About Brest Brest is a progressive city with eyes firmly on the future. The development of Brest s new polder, or port terminal, reflects these ideals in its design and focus on new technology and renewable marine energy. The polder is our future field of play in both the sport and economic arenas. Surrounded by water, Brest is one of the major French hubs in all kinds of sailing and the marine industry; the city was one of the final candidates in the selection for the Sailing events venue for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. We wish to exhibit the economic heritage and diversity of Bretagne at our event with a Hi Tech village, bringing together local businesses engaged in developing technology in Brittany. Not only do we want to showcase amazing sailing, we also want to create a conversation about innovation and an opportunity to network for local enterprises.

Concept de compétition A new concept of competition With more than 20 years of experience on the Olympic regatta circuit, our organization understands the needs of both media and athletes in creating both great competition and publicity. Doing race after race in the same format pleases neither competitors, the media, nor the public. We wish to revolutionize the concept of sailing competition. We will organize the competition with a different format of racing each day. According to this principle, four different competition formats with four different awards ceremonies will be held during the regatta. Competition Plan Four new concepts Against the Clock Pursuit Elimination Match Speed Contest In addition to the four new formats, according to the wishes of the racers and numbers in each sailing class present, classic course racing can be organized in the morning. Course racing will be counted as a separate result. Schedule 8:00-9:30 Skippers breakfast 9:30 Skippers meeting 10:30-12:00 Classic course racing and/or qualification 13:00-17:30 Qualification under specific format 18:00-20:00 Final
Appendix of Race Formats Pursuit The pursuit is a racing innovation with a twist. This format is easily followed by spectators, because each racer departs one after the other. The announcer can comment on each boat, how long it takes them to go around the marks of a racecourse, and any changes in rank around the course. The official order of depart will be given after a practice sequence against the clock. There will be two or three practice sequences from which competitors will use their best time to determine the place in which they will start. For the final, the start will be called with racers leaving two seconds apart for a race that lasts 25 minutes. Against the Watch This challenge will be held on a course directly against the shoreline. Physical and intense, this course will capture the imagination of spectators and keep them in suspense. Competitors will depart while a specific window of time is open. After studying the conditions and course, skippers will decide themselves the best time to start. They will warn the race committee and spectators of their depart by crossing a pre-start gate that will prompts a starting procedure of one minute. This is a dynamic format that supports a discussion of theory about why the racer has chosen that particular moment to start the race, and adds plenty of suspense until the last racer has started. The best time around the racecourse wins Elimination This format is similar to traditional course racing, with a few exceptions. For the qualification series, the format is traditional course racing. However, after each race, the competitor arriving last is eliminated. When all have been eliminated except the final four, these competitors will face off for a demi-final followed by a final of one on one. Speed Contest The speed contest is organized using the classic form of attempts to break a speed record. Competitors must endeavor to achieve their fastest time over a course set up in front of spectators. Results will be posted and streamed live to keep the public in suspense. Each time the record is broken will be an occasion to experience the excitement of the spectators both on shore and watching live. To beat the record, competitors must put themselves at risk and be as aggressive as possible
