The Ragin Cajuns have squared off with Tulane 24 times in their history with the Green Wave boasting an 18-6 (.750) series advantage. The Cajuns welcomed Tulane to Earl K. Long Gym last season, but fell 89-61 against the visiting Green Wave. Alexis Green leads the team with 13.8 points per game, while Jasmine Barnes boasts 10.0 points per game. Louisiana s offense has been steadily improving each game. In the Cajuns last game against Centenary, four players finished the game with double-digit points against the Ladies. The Cajuns were 5-4 during the 2007-08 season against teams from the state of Louisiana. In fact, the Ragin Cajuns have not had a losing record against state schools since the 2002-03 season. The Cajuns have faced one team from Louisiana this season, falling 75-69 in overtime against Centenary on Nov. 23. The 2008-09 Ragin Cajuns women s basketball team is comprised of 16 players. Of those 16 players, seven are from the Pelican State, nearly 44-percent of the roster. The Cajuns have nine new players on the team this season, which accounts for over half of the roster (56.3 percent). Of the remaining seven players, only Whitney Dunlap has more than one varsity letter. A total of 16 teams -- eight men and eight women -- will qualify to travel to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Teams will gather at Summit Arena to vie for not only the conference tournament crown, but for the league s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as well. The Sun Belt Conference has partnered with both the city of Hot Springs and Summit Arena for three years, bringing its annual year-end event to the state s number-one tourist destination. Not since the 1992 and 1993 seasons has the Sun Belt Conference aligned itself with a neutral venue. During those two years, the league championships were played at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi. However, this agreement with Hot Springs will mark the only time the conference tournament has not been played in the city of one of its member institutions. Hot Springs offers the major components the league was searching for when it selected its first truly neutral site -- it falls within the conference s geographic footprint, provides an appropriate and first-class arena, offers attractive entertainment and will be supported by the local community. Dunlap Among Cajuns Best Behind Arc Senior guard Whitney Dunlap began her final season with the Louisiana women s basketball team in seventh place all-time in the Cajuns record books with 93 three pointers made and sixth all-time with 354 three-point field goal attempts. After four games this season, Dunlap is up to 99 triples made, just nine shy of tying Charlotte Green (1999-03) for sixth place in Cajuns history. Dunlap has recorded 18 three-point field goal attempts and is just 64 shots short of tying Onna Charles (2005-08) for fifth all-time. Dunlap currently stands with a career three-point field goal percentage of.315, which ranks 6th in the Cajuns Top 10. Moving Up the Record Books Whitney Dunlap is set to make an impact for the Cajuns from behind the arc this season, but Dunlap is also poised to break into the Ragin Cajuns record books for more than her long distance shots. The Baton Rouge native has played in 91 total games in her career just 16 shy of tying Ann Harper (1983-88), Alyson Habetz (1990-95) and Bernette Tolston (2001-04) for 10th all-time in games played. If Dunlap finishes the regular season playing in every game of the 2008-09 season, she will end her career in third place all-time with 117 games played. Dunlap has a 149 assists in her career, just 48 shy of tying Teena Cooper (1984-88) for 10th all-time. Immediate Impact UL welcomed nine new players to the 2008-09 roster and a pair of newcomers have made an immediate impact for the Ragin Cajuns Alexis Green and Mercedes Johnson. The duo rank No. 1/No. 2 in free throw attempts, free throws made, rebounds, defensive rebounds, rebounding average and steals. The tandem also rank in the Top 5 in points, scoring average, field goals attempts, field goals made, field goal percent, three pointers attempted, three pointers made, three point field goal percentage, free throw percentage, offensive rebounds, assists and minutes. Besting the Boot The Cajuns finished the 2007-08 season with a 5-4 record against teams from the state of Louisiana. In fact, UL has not had a losing record against state schools since the 2002-03 season. The Ragin Cajuns recorded two victories over New Orleans and also had wins against LSU-Shreveport, Centenary and Nicholls State. UL is slated for seven games against schools from the Pelican State in 2008-09, with an exhibition game against LSU-Shreveport. During the 2008-09 season, the Ragin Cajuns will play eight games against teams from Louisiana. The Cajuns dropped their first game against the Pelican State, falling 75-69 in overtime against Centenary. Don t Forget Your Roster In 2008-09, the Ragin Cajuns women s basketball team welcomes nine new players to the team, including seven high school prospects and two junior college transfers. The Cajuns brought in five guards along with four post players. The guards include Michelle Brunker (San Diego, Calif. The Bishop s School), Jamie Gunter (Columbus, Miss. Columbus High School), Becky Hall (Iowa, La. Lacassine High School), Nicole Morris (Cypress, Texas Cy-Fair High School), and Krystal Motley. The front court includes Alexis Green (Dallas, Texas Dallas Skyline High School/Blinn Junior College), Mercedes Johnson (Houston, Texas Langham Creek High School), Amy Richard (Opelousas, La. Rosary High School/Fullerton Junior College), and Keionna Ross (New Orleans, La. Port Allen). Another name that might be unfamiliar is Jessica Sigue (New Iberia, La. New Iberia Senior High). She did not join the Cajuns squad until late in the 2007-08 season. www.ragincajuns.com 2008-09 Louisiana Women s Basketball Notes 4

BY THE NUMBERS 19.1 The Ragin Cajuns women s basketball team averages just over 19 years old. Whitney Dunlap and Amy Richard are the two oldest players on the team at 21. 4 Alexis Green is leading the Ragin Cajuns with a 13.8 scoring average. She is the only Cajuns player this season to post doubledigit scoring efforts in all four games this season. Last season, only Alicia McDaniel (2005-08) and Courtney Ratliff (2007-08) had stretches of scoring doubledigit points longer than four consecutive games. McDaniel bosted two 10-game spans of double-digit scoring, while Ratliff had a stretch of seven straight games. 9 Whitney Dunlap, who ranks seventh alltime in UL history in three pointers, has made a pair of threes in every game this season to give her 101 in her career. She is just nine triples shy of Charlotte Green (1999-03) who has 110 career three s for sixth place in school history. 7 Louisiana s three-point defense has held their opponents to just seven baskets from behind the arc this season. Opponents are shooting just.179 from the perimeter. Conversely, the Cajuns have drained 16 triples on the season. 8 Freshman Mercedes Johnson finished the Centenary game with 12 points on the afternoon. She was perfect from the charity stripe, connecting on all eight of her free throw attempts. Last Time Out...Centenary (Nov. 23) LAFAYETTE-Louisiana s Ragin Cajuns women s basketball team battled back from a 10-point deficit with just over five minutes to play in the second half to force overtime, but was outscored 6-to-0 in the extra frame by Centenary as they fell 75-69 on Sunday afternoon at historic Earl K. Long Gym. Trailing 69-67, Alexis Green made her second field goal of the game count as she connected on a layup as time expired to force overtime. The final basket closed out a 20-to-10 drive by the Cajuns to end regulation. The Cajuns push fell short as they were unable to convert any baskets in overtime, finishing the OT period 0-for-8. The game was close the entire day and featured four lead changes with eight ties. The Cajuns led by as many as seven points, and trailed by as many as 10. Louisiana took advantage of their speed, outscoring the Ladies 18-to-2 in transition. UL lost the rebounding battle 56-to-39, but matched Centenary with 38 points in the paint. The Cajuns offense showed up on the day with a season-best four players scoring in double-figures. UL was led by D Mya Clay who finished the day with 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting. She added seven rebounds, a pair of steals and an assist in 26 minutes of action. Green started the game off slow and had just four points for most of the game. She scored seven points in the final 3:22 of regulation, including the game-tying buzzer-beating layup, to finish the game with 11 points. Green has scored in double figures in all four of the Cajuns games this season. She also pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Green is the first player of the 2008-09 season for UL to post a double-double. Mercedes Johnson posted her first double-digit scoring effort of the season, netting 12 points by intermission. Despite scoring a dozen by half time, she failed to score in the second half and finished the game with 12 points, highlighted by a perfect day from the charity stripe, going 8-for-8. Jasmine Barnes was once again solid for the Cajuns, netting 12 points in the game. The sophomore opened the game shooting 4-for-5 in the first stanza for eight points and added a pair of baskets in the second half to finish the game in double digits. The Cajuns trailed 2-0 in the opening minutes of the first half, but a pair of free throws at 17:05 tied the score at 2-2 and Louisiana never trailed the remainder of the first half and went into the locker room with a 35-33 advantage. The Ladies chipped away at the Cajuns in the second half and tied the ball game at 39-39 with 15:42 in regulation. A basket by Centenary s Cierra Bush with just over 15 minutes in the second half gave the Ladies their first lead since the score was 2-0 at the 19:34 mark of the first half. After exchanging baskets over the next three minutes, Centenary used a 12-0 run to take the lead 56-47 with just under seven minutes to play. A triple by Centenary gave the visitors a 59-49 advantage with 5:21 on the game clock. The Cajuns finished out the half with a 20-to-10 run that culminated with Green s buzzer-beating layup to force OT. UL was held scoreless in the extra frame and ultimately dropped their fourth game of the season. Last Time Against Tulane (Nov. 28, 2007) LAFAYETTE Louisiana s Ragin Cajuns dropped an 89-61 decision to Tulane in Lafayette. The defeat spoiled the Earl K. Long Gym debut of head coach Errol Rogers. The energetic Long Gym crowd of 527 was one of the highest in years. Louisiana trailed by double figures at the break, but Onna Charles started the second half with a basket in the first three seconds. Charles bucket trimmed the host s deficit to 12, but the Cajuns would never get any closer. From there, Tulane used a 17-4 run to take control of the game. The Cajuns were unable to cut their deficit under 20 points for nearly 10 minutes. Playing for the first time since the 2004-05 season, Elaine McCants sparked a 10-2 run that pushed the Wave lead down to 74-55 with 4:41 left in the game. McCants hit a long three-point basket as the shot clock expired to ignite the run. UL had trouble stopping the Green Wave s Brittany Lindsey, who led all players with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Tulane shot 54 percent and owned the boards, holding a 48-31 edge. The Cajuns were led by 11 points and nine rebounds from Sonora Edwards. McCants finished with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. The Cajuns led for the game s first 3:33 until the Green Wave started to get hot from the floor. Tulane used a 10-0 run to take a 14-7 lead at the 14:57 mark. UL responded with energy from a lively crowd. The Cajuns outscored the Wave 6-2 over the next 96 seconds to cut their deficit to 16-13. The Cajuns cooled again, but Tulane remained hot, banking-in several shots during a 15-0 spurt that put the visitors in front 33-14 with 5:42 remaining in the half. Edwards stopped the Cajuns scoreless drought with an offensive rebound and put-back. As the Cajuns crept closer, Lindsey helped keep Tulane out front. Lindsey scored four of her 14 first half points around a free throw by Alicia McDaniel to give the Wave a 38-20 lead with 1:52 left. Two from the stripe by Whitney Dunlap and back-to-back lay-ups by Charles gave the Cajuns a 6-0 run to end the half down by 14, 40-26. www.ragincajuns.com 2008-09 Louisiana Women s Basketball Notes 5

A total of 16 teams -- eight men and eight women -- will qualify to travel to Hot Springs, Arkansas. Teams will gather at Summit Arena to vie for not only the conference tournament crown, but for the league s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as well. The Sun Belt Conference has partnered with both the city of Hot Springs and Summit Arena for three years, bringing its annual year-end event to the state s numberone tourist destination. 2008-09 Women s Preseason All-Sun Belt Team First Team All-Sun Belt Anshel Cooper (UALR, Jr., G) Kim Sitzmann (UALR, Jr., G) Veronica Smith (Arkansas State, Jr., G) Amber Jackson (North Texas, Sr., F) Dominique Duck (WKU, Sr., F) Second Team All-Sun Belt Monika Bosilj (FIU, Jr., G) Chelsia Lymon (Middle Tennessee, Jr., G) Brittany Helm (New Orleans, Jr., G) Brittney James (North Texas, Jr., G) Arnika Brown (WKU, So., F) Third Team All-Sun Belt Shay Scott (Arkansas State, So., F) Lottie Moore (ULM, Sr., G) Shakira Nettles (South Alabama, Jr., G) Kylie Morrissy (Troy, Sr., G/F) Kenzie Rich (WKU, Jr., G) Preseason Player of the Year Dominique Duck (WKU, Sr., F) 2008-09 Women s Preseason Coaches Poll As voted on by all 13 league head coaches; first-place votes in parentheses East Division 1.
