The school has been very busy with assessment and the completion of work units. An important reminder to Parents that we are holding our Parent-Teacher interviews next Tuesday, 27/3/18, from 3.15pm. It is vital that every child s Parents/Guardians arrange an interview with their child s class Teacher to discuss progress and any concerns. If you are unable to attend next Tuesday, please contact your child s Teacher and arrange another day for an interview. Uniform Survey The Uniform Committee has forwarded a digital survey for Parents to please comment on our current uniform. There are only four questions to the survey (including comment boxes). Please remember that there are no plans to change the entire uniform unless there is an overwhelming majority of Parents who wished to do so. We are instead enquiring whether Parents are satisfied with the uniform and if there are any good ideas, that Parents may suggest for discussion. The Committee is very aware of the financial cost of any big changes to the uniform. Please click here to complete the Uniform Survey Kindergarten Survey The Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office is considering offering Kindergarten services to various schools in the Diocese. St Mary s School is one of the Diocesan schools that has been earmarked for the provision of a Kindergarten in the near future. We ask that all Parents please reply to the short survey at your earliest convenience. Please click here to complete the Kindergarten Survey Congratulations I wish to congratulate Stuart and Laura Scudamore on the safe arrival of their twin daughters, Hannah and Emily born on 8 th March. May god bless them all and keep them safe. God Bless, Brett Pollard FROM THE PRINCIPAL Quote of the Week: People who think they know everything are a great annoyance To those of us who do. World Record Attempt St Mary s are participating in creating the World s Longest Prayer Chain record attempt which is taking place whilst the Commonwealth Games are on the. This is a youth-led idea with support from various Christian Churches. The current record is set at 160km. This week all students and members of our community will be writing or drawing a prayer of their choice. This may be praying for an athlete, person or a prayer of thanks. These prayer chains will then be sent to the Gold Coast where they will be put together and added to other prayer chains. Students who are watching the Commonwealth Games or in fact attending may see these and the world record attempt! Portfolios Next Tuesday during Parent/Teacher interviews portfolios will be used and then sent home with Parents sent home. We ask that you take the time to look through these with your child and celebrate all of their successes of the term. Portfolios also provide a great platform for future goal setting. Parent/Teacher Interviews Parent and Teacher interviews are scheduled for Tuesday 27 th March from 3.15pm. Interview sheets have been put outside all classroom doors. Please make a time to discuss your child s progress for the year thus far. These interviews also provide a wonderful platform to set some goals for your child for the remainder of the year. Winter Uniform Due to warm weather, it is hard to predict when the transition into winter uniform will occur. We ask all students to return in Term 2 in their summer uniform. A date for transition will be given after the holiday period. Warm blessings, Karra Nosworthy APRE Karra.nosworthy@twb.catholic.edu.au
LIBRARY CORNER This week is returns week; please return all books on Friday for Prep to Yr. 5. Please keep an item if you are still reading it and return first thing on Monday. Children may also renew the item during class library time next week. Holiday borrowing will take place for Year 2+ next week but all books must be returned or brought in for renewal before students may borrow. This simply means we can keep on top of overdue books and lost books. Please e-mail Emma Petrie at goondiwindilib@twb.catholic.edu.au if you have any queries or concerns about the library and/or borrowing of books. POSITIVE EDUCATION Active Constructive Responding This week we shift our attention to Active Constructive Responding or A.C.R for short. This is the only conversation style which builds healthy relationships (actively listening and positively responding to good news being shared with you). A.C. R. can be thought of amplifying someone else s emotions around a good news event. To amplify you should: Listen enthusiastically Make eye contact Use positive gestures so they feel valued Using A.C R gives them an opportunity to relive their positive emotions while telling you their story. If you don t know how to respond, just say, Tell me more. This will create further positive feelings. Just to reiterate, A.C.R is a great way to build relationships. In a future links article, I will discuss other ways of responding which are not effective ways to build relationships. If you re struggling here are some ideas: face washes with a cake of soap, photo frames, hand creams with a washer, gloves or scarves for winter, tea towels, candles just to name a few.
