Kickers: L. Gray, G. Horsburgh 4s were at Jamison for their final game of the season against a top form ANU side. In the first quarter, we started well and all were going in hard and fast for the ball. We pushed the ball hard and tried to get it into our forward line and keep it there, however with a turn over ANU were quick to score and we were unable to convert a goal in the first quarter. In the Second we continued to push hard and get to the ball, however, ANU's team was just a class above, this continued for the remainder of the game. The boys dug deep for the entire game and we welcomed the players from Reserves who played for us and helped the margin remain below 100 points. Even with some of the reserves playing for both us and 3s, neither side managed to get close to ANU, which shows that perhaps ANU should play up in a higher level of the competition. A special thanks to Joe Q for his efforts on the day. A huge thanks to all players who have pulled their boots on for this season. It hasn't been an easy one with numbers being short every week (except for this game). While the margins of the games has not been great, I hope you have enjoyed playing with your mates and forming new ones and we all hope to see you all back again next year for another crack at the competition. Thanks to Chilly for bench coaching and to Jo for managing throughout the season, your work was greatly appreciated by all of the players. Thanks to Anthea, Ash and Lauren for all your work in keeping the boys taped and looked after each training and game day, it was greatly appreciated. Cheers Puddles
