No other ingredients were used other than the air whipped into the batter. By the mid 1800's, Pound cake recipes started to add liquids and in the 1900's baking powder was added to the recipes and although butter, eggs, flour and sugar are still used, the proportions have been adjusted to make the cake less heavy. The Pound Cake is subtle, balanced and robust. The texture is spongy but not flaky. It is moist without having the uncooked pudding-like quality. SCHOOL SCULPTURE COMPETITION This year we would like to invite our local school to take part in our Pavilion Sculpture. As we have become a throwaway society we would like to see more re purposing and recycling, so this year we are asking the schools to repurpose/recycle an item to make a garden feature. This will be in indoor display which we are going to place throughout the Pavilion.
