James-Wintjen was 0.26 of a second off from an ECAC qualifying time in the 60-meter dash by running it in eight seconds flat. Her time is second all-time in Bucknell history. HONORABLE MENTION PERFORMANCES LAST WEEK DANTE MARSHALL, NAVY Jr., Hermitage, Pa. Marshall posted an IC4A qualifying mark in the triple jump by jumping 14.32 meters. PAUL HARRIS, NAVY Jr., Woodbury, Minn. Harris broke a school record and qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 800-meter event by a little over four seconds with a time of 1:50.71. RITA SANTIBANEZ, COLGATE So., Salem, Ore. Santibanez broke her own school record in the shot put and missed qualifying for the ECAC Championships by 0.09 of a meter. The only squads that will compete again in the 2006 calendar year will be American and Navy women s teams and Holy Cross. All other teams will return to competition at the beginning of January. PRESEASON PREDICTIONS Last week, the two Patriot League teams that have the most Patriot League titles were selected to claim another championship in the preseason polls. For the women, defending champion Bucknell was selected to win its sixth Patriot League Championship in a row, while in the men s poll, Army was selected to repeat as Patriot League Champion. POSTSEASON PROMISE Many Patriot League student-athletes were off to a roaring start in their opening weekend. Eleven individuals and three relay teams qualified for the ECAC/IC4A Championships in March. American, Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette and Navy all had qualifiers last weekend. KEEP IN MIND The Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships will be Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18 at Army s Gillis Field House. TEAM NOTEBOOKS AMERICAN men opened its season at the Navy Invitational last weekend. Steve Hallinan, Brian McCabe and Brendan Fennell took first, second and third in the 3K. Fennell also anchored the victorious DMR squad. Carlos Jamieson grabbed first in the 5000-meter. The women will compete for the first time this season next week at Navy. ARMY does not open this season s campaign until January when the Black Knights compete at the Carleton Crowell Open. BUCKNELL competed at the Bison Open to kick off its year with Melanie Buczko, Marjorie Grap and Nina Reinhardt all grabbing firstplace finishes for the women. Qualifying for the ECAC Championships was weight-thrower Grap and Christa Sawko in the one-mile run. Tyler Hoffman qualified for the IC4A Championships in the weight throw, while Kyle Anthony also qualified in the long and triple jump events. COLGATE traveled to Ithaca, N.Y. for the Cornell Relays. Emmett Weatherford took seventh place in the 3,000-meter event, while Sean Field also grabbed a seventh-place finish in the weight throw. The distance medley relay team of Kristen Kraly, Ashley Niness, Nicole Christoforo and Liz Crowley garnered a victory and an ECAC qualifying time. Kerilyn Anderson came in second in the long jump, while Lynn Barowski placed right behind her in third. LAFAYETTE hosted the Lafayette Invitational. Kristen Kalinowski won the high jump with a 5 5 jump, while Emily Cholak took first in the long jump and triple jump. Vanessa Youngs won the 60-yard dash and took fifth in the 220-yard dash. For the men, Ever Ruiz, Bradley Williams, Adam Ballester and Rob Blum took first-place in the 4x440-yard relay. Tyler Jones threw an IC4A Qualifying mark in the shot put. LEHIGH does not open its season until Jan. 12 when the Mountain Hawks travel to New York for the Gotham Cup. NAVY men hosted the Navy Invitational. Paul Harris broke a school record in the 800-meter and also qualified for the IC4A Championship. Dante Marshall won the triple jump with an IC4A qualfiying mark. The 4x400-meter relay team and DMR squad will also be heading to IC4As with their respective marks.
