Name Chisholm Elementary Lady Cats & Kitty Cats Application 5 th Grade Girls are eligible Director: Kimberly Scherder Assistant Coach: Casey Dahl 2018-2019 School Year Attached information due by Friday, August 24th, 2018. NO Late applications will be accepted! First Practice is Tuesday August 28 th from 2:15-5:15. Dates & times are subject to change throughout the year as we prepare for upcoming events and performances, Please look at the monthly calendar. 1

Rules and Regulations (Keep for your reference, you will need to refer to this throughout the year) Email- Kscherder1@gmail.com Eligibility and Attendance Practice will be held once a week on Tuesdays from 2:15 5:15pm. Times are subject to change throughout the year as we prepare for various shows and events. Students who are in 5 th grade are eligible to participate in the Lady Cat performance team. Attendance to weekly rehearsals and performances are mandatory. Absences from performances and weekly rehearsals must be approved by Kimberly Scherder and/or an administrator. Continuously missed practices and/or performances will result in dismissal from the team. Extraordinary circumstances will be taken into consideration. All dancers are required to attend all practices. Any absences must include parent or doctor note. Cost There is no fee for this program. Funding for this dance program is provided by Chisholm Elementary PTA, fundraising by Lady Cats and families, donations and grants. Your participation in the fundraisers sponsored by PTA will benefit not only our school but our dance program as well. I strongly encourage you to participate in our school fundraisers. Lady Cat night at McKenna s will take place twice in the school year and are mandatory for you to attend or send someone on your behalf. This is a huge fundraiser for the team and because there is no cost for this program, participating with fundraising is mandatory. Performances Calendars will be sent home at the beginning of each month with arrival times and scheduled performances. Performances may include but are not limited to Chisholm Grandparents Day, NSB High/ Middle School s Halloween, Christmas, & Spring Shows, Chisholm in-school performances, NSB Christmas parade, Black Heritage Babe James performance, Relay for Life, NSB High Homecoming Pep Rally, Port Orange Family Days and more. Remember, 5 th graders and returning girls are on the performance team. We don t have enough volunteers and or costume inventory for a team much larger than 20. Please be understanding! Make-up All performance team dancers will wear matching brown eye shadow, mascara, blush, and red lipstick. This is basic theatrical and performing make-up that enhances the dancer s appearance under heavy lighting when on stage. Make-up can be found at any drug store, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, or Wal-Mart. The darker the better, and eyeliner or false lashes are welcome. No jewelry or nail polish is allowed to be worn during performances. Hair & Nails Hair needs to be slicked back off the face and with a pony tail then a donut (see next page) is placed to secure the hair around. Secured with another pony tail (rubber band) hair net & a minimum of ten bobby pins in a bun. Do not hesitate to use that hairspray and gel! Lady Cats will not be allowed to perform if hair is not properly secured. No loose pony tails or hair falling down! Nails should be kept clean and short for the health & safety of your teammates when dancing. NO polish visible. 2

Shoes/performance wear Students must have black AND caramel jazz shoes with no laces and caramel convertible (feet can go through) dance tights, NOT PANTYHOSE! Tights need to be caramel in color (flesh toned). Don t wait until the last minute to get these items because it is recital season and they will sell out! Shoes and tights can be purchased at www.dancewearsolutions.com or Dance Depot on US1 in South Daytona. I ve heard Payless also carries dance shoes. Failure to comply with dress code will result in non-participation at that performance or the performance immediately following dress code violation. The uniform will be issued prior to the first performance and girls will get to keep their uniform(s) for the year and return the uniforms at the end of the year after having them dry cleaned. I highly encourage girls to use a quickchange leotard underneath for shows that require multiple costume changes. Girls are not to wear underwear; tights take the place of that undergarment. Weekly Rehearsals Transportation Each dancer needs to promptly have a ride home from rehearsal on Tuesdays. Alternate arrangements need to be made if the dancer will not be riding the bus on practice days. Those in the extended day program will then go to extended day, and anyone who rides or walks will be dismissed after practice. Anyone remaining after practice for any length of time more than twice the entire year will result in dismissal from the team. Practice Dancers must be dressed and ready to go by designated time (2:15pm). All teachers will be made aware that their dancers will go to designated bathrooms at the 2:05 bell to change unless the teacher allows them to change in the classroom bathroom. We will meet in the dance room where girls will put their belongings away in the backpack room. Tardiness needs to be accompanied with a teacher note, and absences will be noted. Demerits will be issued for those that are late or not dressed in practice attire. Girls are required to wear a black leotard or tank top and black shorts and/or spandex to practice in. This uniformity will set forth a good example for Chisholm Lady Cats and enables me to see a less distracting atmosphere when choreographing and cleaning routines. No jeans, no bathing suits, no large t-shirts will be allowed. Sneakers and socks are a must to ensure comfort and safe dancing. Jazz shoes are great! Hair needs to be secured in a ponytail off the face. No jewelry allowed. Demerit system When a dancer doesn t come prepared, is disrespectful to myself, the assistant coach, guest choreographers, and/or team members, a written demerit slip will be given. Demerits can be erased by putting the dance room back in order after practice, cleaning the mirrors, bringing in snacks for team mates, Turns, High Kicks, etc. When a dancer accumulates 4 or more demerits they will not be allowed to perform until those demerits are worked off. 3

Note from the Director, Miss Kim I am Kimberly Scherder, the dancers call me miss Kim and I currently work at Halifax Health hospital in the Emergency Department and this will be formally my first year as the director of the Chisholm Lady Cats dance team. Although this is going to be my first year, I do have experience in many aspects of dance. I started dancing at Miss Peggy s Day School as a Dancerette in the late 90 s under the director Mrs. Dill. I later joined Terri s twirling tornadoes in which I was on that team for over 10 years. The twirling experience showed me many different opportunities, such as leaps, turns, gymnastic tricks, stage presence. I later went to NSB High school and joined the Showdoll s dance team under the director Kelly Conway. While in high school I also was a part of the NSB Color Guard and Participated in their Winter Guard competitions. I have performed in many Christmas parades as well as performed in national, state, and district competitions as a Showdoll/Twirler/Color Guard all over the United States. I plan on using the knowledge from my prior dance background, wanting to give back to the students and spread my love of dance with others. I look forward to teaching proper dance technique, respect, teamwork, showmanship, a variety of dancing styles to my dancers. Most of all, we ll be sure to have an enjoyable time! Please return the following pages (4, 5, & 6) and your paragraph to Miss Kim no later than August 24 th. First practice is Tuesday August 28 th. Do not discard Rules and Regulations. You will use this as a reference throughout the school year! Chisholm Elementary Lady Cat Contract As a member of the Chisholm Elementary Lady Cats, I agree to uphold the following standards and guidelines as set forth by my fellow teammates and myself. I agree to get a drink/use the restroom before rehearsal begins. I understand that once rehearsal is begun I am only to leave for emergency situations. I understand that no talking is allowed during practice. I am only to speak when Miss Kim has given me permission to do so. I understand that I am expected to be on time to every rehearsal, in order to ensure that every rehearsal begins promptly at 2:15pm, dressed appropriately. I understand that I am to be present at every rehearsal unless I am ill or have notified the Miss Kim that I will be absent. I understand that I am to remain attentive at all times during rehearsal or other Lady Cat functions. I understand that I am to do my best at all times to promote and dance to the best of my ability. I understand that I represent my school and the team and that I am to conduct myself in an appropriate manner at all times, in and out of uniform. Students must maintain grades of a C or better in each subject area and conduct of 1 each quarter. I have read and understand all the aforementioned guidelines. I understand that Lady Cats functions on a three strikes you re out policy and after my third infraction I will be asked to leave Lady Cats for the remainder of the year. Student Signature: Date: 4
