On May 8th the Griffin Golf Team participated in the Kendrick Cup at the Toms River Country Club, finishing second, behind Toms River North. EMU plays in the Continental Volleyball Conference and was ranked as high as #9 in the nation this season among Division 3 Men s Volleyball programs. Alex was selected to play in the senior all star game for the shore conference. The Boys Volleyball team are Shore Conference A Central Champions with a record of 11-1 in their division, 17-4 overall. There are only 3 divisions in Shore Conference Boys Volleyball, and the Griffins are proudly 1 of 3 champions, along with CBA and Southern Regional. Congratulations to the Boys Tennis team who won The Ocean County Tennis Championship by one point over Toms River North. The boys had a fantastic Sunday after falling behind on Saturday. At third doubles, Jack Schneider and Mark Finnegan finished second. Both the second doubles team of Dominick Tarabocchia and Carson Barry, and the first doubles team of Jacob Cioffi and Luke Martin finished in fifth place. Both teams got key victories on Sunday. Third singles player Sean Finnegan rallied from being down 5-1 in the third set to beat Toms River North in the semifinals, and finished second. Second singles player Daniel Quigley overcame a significant injury to win his third consecutive Ocean County title at second singles, and your Ocean County Champion at first singles is junior Sean Boyle A complete and total team victory by every player, and a great job by the whole coaching staff. Congratulations to the Girls Track and Field Team for their title of B-South Champions! The girls Track & Field team competed at the Shore Conference Championships at Neptune High School. Senior Alyssa Wilson had a big day, winning the shot put for the third straight year, and finishing the career sweep of the discus, winning the event for the fourth year in a row. Alyssa also broke the Shore Conference Championship record in both events. Katherine Ullmann continued her stellar senior season with a second place finish in the high jump. Junior Alexandra Marko rounded out the medal winners with a sixth place finish in the 800. Other strong performances were put in by juniors Julia Kelly (7th in the pole vault), and Riley Underwood (8th in the 100 hurdles). Submitted by Coach Ken Oliver On May 6th, Alyssa Wilson [pictured left] set a new NJ state record in the discus, 182'0", at the Rowan University Girls HS Invitational. Alyssa also holds the National record for the shot put (57'1.5" AT THE OCEAN COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS ON MAY 15) and is ranked first in the World-U20 in the shot put. Alyssa Wilson is also the -Ocean County Champion in the Shot Put & Discus -Shore Conference Champion in the Shot Put & Discus -NJSIAA Non-Public "A" Sectional Champion in the Shot Put & Discus The girls Track & Field team competed at the New Jersey Catholic Track Conference Frosh/Soph Championships. The sophomore girls won the team championship, scoring 87 points. Caitlin Lambe led the sophomore team as she won three gold medals and scored 30 points. Caitlin took first place in the 100 hurdles, the high jump, and the long jump. The sophomore throwers combined to score 33 points with the trio of Jazmin Brown, MaryJo Kelly, Adrianna Scianna placing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively in the Javelin. Jade Caporusso placed second in the shot put, and Jazmin finished third in the discus, with Emily Cioffi placing sixth. Olivia Haye placed 3rd in both the long jump and the 200, and 4th in the 100, and Angela Saliola placed third in the 400, and fifth in the long jump. In the freshmen Catholic Conference Championship, Alexa Moore won the gold medal in the pole vault with her jump of 9 feet, and placed fourth in the 100 hurdles. Other medal winners for the freshmen included Isabella Calavano (4th in the discus), Madison Brogan (5th in the 800), and Emma Newman (6th in the 100 hurdles). Senior Riana Ramos has earned the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award. Congratulations! Congratulations to Donovan Catholic senior lacrosse player, Peter Schlendorf [right] for being named All-B South, 2nd team and All-Shore Conference, Honorable Mention. Peter will complete his scholastic lacrosse career by joining the best senior lacrosse players in the Shore on June 15th in the SCLCA North/South Senior All-Star Game. He finished his senior season with 36 goals and 17 assists and has compiled over 250 points throughout his tenure in the Blue and White of Donovan. A hearty job well done goes out to all of Donovan's college lacrosse-bound senior boys, Hunter Calvetto (Georgian Court University), Hunter MacPherson (Susquehanna University) and Peter Schlendorf (Montclair State University).
