UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA / CRIMSON TIDE / ALABAMA PLACES FOURTH AT PACIFIC REGIONAL Senior Jonathan Hardee and freshman Wilson Furr finished among the top five individuals to lead the Alabama Crimson Tide men s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Pacific Regional, which was played on the on the par 72, 7,239-yard Reserve at Spanos Park layout in Stockton, Calif. Alabama closed play with a three-day, 54-hole total of 15-under par 849 (282-280-287) to seal its 20th appearance at nationals and 11th in 16 seasons under head coach Jay Seawell. Alabama, the regional s No. 2 seed, entered the event boasting two of the top-20 golfers in the nation No. 12 Lee Hodges and No. 20 Davis Riley. However, it was freshman Wilson Furr and senior Jonathan Hardee who led the charge for the Tide throughout the week. Furr led all individuals in the field with 16 total birdies on his way to finishing tied for third overall with a 9-under par 207. It was his best result and tournament total this season, while also marking the third time in as many outings he has finished an event in the top 10. The highlight for the Jackson, Miss., native came during the second round when he finished with an 8-under 64, which tied for the fourthlowest round in the school s record books and set an Alabama record for an NCAA competition. Hardee was equally as impressive throughout the week, as he tied for fifth overall with a 54-hole total of 8-under par 208 all season-best marks. The Greer, S.C., native closed the regional with a season-best round of 5-under 67 after carding rounds of 68 and 73 on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. It was his third top-10 result and second top-five finish of the season. Riley tied for 37th with a 1-over 217 (72-70-75), while freshman Davis Shore finished tied for 43rd after carding a 218 (69-74-75). Hodges rounded out the Tide in 61st position with a 223 (75-73-75). FURR ON FIRE Freshman Wilson Furr has been playing his best golf as of late, finishing among the top-10 individuals in each of Alabama s last three tournaments. Prior to the most recent surge, Furr s best finish over the eight previous tournaments played was when he tied for 25th at the Linger Longer Invitational. In addition it his three top-10 results in the Tide s last three outings, the Jackson, Miss., native has bettered his season-best 54-hole score in each tournament. Most recently, Furr closed play at the 2018 NCAA Pacific Regional tied for third with a 9-under par 207 (73-64-70) all season-best numbers. He carded a second round of 8-under 64, which tied for the second-lowest round vs. par in program history and was the best 18-hole total carded by any Alabama golfer in the program s NCAA postseason history. In the, Furr shot a second round 63 which was the best mark by any UA golfer this season. Furr s score not only set a freshman school record, but it also tied for the second-best round in both UA program and history. Former Alabama standout Bobby Wyatt owns both records when he carded a 61 during the second round of the 2014 league championship. Additionally, Furr s 7-under par in the second round of the SECs tied for the seventh-lowest round vs. par in the UA record books. Over his first five events he played, Furr averaged 225.4 strokes per tournament. In the three tournaments since, his 54-hole average has improved by nearly 15 strokes (210.7). CRIMSON TIDE RANKED AMONG TOP-10 TEAMS NATIONALLY The Alabama men s golf team has been ranked among the top-10 teams in the nation throughout the season. Entering the NCAA Championships, the Tide checks in at No. 5 in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Coaches Poll, while Golfstat.com ranked UA at No. 6. The Tide, the No. 5 seed at the NCAA Championships, began the year ranked No. 2 in the nation and has not fallen out of the top 10 all season. RILEY NAMED TO PALMER CUP TEAM Alabama men s golfer Davis Riley will join UA women s golfers Lauren Stephenson and Kristen Gillman, as part of the United States Palmer Cup team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced in mid-march. The trio will be among the 24-player United States squad that will compete against a team of international college golfers at the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup, July 6-8, at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France. Alabama assistant women s golf coach Susan Rosenstiel will serve as an assistant coach for the U.S. team. ADDING TO THE TROPHY CASE The Alabama men s golf team has won four team tournament titles this season and boasts a pair of runner-up finishes in two other events. In the Tide s 10 tournaments played on the year, UA has finished out of the top five only once. In all, Alabama owns four victories, six top-two finishes and nine top-five results, all while playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation. UA boasts a record of 32-18-4 against teams ranked in the top-25, and 64-23-4 against top-50 opponents this year. UA is 66-0 against teams ranked outside the top 50. ALABAMA FINISHES IN 17TH AT 2017 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP The Alabama men s golf team finished in 17th place overall at the 2017 NCAA Men s Golf National Championships in Sugar Grove, Ill., finishing with three day total of 9-over par 873 (287-293-293). The Tide was just two strokes shy of a top-15 finish and a spot in the final round of stroke play at last year s championship. Despite the team s setback, Jonathan Hardee finished a stellar third round which featured five birdies and no bogeys to improve 33 spots into a tie for 17th place overall with a three-day total of 5-under par 211 (69-75-67). As a result, the Greer, S.C., native advanced as an individual to the fourth and final round of stroke play. Hardee, who matched his career-best 18-hole total on Sunday, was one of only two golfers in the field to go the entire round without a bogey, joining Vanderbilt s Matthias Schwab. Hardee was consistent throughout the day, recording three birdies on the front nine and two on the back nine to go along with 13 pars to end the day with the Tide s lowest 18-hole total of the event. Other Alabama golfers who competed at last year s championship included Josh Sedeno, who finished tied for 76th overall with a three round total of 5-over par 221 (75-69-77) on the par 72, 7,300-yard Rich Harvest Farms course. Davis Riley battled back from a difficult front nine with a pair of eagles on the back nine to close play in 95th overall at 7-over par 223 (73-74-76). He was followed by Steven Setterstrom who tied for 117th with a 227 (78-76-73), while Lee Hodges rounded out the Tide in 127th with a 229 (70-75-84). HARDEE FINISHES AS TOP INDIVIDUAL, PLACES 19TH Jonathan Hardee led the Alabama men s golf team at the 2017 NCAA Men s Golf National Championships, as he tied for 19th overall with a four day total of even par 288 (69-75-67-77). The Crimson Tide junior was one of only 22 golfers in the 156-man field to finish the event at even par or better. During Monday s fourth round on the par 72, 7,300-yard Rich Harvest Farms course, the golfers battled high winds with swirling gusts nearing 30 miles per hour. As a result, only four of the 84 golfers who advanced to the championships final round shot below par. Hardee collected three birdies on the day to go along with six bogeys and a double bogey on his way to a 5-over par 77. Hardee began the day with back-to-back pars before a bogey on the 197-yard par 3 third hole snapped his streak of 23 consecutive bogey-free holes. Hardee would go on to record three bogeys and a double in four of his first six holes on the back nine. The Greer, S.C., native had several makeable birdie and par putts, but just was not able to get them to fall. He ended his round on a high note, collecting a birdie on the par 5 18th hole. Despite the struggles in the final round, Hardee s 72-hole score of 288 ranks sixthbest in program history, while his even par total is fourth-best in a 72-hole event. PAGE 2

UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA / CRIMSON TIDE / DUO NAMED TO ALL-SEC FIRST TEAM Alabama senior Lee Hodges and junior Davis Riley were named to the Southeastern Conference Men s Golf First Team, the league office announced on May 10. In addition, junior Alex Green was selected to the SEC Community Service Team, marking the second consecutive year he has earned that recognition. Hodges and Riley become the first Alabama teammates voted to the league s first team since 2014 when four Crimson Tide golfers earned the recognition. That year, the Tide went on to win the NCAA national championship for a second consecutive year. Hodges, who earns his first All-SEC accolade since joining the team prior to the 2016-17 season, has led the Crimson Tide all season and has played some of his best golf during the spring campaign. In the Tide s seven spring tournaments, the Ardmore, Tenn., native has claimed two medalist honors (Puerto Rico Classic and Linger Longer Invitational), owns four top-10 finishes and five top-15 results. Hodges, who was tabbed the SEC Men s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 21, is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings and tops the squad in stroke average (70.96), average vs. par (-0.30) and rounds of par or better (20) this year. Meanwhile, Riley has had an equally impressive season and enters the NCAA Championships ranked No. 26 in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native ranks just behind Hodges in both stroke average (71.03) and average vs. par (-0.24). Riley claimed medalist honors at the Olympia Fields/Illini Invitational last fall, on his way to earning SEC Golfer of the Week recognition on Sept. 17. He tops the Tide with four top-five finishes, while his six top-10 results are tied with Hodges for the team lead. Riley earned his third straight All-SEC honors after being voted as a second-team all-league performer in each of the past two seasons. HODGES, RILEY NAMED SEMIFINALISTS FOR JACK NICKLAUS AWARD Alabama senior Lee Hodges and junior Davis Riley were each named as semifinalists for the Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year Award, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced on May 1. Division I finalists will be named May 24, with the announcement of the five golfers who receive the award coming on May 31. The honor is presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at Muirfield Village Golf Club. In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR s Barbasol Championship, held July 16-22, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 2, at the storied Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. ALABAMA BOASTS TWO ON HASKINS AWARD WATCH LIST Both Davis Riley and Lee Hodges were also recognized for their outstanding season as both are among 20 golfers named to the Fred Haskins Award Watch List, which was announced on March 22. Riley checks in at No. 5 on the updated list, while Hodges debuts at No. 12. The Haskins Award is the oldest college golf award (dating back to 1971) and is the only award that is voted on by players, coaches, sports information directors and select golf media - there is no committee that makes this decision. Voting will open at the end of the NCAA Regionals and run through the end of the NCAA Tournament. CRIMSON TIDE FINISHES RUNNERS UP AT 2018 SEC CHAMPIONSHIP The Alabama men s golf team dropped a heartbreaker on the final hole of the 2018 Southeastern Conference Men s Golf championship match, falling to Auburn, 3-2, at the Sea Island Golf Club on the par 70, 7,005-yard Seaside Course layout. The teams were tied at two points apiece with the final match all square after senior Jonathan Hardee birdied the par 3 17th hole to even the score against Wells Padgett. Hardee nearly aced the hole as his tee shot rolled just past the cup. However, Padgett calmly rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th to clinch the championship. Alabama advanced to Sunday s championship after it captured a 3-2-0 win over fourth-ranked Vanderbilt in quarterfinal play and followed that with a 3-1-1 win over seventh-ranked Florida in the semis. UA reached match play as a result of finishing tied for fourth overall after 54 holes of stroke play with a team total of 8-over par 848 (283-280-285). As a result, the Crimson Tide was one of eight teams that advanced to match play Seniors Lee Hodges and Jonathan Hardee, along with junior Davis Riley and freshman Davis Shore, all finished with a 2-1 record in match play. Freshman Wilson Furr closed with a 0-2-1 mark. DAVIS SHORE NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Alabama s Davis Shore was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the week of May 7. It marked the first SEC weekly honor for Shore and the first Freshman of the Week honor for the Crimson Tide since Josh Sedeno claimed the award for the week of April 5, 2017. Shore led the way for the Alabama men s golf team at the Mason Rudolph Championship on April 13-15 with a runner-up finish. Shore recorded his best finish of the season, and his second top-10 result, to lead the Crimson Tide to a secondplace finish in the event that featured six teams ranked among the top-50 in the nation. The Knoxville, Tenn., native ended the 54-hole tournament with a 2-under par 211 (72-67-72), on the par 71, 7,100-yard Traditions Golf Club South Course layout. Shore matched his career-best round when he carded a 4-under par 67 in the second round, sandwiched between a pair of 1-over par 72s. He also led the entire field in par 4 scoring at 4.04 (+1) and tied for third in par 3 scoring at 3.00 (E). As a result, Shore finished ahead of nine golfers ranked in Golfstat.com s top-100 individual rankings, including going 4-0 mark against top-20 foes. LEE HODGES NAMED GOLFER OF THE WEEK Senior Lee Hodges also picked up a weekly award as he was named the Southeastern Conference Men s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 21. Thanks in large part to Hodges play, Alabama captured the Linger Longer Invitational team title. The Tide carded a final round total of 7-under par 281 and finished the three-day, 54-hole event with a 24-under par 840 (277-281-282) to take a two-shot victory over second place Georgia. Hodges led the way for Alabama, as he claimed his second medalist honor this spring (also won the individual title at the Puerto Rico Classic), finishing with a season-low 54-hole total of 14-under par 202 (67-68-67). It was the second-best tournament score in Hodges career, while the 14-under was a career-best mark in relation to par. Hodges carded three consecutive rounds in the 60s. He tied for tops in the tournament in total birdies (17) and par 4 average score (3.83), while ranking second in the field in par 3 scoring average (2.82). PAGE 3
