Trainer Mr G Vella pleaded guilty to a charge under AR80E in that, when visited by Stewards on the morning of 7 June 2018, he was found to have on his stable premises a preparation which had not been registered in compliance with the relevant Territory and Commonwealth legislation. Mr Vella was fined the sum $400. App A Sweeney was fined the sum of $50 under AR92(10) for failing to produce his winning rides booklet prior to weighing out. App P Scorse was fined the sum of $50 under LR68 for failing to produce a letter of authority. RACE 1: CRC Membership Join Now Class 1 & Maiden Plate Missy Moo Cow Slow to begin. 1750M Tuskegee Commander Shifted out on jumping and made contact with Chief Of Arlington. Future Time Passing the 1300m laid in away from Apache Junction and made contact with the running rail. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, rider app A Sweeney stated that his mount commenced to weaken from the 600m and was very disappointing in his view. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Spencer Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. 1
RACE 2: Farewell Russell Herbert Benchmark 65 Handicap 1900M Le Sacre Blur Passing the 1100m when pulling hard, had to be restrained when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Ausbred Diamond. Le Cavalier Passing the 500m had to be restrained from the heels of Ausbred Diamond which was weakening. Victory Anthem When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, the only explanation that rider K Jennings could offer was that the gelding may not have run out today s journey and further may not have appreciated the synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Trainer Mr M Newnham concurred with the rider s view in that it was also his belief that the gelding failed to stay today s 1900m journey. Ausbred Diamond When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, rider app Q Yong stated that his mount was under pressure from the 600m, did not respond to his riding in the straight and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormality. RACE 3: Melbourne Cup Day Bookings Maiden Plate 1080M Who s Shout Refused to be loaded and was a late withdrawal by order of the Stewards at 1:55pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on Who s Shout be refunded in full and further that all successful bets placed with bookmakers prior to 1:55pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st : Enjoy The Stars: 23c win and 5c place 2 nd : Gaelic Bolt: 39c place 3 rd : Palamedes: 39c place Trainer Mr N Gardner was told that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the Steward s satisfaction prior to being permitted to race again. Palamedes Change of tactics: To be ridden quieter; settled back. Red Opera On return to scale, rider B Murphy reported that his mount hung out rounding the home turn when it resented the kickback and raced greenly throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormality. Average Out Hampered on jumping by Enjoy The Stars which shifted in. Gaelic Bolt Trainer Mr F Skerbic was told that a warning would be recorded against the gelding which hung in in the straight and proved difficult to ride out. Myloveforlara Passing the 150m was hampered by Ambellara which shifted in but was quickly corrected by its rider. 2
RACE 4: National Jockeys Trust Class 1 Handicap Ellebeedee Slow to begin. 1206M Gifted Curves Bumped on jumping with Living Doll. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which raced three wide in the lead throughout, did not reveal any abnormality. Black Magnum Began awkwardly. Briefly held up on straightening. Motime Raced four wide in the lead throughout. Silver Comet Passing the 500m had to be eased from the heels of Gifted Curves which commenced to weaken and was shifted in. On straightening was inconvenienced by Living Doll which shifted out. Ninky Konk Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. RACE 5: Seears Workwear Maiden Handicap 1280M Four Beers Please The gelding which was fractious in the barriers was examined by the Club s veterinary officer and passed fit to start. Stable representative Mr M Jones was advised that a warning would be recorded against the filly. Constitutional Became a little fractious in the barriers, lunged forward and got its head caught between the partition and the front gate hinge for lengthy period of time necessitating in the removal of all other loaded horses from the gates to assist in the removal of the filly from that position which delayed the start. Constitutional was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3:08pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on Constitutional be refunded in full and further that all successful bets placed with bookmakers prior to 3:08pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: 1 st : Quantum Time: 9c win and 7c place 2 nd : Breezesun: 9c place 3 rd : Poincon: 20c place Trainer Mr J Cleary was told that in the circumstances a warning only, would be recorded against the filly and further that a veterinary clearance would be required before it were permitted to race again. Louisiana Belle A little slow to begin. Passing the 950m when over-racing had to be shifted out off the heels of Star Statement and was obliged to race wide without cover for the remainder of the race. Mr Wemmick Slow to begin. RACE 6: John McGrath Auto Group Benchmark 65 Handicap 1206M Due to the issue concerning Constitutional being trapped in the gates in the preceding race, this event was put back 5 minutes to 3:44pm. Bond Of Faith Slow to begin. Diamond Charlie Was a little slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Emerald Fortune Raced wide throughout. Fui San Raced keenly in the middles stages. Held up rounding the home turn. RACE 7: TAB Federal Benchmark 55 Handicap Greyfell Slow to begin. 1280M Bella Deluxe Began awkwardly. Lansala Was a little slow to begin. Attainment Raced wide throughout. Jar Of Hearts Trainer Mr R Potter was fined the sum of $50 under AR59A for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the mare. Rider app Ms A Stanley was reminded of her obligation to rider her mount out to the end of the race. Mirrabooka Pulled very hard for some distance after the 1000m and had to be restrained away from the heels of Embezzlement. RACE 8: Jockey Celebration Day Benchmark 54 Handicap 1080M Red Hot Tango As app P Scorse was found to be overweight, Stewards permitted app Q Yong to be substituted as the rider of the gelding. At a subsequent inquiry, app P Scorse was fined the sum of $100. Bells Creek Slow to begin. Agrovation When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, rider M Bell stated that his mount was unsuited when unable to show the necessary speed to lead, may not have appreciated the synthetic surface and also was obliged to race wide. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality. Lulu Raez Hung in in the straight. Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following rider exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) or on consecutive occasions under AR137A(5)(a)(i). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. 4
