TEE TIME TOPICS January, 2019

President s Report Our biggest challenge in December was dealing with a very high level of rain and the related drainage issues. The Board believes course drainage is a top priority for KRC. Solutions, however, are not simple nor are they low cost. The Greens Committee and I reviewed a comprehensive plan that we believe can be implemented over time. We will see a modified version of that plan in early January. The way it stands right now, the proposed solution is complicated and not very practical from a financial standpoint. This is not an easy problem to solve although we re not giving up. As mentioned in past TTT articles we ll keep the membership posted. As we close out 2018, the Board is confident that we will be on budget for the year. The numbers are still being processed to close out the year. They will have to be reviewed by our outside accounting firm before we have a final financial statement for the 2018. Deb Richardson has done an excellent job with our financials. Activities during December were excellent, starting with our Christmas dinners and ending with our New Year s Eve celebration - both sellouts. Anne Klein continues to do a great job with KRC events. We ve also been very busy hosting member and non-member Holiday parties, office parties, dinners, birthday and anniversary celebrations and our normal weekly activities. The additional revenue has been good for the Club and we expect this type of clubhouse activity to continue to grow - especially during the times KRC is not busy with member events and dining. A point of clarification on a recent Rule change passed by the KRC Board: Guests of our members are always welcome. One qualification though; guests that attend one or more of our weekly planned Club Activities such as Bridge, MahJong, Poker, etc. are limited to once per month. Our rationale is to encourage these weekly guests to join KRC, if not as a full Golf member, then as a Social member. The cost to join KRC is very competitive and it s only reasonable that frequent activities guests not have unfair access to Club benefits. We re sure the KRC membership understands and supports this new Rule. Other alternatives were deemed impractical. Our Membership & Marketing Committee continues to do a great job as well. We gained four new members and a Corporate Membership in December. This is following a stellar November when we welcomed 18 members to KRC. Watch for upcoming activities that are focused on improving KRC awareness to potential new members. Gary Alvord and his team have several being planned for January. And 1

remember, you the membership, are our best salespeople. Almost every new member comes to KRC though contact with current members and friends! The golf course has recovered from the recent rains and is seeing a lot of play. The sand traps have settled (hopefully you haven t noticed through experience) and the greens are in as good of shape as ever. Ed and his team (under Blake s and Tony s leadership) have improved the non-golfing areas and the feedback on that has been very good. We want the course and grounds to be attractive to people passing by the Club. It s a good way to demonstrate we re proud of KRC and to attract new members. Please read Marty Hicks and Bill MacMillan s articles in this month s TTT for details around our Building & Maintenance activities and upcoming golf events. Please take advantage of as many of our golf events/tournaments as possible. There s something for everyone on the schedule. From a perspective Lori and I continue to make improvements. We are aware that consistency is a key here and are always looking for ways to make our dining and food/beverage related experiences excellent for the membership. Watch for changes in how the House is managed in light of Jack s recent departure. Looking forward, here are a few January highlights from an events standpoint: We ve scheduled a Prohibition /Dance for the th, another Nine, Wine & Dine on the 18th, and a Jazz Brunch on the 20th. Signup sheets are posted for Line-dancing classes and Yoga. These are all in addition to our regularly scheduled activities. Please make your reservations early. The Club is here for your enjoyment and benefit. In closing, on behalf of the KRC Board of Directors, I would like to wish everyone and their family, loved ones and friends, a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year! Respectfully, Scott Mitchell, President KRC 2

KRC Board of Directors Update for 2019 The Board of Directors consists of 9 members. Each year 3 Board members leave the Board and 3 members join the Board. Marty Hicks, Blake Rees and Scott Mitchell the Club President will be leaving the Board. Gary Alvord, Anne Klein, Bill MacMillan. Tony Niewijk, Debra Richardson and Lori Waggoner will continue to serve on the Board. The Nominating Committee for the 2019 elections has been formed. This 5-person Committee is made up of past Presidents: Mike Gillie, Gary Duncan and Terry Schaefer along with two at-large representatives: Fran Barford and Jack Lowry. The Nominating Committee will submit the slate of candidates for the Board of Director openings to the Corporate Secretary by January 18, 2019. The deadline for submitting nominations to the Corporate Secretary is February 15, 2019. Our By-Laws state, In addition to those nominated by the Nominating Committee, any two or more Shareholders may submit the name or names of any qualified member or members for the office of Director, provided notification thereof is received by the Secretary of the Corporation by February 15, 2019 immediately prior to the Annual Meeting. Gary Alvord is the Corporate Secretary of the Key Royale Club, Inc. The Key Royale Club, Inc. Annual Meeting will be on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. Respectfully, KRC Board of Directors Like the Club on Facebook Today!! facebook.com/keyroyaleclub 3

Membership & Marketing Committee Be sure to invite a guest or guests and sign up for our member/prospective member guest golf event. The first event will be January 17, 2019. We are asking you to invite friends, and new and old neighbors who you think might enjoy being part of our terrific club. They will enjoy a round of golf and a drink on us. Guests will have the opportunity not only to play our course, but will get to meet some of our members, and find out what a fun place Key Royale really is. A signup sheet is available at the club. If we exceed 36 golfers, we will schedule another event soon. If you have questions, please call or email Gary Alvord at 515.240.7673, gpal1969@msn.com. Thank you for your help in spreading the good word about our wonderful club! Gary Alvord, Club Director and Membership Committee Chair Greens Report The patience of the membership is appreciated as we have dealt with the excessive rainfall that was experienced a couple of weeks ago. The golf course has recovered nicely and should continue to show improvement. We hope everyone has noticed the efforts that had been made to clean up the landscaped areas throughout the course. Hopefully, these upgrades positively impact the overall aesthetic appearance of our golf course. We continue to search for an affordable and yet effective way to address the drainage issues associated with having a golf course on an island with a high-water table. As we strive to address these issues we will keep you advised on steps being taken. Blake Ress, Greens Committee Co-Chairman 4

Building and Maintenance Happy New Year! Not a great deal to report this month. We will be installing an ipad on the wall behind the New Members board to operate our new Sonos music system. The ipad and mounting equipment were donated by members Jim and Patty Hug THANKS SO MUCH! As previously reported, Sonos allows us to connect to a wide variety of internet-sourced music (such as Pandora and Spotify) via the Sonos app on the ipad. If you are interested in learning more, please let me know. Every month there are various maintenance and repair items that are addressed. Just a reminder that not everything we spend your money on is visible. Among other behind the scenes items, this past month we completed the annual kitchen fire suppression system maintenance/repairs and re-certification a $1,395 price tag, but a Code requirement. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments on these or any other B&M issues/projects. I would be happy to hear from you! --Marty Hicks, Chair Building & Maintenance Golf Committee With the holidays past us, it is now time to focus on all of the golf events coming up in the next few months at your Key Royale Club. Please do sign up in advance. Notices have been up and will be sent when sign up sheets are posted. What better way to get ready for these events/tournaments than a lesson right at Key Royale with our golf pro, Ken Butler. Just call Ken at 941-524-9341. Members that have had lessons with Ken in the short time he had been our teaching professional have come away very satisfied. And, if you are just returning for the season take a look at the new merchandise in the Pro Shop. We think you will be impressed with the styles and quality. Bill MacMillan, Golf Committee Chair Mad Hatter Tea Party Ladies of Key Royale are cordially invited to follow Alice down the Rabbit Hole on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from -2 for The Mad Hatter s Tea and Very Merry Unbirthday Party. Wear your maddest hat and join us for tea in Wonderland. Bring an unbirthday gift from the Dollar store to participate in the gift exchange. Presents not to exceed the $1 limit. Sign up at the Club. Events The New Year s Eve party was a sold-out event. Patty and the club staff did an excellent job of serving hot meals to each table. There were great comments on food, party, & DJ Jay Gordon.
