Lawrence North Student-Athletes of the Week Kyle Harris, Grace Dean, and Tyler Majors Track & Field The LN track & field team has three athletes who distinguished themselves at the MIC championships last week. Senior Kyle Harris was a double winner, taking both the 800m and 1600m runs. Sophomore Grace Dean took the 1600m run with a last lap pass for the win. And junior Tyler Majors came from behind to win the shot put on his last throw. Congrats Kyle, Grace, and Tyler the LN student-athletes of the week!

Baseball: The Wildcats (12-8, 6-4 MIC) got back on track last week with 3 wins. The team picked up a couple of MIC wins over the Pike by the score of 13-3 & 5-0. In game one, Garrett Burhenn had a great day at the plate, going 3-4 with 4 RBI. Sam Paddock picked up the win. In game two, Adam Quigley and Bryce Dickerson led the team with 2 hits apiece. Burhenn, Dylan Scheid, and Maalik Houston combined to pitch a one-hit shutout of the Red Devils. On Saturday, the Cats won their first round game in the Marion County tournament against Franklin Central, 4-3. Paddock got the pitching win while Burhenn went 3-4 at the plate and picked up the save. The team has a busy week, with a second round Marion County game against Southport on Monday night. Two big games against LC follow on Tuesday and Wednesday. Should the team win on Monday night, they will play in the Marion County semi-finals later this week. Let s hope for no more rain! Senior night is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10 th. Players will be announced before the game at 5:20pm. Not only will the dads be grilling up burgers, but the team will be collecting items for the LN food pantry. Fans are encouraged to bring donations and cheer on the Wildcats to victory over the Bears! Pictures by LN sports photographer Jared Rigdon.

Drew Conrad was low man for the Cats with a 43. This week s matches include Heritage Christian at Winding Ridge on Monday, Ritter at Eagle Creek on Tuesday, Ben Davis at South Grove on Wednesday, and then back at Winding Ridge for Roncalli/Pike.

Softball: The Wildcats (7-8, 4-1 MIC) beat Westfield 7-5 and Pike 9-2 early in the week. Katie Demas went 3-4 and Taylor Erschen pitched a complete game in the win over Westfield. In the Pike game, the Cats banged out 10 hits. Leading the way was Maddie Howe, going 3-3 with 2 RBI, Erschen went 3-4, and Meredith Rudich, who went 2-4 with 3 RBI. Leah Richards picked up the pitching win. In the first round of the Marion County tournament, the Cats ran into a hot Decatur Central team and wound up on the wrong side of a 12-0 game. The team will play at home against Brownsburg on Monday, on the road against LC on Tuesday, at Zionsville on Thursday, and then back home for games against Mt. Vernon on Friday and Western Boone on Saturday. Saturday s game will include an effort to help the LN food pantry. Please bring cans and boxed food items on Saturday!

Tennis: The tennis team lost two hard fought matches at the start of the week in brutal weather conditions, first to Heritage Christian 2-3 and then to HSE, 1-4. Lawrence North Athletics Awarded Sportsmanship Award for 2016-2017 Lawrence North High School received the Crossroads Officials Association Sportsmanship Award for 2016-2017 at their annual awards banquet last week. Mr. Penrose and Mr. Zeller accepted the award on behalf of everyone associated with LN athletics. This is a reflection of the outstanding character of our coaches, athletes, fans, administrators, and event workers. As the COA President put it, this recognition is really a reflection of the entire Lawrence North school community. This is the first time that Lawrence North has received the award, and it also marked the first time a Marion County school received the honor since Perry Meridian in 2004. "Achieving Excellence, Building Character, Serving Others."
