The Cubs have won a season-high tying three-straight games and aim to win four-straight contests for the first time since July 6-9 of last season vs. Pittsburgh (2-0), at the White Sox (1-0) and vs. the Angels (1-0) prior to this current three-game winning streak, the Cubs had dropped 10 of 12 from May 4-16. Chicago looks to win two-straight series (of multiple games) for the first time since taking three-straight, June 21-30 of last year vs. Houston (2-1), at Milwaukee (2-1) and at Seattle (2-1). The Cubs tomorrow begin their first trip out to the West Coast, a 10- game, 11-day trek to San Diego (four games, starting tomorrow) and San Francisco (three games, May 26-28) that concludes with three games in Milwaukee (May 30-June 1). TOUGH LUCK: Today s Cubs starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija takes aim at his first win of the season despite leading the majors with a 1.62 ERA (11 ER/61.0 IP) through his first nine starts of the year overall, Samardzija is winless in his last 15 starts dating to August 30 of last year his last victory was on August 24 of last season in San Diego. Samardzija has a 3.20 ERA (35 ER/98.1 IP) in his last 15 starts since August 30 of last year, going 0-6. He s allowed three or fewer earned runs in each of his last 12 starts since September 17 of last year the last Cubs pitcher to do that was Matt Garza, who went 13-straight starts with three or fewer earned runs, August 3, 2011-April 12, 2012. AGAINST THE AMERICAN LEAGUE: Chicago owns a 123-139 (.469) alltime interleague record, including a 2-5 mark this season the Cubs are slated to play eight interleague series this season, totaling 20 games. THE KIDS CAN PITCH: Cubs rookie pitchers Neil Ramirez, Zac Rosscup (now on the disabled list) and Brian Schlitter have combined to go 2-2 with a 1.89 ERA (7 ER/33.1 IP) in 34 relief appearances they ve combined to strike out 30 and walk just eight while holding the opponent to a.164 batting average (19-for-116). REGARDING RIZZO: Anthony Rizzo is hitting.270 (17-for-63) with a double, four homers, 11 RBI, 18 walks (compared to 12 strikeouts) and a.903 OPS in his last 18 games dating to April 30 with eight walks in his last six games, he has a.400 OBP in 43 games this season, seventh-best in the N.L.
