NCGA Junior Tour Membership Information and Application Membership Information In order to compete on the NCGA Junior Tour, you must become a member. Membership requires that the attached forms be completed, signed by you and your parents, and returned to the NCGA offices with the proper fees enclosed. Your membership is valid from January 1 to December 31 and allows entry for any NCGA Junior Tour event during that time period. If you are already a member of the NCGA or at least one of your parents is a member, the fee is $50.00. If you are not a member and neither of your parents is a member, the fee is $75.00. If you are not a member of the NCGA, your fee will automatically make you a member of the NCGA. This means that your second year of membership in the Junior Tour and any succeeding years will be $50.00. By becoming a member of the NCGA, you receive the following benefits: An official NCGA/USGA Handicap Index Discounts at Poppy Hills and Poppy Ridge Free golf lessons / clinics with certified teaching professionals Member only outings Receive the NCGA s award winning magazine, NCGA Golf. For more information on member benefits, see http://www.ncga.org/about-ncga/memberbenefits/. To play on the NCGA Junior Tour, you must be at least 12 years of age. You can play until you start college full time or turn 19, whichever comes first. Players are encouraged to post all scores in order to establish a valid USGA Handicap Index as soon as possible. Starting in the fall of 2008, players will be allowed to play in a maximum of three (3) events before being required to have a handicap index. California Residency is not required to participate or to become a member. If you are 11-years old, you may join the Tour now and start playing when you turn 12.
Tournament Entry Entry fees for Junior Tour events are $60.00 per tournament. Entry fees cover green fees, range balls and lunch both days. Being a tour member does not guarantee you will get into an event. Entries will be on a first-come, first-in basis within a specific division. Players who win an NCGA Junior Event will be given first preference into future events for the remainder of the year. If a future event is already full, previous event winners will be placed at the head of the waiting list, based on the date of the event that they won. Maximum field size for each event will be 100 to 120, although some events will have more restricted fields based on availability. Fall 2008 events Starting in the fall of 2008, players will be grouped by handicap index rather than age. Players are expected to post scores for all rounds played as required by the rules of handicapping established by the USGA. There will be an open division at most, if not all, events for players who have not yet established a handicap index. Players in this division will be required to be members of the Tour. All open division scores from Tour events will be posted to expedite establishing a handicap index. Players can play in a maximum of three open events. Online registration for fall events will begin on July 1, 2008. Paper registration will also be available, but not be postmarked before July 1, 2008. Players who intend to play in the fall should make sure that they have joined the Tour before July 1 st so that they may secure a place in the field immediately upon entry. Players should also seek to establish a handicap before July 1 st as there will be more spots available for the handicap divisions than the open division. Handicap Divisions Players will be grouped by handicap. Boys will be divided into three (3) flights. Girls will be divided into two (2) flights. Tournaments will be 36-hole stroke play events. The overall champion will be the player who posts the lowest gross score regardless of which flight that player is in. Divisions will be as follows: Boys Gold <9.5 index Boys Silver 9.5 to 18.4 index Boys Bronze > 18.4 index Girls Gold < 15.5 index Girls Silver >15.4 index
The Gold Flights will have two age groups, 12-15 and 16-18. In the other flights, all players will compete together. The Silver and Bronze Flights will have separate net and gross competitions. In the membership packet you will find a brochure on the procedures of score posting. Please read it and follow the rules to ensure that your handicap is correct. Players who win a particular division will be moved to the next higher division for the remainder of the year. This is intended to reward players whose game might be improving at a rate faster than their handicap can update to reflect their new ability. Policies and Procedures In order to play on the NCGA Junior Tour, you and your parents must agree to abide by the policies and procedures set forth. These policies and procedures can be found on the NCGA website at http://www.ncga.org/juniors/juniortour/rules/. Proof of Age The NCGA does not require proof of age with this application. If there is any question regarding the age of a participant, the NCGA can require that such proof of age be presented before the participant will be allowed to play in any further events. If a player is found to have misrepresented their age to the NCGA in this application or at any later time, their membership in the Tour will be forfeited and they will be denied any further opportunity to play in an NCGA Junior Tour event. The NCGA reserves the right to also deny entry in other NCGA events per its standard policies and procedures. If a player is requested to present a proof of age, the following documents will be acceptable: Valid State Issued Driver s License or ID Birth Certificate Passport Alien Registration Card Tee Times and other Player Information Tournaments are 36-holes in length and scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Every attempt will be made to schedule the events so that players and parents can travel early on Saturday to the site and return home on Sunday in order to limit hotel stays to one night. Tee time, directions, hotel information and other things you will need to know will be posted at www.ncga.org/juniors/juniortour before the event. Players will be notified via e-mail when this information has been posted. Name and Likeness By joining the NCGA Junior Tour, you grant the NCGA and its affiliates the permanent rights to use your name and likeness for publicity and promotional use. Scholarship Entry The NCGA Junior Tour will provide support for both the membership and tournament entry fees for players who can demonstrate a significant financial need. Please contact the NCGA Junior Tour if you need financial assistance.
