President s Message: June has snuck up on us. It will be another busy, wonderful month at the Club. Our course is looking wonderful and is in prime condition. I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy it as our green conversion is right around the corner. May was a very successful month for us. We had a good field for the Maumelle Classic and another one for the Four-Ball Tournament. In addition to these, we had several other successful outings. All of these contribute to the revenue and success of MCC. The Board recognizes the numerous events in May and June and we thank all members for their participation and patience. Memorial Day Weekend was a great way to end the month and start the summer season. With the pool being opened, please be mindful of the many members and their children using it and let s all be safety conscious. Jeff Frazier, our new General Manager, is on board and if you haven t met him, please do so. Many of you came to the reception we had for him. Jeff is very enthusiastic 2645 about MCC and has hit the ground running. The Board expresses its thanks to Gib, Todd and others who donated their time in our transition from early April to now. We also wish Monica Young success in her new position at LR Air Force Base. In her tenure at MCC, she booked many events that added additional revenue to MCC in addition in working with the membership committee to attract new members. It has been brought to my attention that we are not mindful of the stop sign at Par Drive when crossing to go to the first tee. Please take the time to stop and make sure it is clear before crossing as we don t want any accidents or close calls. Let s all take pride in and use our facilities, whether it s for dinner, a dip in the pool or a round of golf. See you at the club. MANAGER S MESSAGE Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jeff Frazier, I have one daughter, Lainey who is going to UCA in the fall. I own a home here in Maumelle. I am a golfer although I am banned from playing right now due to a rotator cuff injury. I am very excited about being your new General Manager here at Maumelle Country Club. I received my baptism under fire my first week with the 4-Ball tournament and Memorial Day festivities. Talk about hitting the ground running! I would like to thank everyone who came out for these events, I hope everyone had a good time! I see a ton of potential in this club, the members all seem to care a great deal about their club and I will work hard to make Maumelle Country Club the best club it can be! I look forward to meeting all of you and eventually learning your names. Come out for dinner or a drink and say hi to me, I d love to meet all of you and hear from YOU what you d like to see at the club. My door is always open to every valuable member. Please bear with me and I ll have all your names within a short time, although as I get older my memory gets weaker. Growing older isn t for sissies! Exciting things are taking place at Maumelle CC, new greens are coming soon, I am in the process of planning out a new 2256 menu and any input is welcomed as far as what you d like to see on your plate here at the club! I am planning some member events that I think you will also like! The lifeblood of any club is its members and like most clubs we need new members, if you know of a potential member, please do not hesitate to contact myself or our new Membership Director Tiffanie Toler. We will all miss Monica but I hope you will join me in welcoming Tiffanie to the family! I d also like to thank Monica for all the hard work in helping make this club a success! It bears repeating how excited I am to be your new G.M. and I will work hard to make all of you happy about being a member of this fine club! I ll make mistakes, I m sure, but it won t be because of a lack of effort in trying to please the membership base. I would like to thank you all for this wonderful opportunity to serve you, I won t let you down! See ya at the club! From the Pro Shop First off I would like to thank everyone who assisted with the 2008 Clark Power/Lumber One Maumelle Classic. All in all, I feel it was a success. The Classic Champion this year was Bryon Shumate. We look for it to be even better next year. The help from the membership is what really keeps this tournament alive. We have by far the best amateur tournament in our state if not the Mid-South. A special thanks, again, to all those who helped make such a wonderful event possible. The Four-Ball was also a success. Though participation was a bit on the low side due to graduations and things of the like, participants still managed to find a way to get out here. Thanks to all whom participated and to the tournament committee for doing such a great job planning the events. As the year goes on, be sure to pay close attention to the golf calendar to stay informed of what events may be taking place. We have several events this month that may affect your plans. The golf calendar can be accessed by going to the Golf link on our website. An insight of things to come June 6 th -7 th is the MWGA Mixed Couples Invitational. This is always a great event. To sign-up, contact the Pro Shop or Sandy Carpenter. June 20 th is the MGA Nite-Golf tournament. This event is always a blast. Back Nine (daylight) is a 1,2, 3 format followed by the Front Nine (Nite-Golf) in a scramble format. This month we also have our Club Championships June 21 st -22 nd (Women s) & June 27 th -29 th (Men s). Remember, the Club Championship is a good way to get into the Mayor s Cup. Juniors. Instead of doing 2 solid weeks of golf clinics we will be stretching it out to span the whole summer. The first Junior Clinic will be held on June 10 th @ 3:30 PM. Pricing information will be sent via email. We will also have more tournament days instead of only two. A few members came up with the idea of having an Adult/Junior on Tuesdays, so we will be incorporating this into our schedules each Tuesday after the clinic. This will allow the Juniors to get more acquainted with the course and how to use proper etiquette and rules. I look forward to seeing all of you here for a great summer filled with golf. MGA NEWS I think golf weather is here to stay. I just hope the 100 degree heat holds off for a while. Thank you to all that played in the Presidents cup tournament. We had a good turnout and couldn t have asked for a better day. Even though there were only a couple of vendors for Demo Day it looked like there were a lot of golfers looking for some new gear. Father s Day is coming up so maybe you could drop some subtle hints. This month we have the Nite-Lite scramble coming up on June 20th. Everyone will play nine holes on the back nine starting about 6 PM followed by dinner in the Men s Locker room. Then we will head out to the front nine to play nine holes of Nite- Lite golf. This tournament is limited to 44 players, so be sure to sign up early. Best of luck, everyone! And remember don t hesitate to offer up any suggestions for future tournaments or project ideas you may have for the course. Thank you for your support of the MGA! Golf Course Update Summer is here. And it is going to be a busy season! We are currently addressing any surface drainage issues on our greens in preparation for our resurfacing in July. While work is being done we will play the temporary green on that hole. Also, we will be doing tree work to clear some shade issues around the greens so the new Bermuda has plenty of sunshine. Time must also be spent on our practices of fertilizing early this month and aerifying tees and fairways in July. I would like to remind everyone that our cart rules are 90 degrees except on 11, 16 and any par threes. As always please pay attention to our signs and ropes. Please feel free to contact me, or stop me on the course 1238 if you have any questions, comments or concerns about our resurfacing project. Have a great round!
