History and Philosophy of the Range of Foot Orthoses These simple but effective devices were designed to give the practitioner a quick and easy prescription base. X-Lines can be modified, and have now established themselves as the first line of defence in many clinics. The term X-line refers to the co-ordinate system where the sagittal plane is represented as an X. Because gait is about moving forward, most motion of the foot occurs in the sagittal plane just like the rest of the joints in the leg. In describing this feature, the best analogy to use is that of a car driving over a humpback bridge. decelerate As the car approaches the bridge, it slows to go up the incline. Calcaneal plantarflexion is reduced when the meets the. Each X-Line orthotic is a total contact device meaning it is in contact with the shoe throughout its length. Made from expanded foam, each X-Line device has three common features: stabilise At a safe speed, the car crosses the hump of the bridge. The foot is stabilised when fully loaded on the. contoured A contoured seat affording control with comfort for the patient. A. An integral part of the design, this hump reduces the speed and amount of distal calcaneal plantarflexion in the foot. X-line also has a atarsal freeing the atarso-phalangeal joint from early and high pressure in stance to allow good sagittal motion as the foot accelerates towards the next step. accelerate wedge kit compatible Once over the hump, the car accelerates away. The 1 st ray drops into the and encourages the MTP joint to bend, the raises and sagittal movement within the foot has been maximised. Specifically designed for the X-Line range, the wedge kit comprises a pair of 4 degree and 8 degree wedges. The kit offers a rearfoot wedge which extends into the arch enhancing the control provided by the. Before fitting any X-Line orthotic, make sure your patients footwear is appropriate for their needs. If you can, remove the existing insoles and be ready to adjust the lacing. For more fitting advice visit: www.healthysteporthotics.co.uk All terms and conditions to be found at: www.baileyinstruments.co.uk

line Standard The standard X-Line device offers low profile, low volume and infinite versatility. It is quick to fit and easy to adjust. The X-Line offers the patient optimal comfort, and can be trimmed to fit virtually any shoe. Its flat base readily accepts additions and modifications. decelerate stabilise accelerate X-Line wedges have been specifically designed to enhance the sagittal plane control provided by the X-Line device. LEX-XA Extra Small 1-2.5 33-35 ERU4599 LEX-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERU3154 LEX-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERU3155 LEX-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERU3156 LEX-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERU3157 LEX-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERU3158 contoured X-line standards work best in a stable supportive shoe. Always check the shoe bends across the forefoot and not across the midfoot. Make sure you can t twist the middle of the shoe (this is called torsional instability). If the shoe is unstable consider the x-line RIF. The X-line standard is a great choice for older patients in stable shoes. wedge kit compatible

line Extra The X-Line Extra contains one pair of X-Lines and a wedge pack. The wedge pack contains a pair of 4 degree and 8 degree posts. These wedges have been designed specifically to enhance the sagittal and medial control provided by the X-Line device. The X-Line wedges are shaped to provide a rearfoot hemi-post,allowing easier fitting to everyday shoes. The post extends forward to supplement the of the X-Line device. decelerate stabilise accelerate When deciding on adding posting to an X-Line, make sure the shoe it is going to fit isn t badly worn on one side of the counter. A shoe used a lot for driving, or if feet are turned out when walking, can lead to excessive lateral wear increasing a medial post s effect. A shoe worn badly on the inside of the might reduce the effect of medial posting. LEX-AW Small 3-5 36-38 ERU3149 LEX-BW Medium 6-8 40-42 ERU3150 LEX-CW Large 9-11 43-46 ERU3151 LEX-DW Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERU3152 LEX-EW Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERU3153 contoured Order Qty www.baileyinstruments.co.uk

Pressure line Perfect Originally designed to meet the mechanical challenges of the high risk foot, this low profile contoured insole provides ultimate comfort to all users. Pressure Perfect s shock absorbing properties have widened their appeal to include walkers, runners, tennis players and in multi-directional sports where supportive cushioning adds to performance. The top cover material is a superb balance between shock absorbency and durability. Its closed cell structure means it resists bottoming out and it recovers between steps. decelerate stabilise accelerate LEXP-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERU2387 LEXP-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERU2388 LEXP-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERU2389 LEXP-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERU2390 LEXP-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERU4574 contoured The X-line Pressure Perfect is an excellent choice where plantar tissue is compromised, such as diabetes, rheumatoid feet, and in plantar-tissue atrophy due to age or vascular disease. However, it is also extremely effective for bariatric patients where the plantar tissue is under high stress but the patient is unable to tolerate firm support. extra cushion top cover wedge kit compatible

line 70 As a further development of the already successful X-Line range, practitioners asked for a firmer version. The X-Line 70 is so-called as it has a shore value of 70, compared to a shore value of 50 in the standard X-Line. The X-Line 70 is a low profile device. Due to its high shore value this device can be heavily modified by grinding and trimming to create intrinsic posting meaning less bulk in the shoe. decelerate stabilise accelerate When shoe space is an issue, consider the X-Line 70 as posting can be ground in rather than being added. If posts are ground in, they cannot fall off. This device is an excellent choice where working or leisure activity can lead to the insole getting wet. LEX70-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERU3320 LEX70-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERU3321 LEX70-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERU3322 LEX70-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERU3323 contoured wedge kit compatible www.baileyinstruments.co.uk

line RIF The X-Line RIF (reinforced) insole was created in response to clinicians requests for an X-Line with greater durability. The X-Line RIF provides a durable, anti-bacterial top cover and a reinforced plastic shell to offer greater integral strength. Extra modifications are possible due to the improved structural rigidity. decelerate stabilise accelerate LEXR-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERU3316 LEXR-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERU3317 LEXR-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERU3318 LEXR-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERU3319 LEXR-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERU4575 reinforced shell contoured If a shoe lacks torsion stability the X-line RIF will provide it. The X-line RIF is a great choice where the patient is active or where greater support is needed to control abnormal foot posture in gait. wedge kit compatible

Condition Specific INSOLES line DJD X-Line DJD (Degenerative Joint Disease) Osteoarthritis, or degenerative joint disease, is often responsible for painful hallux limitus and rigidus. This debilitating condition can limit patient activity as well as causing great pain or extreme discomfort. A lace-up shoe with a deep counter and a removable insole is recommended in combination with these orthoses. If the shoe has a stiff mid-sole throughout and a convex out-sole profile, the X-line DJD will work much better. You can test the shoe by putting on a hard surface and seeing if it rocks forward with the lifting off the surface when you press down on the toe box of the shoe. The X-Line DJD offers rapid relief of this common problem by reducing the loading rate of the atarso-phalangeal joint, reducing the dorsiflexion bending moments on the hallux, and allowing the hallux to move from a more flexed starting position. The design also reduces the bending moments across the metatarso-phalangeal joints by stiffening the shoe. The X-line DJD has a lift to allow easier terminal stance propulsion over the painful joint - we recommend fitting this device into a spacious shoe. These unique features improve the mechanics around the 1st joint, allowing a more comfortable progress for the patient. The DJD also has a durable, anti-bacterial top cover and the supporting plastic base-shell offers structural rigidity for an effective condition-specific device. wedge kit compatible decelerate stabilise accelerate LEXJ-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERU4569 LEXJ-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERU4570 LEXJ-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERU4571 LEXJ-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERU4572 LEXJ-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERU4573 contoured www.baileyinstruments.co.uk

line TPD Condition Specific INSOLES X-Line TPD Tibialis Posterior Dysfunction, or moderate/ severe hyperpronation is a potentially crippling pathology, and presents a challenge in the management of foot and ankle pain. Quick and effective treatment is essential in offering symptom relief and functional support. The X-Line TPD has been specifically designed to be the first line of defence against this potentially debilitating condition. The deep seat offers comfortable, and reassuring support, with the plastic shell providing essential rigidity. A sagittally modified medial skive is another feature designed to combat foot hyperpronation. LEXT-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERU3324 LEXT-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERU3325 LEXT-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERU3326 LEXT-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERU3327 LEXT-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERU3328 In managing Tibialis Posterior Dysfunction, the greatest orthotic demand is immediacy. Waiting for a custom made device is not an option. This device is ideal for stage 1 and stage 2a tibialis posterior dysfunction. decelerate stabilise accelerate high enhanced arch profile extra deep The shoe choice is critical to get the TPD to work effectively. If the tibialis posterior is painful, get the patient to buy some motion control running trainers to fit the X-line TPD. The benefits will be instantaneous. wedge kit compatible

Condition Specific INSOLES line AT Ensure the correct shoe is selected to optimize this device s effect. A stable lace-up shoe with a small is ideal. The X-Line AT can be used in conjunction with trainers. The Achilles tendon is the thickest human tendon, and is one of few tendons in biology that operate near their ultimate tensile stress. This high strain occurs when we run. The Achilles tendon helps control forward progression of the leg over the foot, and is critical in initiating lift in both walking and running. decelerate stabilise accelerate The Achilles Tendonopathy insole is designed to help control forward progress of the leg, with a specially contoured midfoot support and an integrated, pitched hindfoot raise to aid lift during the driving phase of gait. raise hind-foot rocker LEXAT-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERP3458 LEXAT-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERP3459 LEXAT-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERP3460 LEXAT-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERP3461 LEXAT-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERP3462 wedge kit compatible www.baileyinstruments.co.uk

line PF Condition Specific INSOLES The plantar fascia is a structure that bridges the arch of the foot linking the to the toe joints (MTP joints). These joints, especially the big toe (hallux), are used in conjunction with the plantar fascia to store and release energy using the windlass effect described by Hicks famous paper of 1951. The main attachment point for the plantar fascia is the medial process of the plantar tubercle of the calcaneus. It is here that pain is experienced in plantar fasciitis. The Plantar Fasciitis insole is designed to give pain relief and aid healing of the plantar fascia. As the plantar fascia is loaded during the drive phase of gait, a dell to the 1st MTP joint helps an efficient windlass effect while the arch is protected from dropping excessively during midstance to prevent over strain of the fascia. Finally a dell is positioned perfectly over the medial process of the calcaneal plantar tubercle to prevent pressure and irritation of the thickening of the fascial attachment point. A combination combined to provide relief and comfort instantly. decelerate stabilise accelerate LEXPF-A Small 3-5 36-38 ERP3454 LEXPF-B Medium 6-8 40-42 ERP3453 LEXPF-C Large 9-11 43-46 ERP3455 LEXPF-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 ERP3456 LEXPF-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 ERP3457 shock dot grind The first insole with a correctly placed dell for the medial calcaneal tubercle. 13 line TPD50 Condition Specific Fit the TPD50 to a stable shoe. If you can twist the shoe, it has a lack of torsional stability so the insole won t be as effective. If fitting to a trainer, ensure it has good motion control. INSOLES Our TPD orthotic has proved to be a very successful device in the management of Tibialis Posterior Dysfunction and other conditions such as Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome. The TPD50 boasts the same mechanical features but without the reinforcing plastic wrap. This reduces the shore rating making the TPD50 more comfortable for those patients unable to tolerate the firmer TPD insole. decelerate stabilise accelerate Code Size UK EU LEXT50-A Small 3-5 36-38 LEXT50-B Medium 6-8 40-42 LEXT50-C Large 9-11 43-46 LEXT50-D Extra Large 12-14 47-49 LEXT50-E Extra, Extra Large 15-16 50-51 deep Enhanced arch profile wedge kit compatible www.baileyinstruments.co.uk

PediPod Pedipod insoles are uniquely designed to help children develop a healthy foot and body posture as they grow. The development of poor posture while growing potentially disturbs normal walking, running and standing. This can lead to recurrent back, knee and foot pain as an adult, often resulting in a lifetime of treatment. decelerate stabilise accelerate With its extra deep cup, arch cradle and unique sagittal skive, the stress and strains on developing bones and muscles are changed to stimulate a more healthy posture. 15 line Vector The customisable orthotic system Our modular system brings all the advantages of custom foot orthoses into your clinic without the need for casting or waiting. Each Vectorthotic pack contains a polypropylene composite shell, top covers and a range of clip-in rearfoot and forefoot posts. Customise the shell to your patient s requirements by clipping in the appropriate post to invert the rearfoot, support the forefoot with a varus, valgus or no post as you see fit. It takes seconds. Decide if you want to use the top cover, which can then be cut to the required length. Other additions such as lifts or extension postings can easily be added. Vectorthotic is totally customisable. Being an injection moulded span device its strength lies in the integrity of the design and durability of the shell. Vectorthotic - a true alternative to custom devices.
