Your Guide to School Transport to 2016-2017

Dear Parent/Carer, Welcome to. In this booklet you will find information about all our bus services that transport our students to and from Poynton High School. We appreciate that transport to school is a very important consideration for parents and that is why we have teamed up with Transport Service Solutions to manage all our home to school transport, including services we already subsidise, to keep the cost as low as possible for our students. The timetables, routes, pick-up points and a map of the relevant area are included and also a list of frequently asked questions provided by Transport Service Solutions, who also manage all public and school transport for Cheshire East Council. If your child will be travelling on a bus provided by Transport Service Solutions, they will be your first point of contact and their details are in this section. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask and I hope you find this transport guide useful. We also trust that your child will enjoy their time at and that the transport we provide will help with this. Best regards, Nicki Cooper

Student travel arrangements to and from school are a parental responsibility. If travelling by bus: Your child must always travel with his/her own valid Travel Ticket. Failure to produce the Travel Ticket may result in refusal to use the bus. Your child must travel on the allocated bus indicated on the Travel Ticket and not on any other PHS bus that may stop at the same pick up point. In the event of non-running or lateness of service, ensure there is an agreed contingency plan in place, i.e. sufficient money to cover any alternative bus fare, phone calls home, that your child memorises/notes an emergency phone number, etc. Please make a note of your agreed contingency plan below and ensure that your child knows what the plan is. Our agreed contingency plan: For further information contact Transport Service Solutions: phone: 0300 123 5012 and ask for Transport e-mail: schooltransport@transportservicesolutions.co.uk or visit www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/schooltransport/phs 4

Frequently Asked Questions about School Transport Q: How do I apply for school transport? A: Complete an online school transport application form at: www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/schooltransport or by calling the school transport team on 0300 123 5012. Applications for pupils in years 7-11 can be made at anytime, but please note the information below if you are simply looking to renew your child s transport. Q: How do I renew transport for my child? A: If your child is eligible for assisted transport, received a travel pass in 2015/2016 and will be moving up to the next school year, their details will be automatically renewed for 2016/2017. Travel Tickets will be issued before the start of term, so it is important that you inform us of any change in circumstances or address. Q: Do pupils need to carry their Travel Ticket every day? A: Yes - students must carry their Travel Tickets and be ready to show them to the driver each time the vehicle is boarded. There is no facility to take cash payments on board the buses. Q: How long is a Travel Ticket valid for? A: The Travel Ticket is valid during the period for which payment for travel has been received. New cards will be issued at the start of each payment period - usually at the beginning of each term or half termly. Q: My child won t be travelling on one of the PHS1-6 buses - can they use the Travel Ticket on other buses which call at? A: No, they won t be able to. If your child travels from a location not served by the new services and is eligible for free transport, a pass will be issued in the usual way. If your child is not eligible for free school transport, they will have to pay the fare when they board the bus, preferably with the right amount of money. This keeps the buses running on time. Q: What if the Travel Ticket is no longer required? A: Any Travel Ticket that is no longer required should be returned with a covering letter to Transport Service Solutions, Municipal Buildings, Earle Street, Crewe, CW1 2BJ. Q: Can I pay for a Travel Ticket by Direct Debit? A: TSS is looking to introduce payments by Direct Debit which will provide parents with more flexibility to spread payments over a longer period and work towards offering improved payment options. Q. My child needs to use the After school club bus - how do I book/pay? A. The fare is 2.50 and tickets can be purchased from Student Services. 13

Q: When and for which journeys can the Travel Ticket be used? A: Travel Tickets are valid for a return journey to/from school, Monday to Friday only. Please refer to the information on the reverse side of the Travel Tickets for more conditions of use. The misuse and/or fraudulent use of Travel Tickets is treated seriously and can result in transport being withdrawn and may lead to prosecution. Any of the following may lead to confiscation: Use by anyone other than the named Travel Ticket holder Attempted use for unauthorised journeys Using a damaged or defaced Travel Ticket Confiscated Travel Tickets must be replaced immediately, for which there is a charge of 14. Q: What if the Travel Ticket is lost? A: Please report lost tickets to TSS as soon as possible by phone or e-mail (see contact details below). Q: When will I receive the Travel Ticket? A: For applications received and processed in good time, a Travel Ticket for September will be sent to your home address as soon as possible. Transport Service Solutions aims to issue Travel Tickets within 14 days of receipt of application. Applications made during peak times may be delayed and parents/ carers are ultimately responsible for making any interim travel arrangements. When you receive the Travel Ticket, please ensure that you keep it in a safe place as a charge will be made to replace lost Travel Tickets. Q: Who can I contact if there are problems with the school bus service, or if I have any concerns? A: Transport Service Solutions is committed to providing a high level of service. However, there may be times when your child is experiencing problems with the bus service on which they travel. In the event of a problem arising or if you have any concerns, you can report them to us by: e-mail: schooltransport@transportservicesolutions.co.uk phone: 0300 123 5012 or post: write to us at Transport Service Solutions Municipal Buildings Earle Street Crewe CW1 2BJ We will then investigate the problem and take appropriate action. Any complaints will be investigated and a response will be sent to you within ten working days. 14

Our Transport Code of Behaviour To help everybody travel safely on school buses, please: 1 Be punctual - the transport has a time schedule to keep to in order to get to school on time. 2 Stay safe at pick-up points by keeping away from the road and behaving sensibly whilst waiting for the bus to arrive. 3 Remember your Travel Ticket and show it to the driver each time you board the bus. 4 Notify your parent/carer and Transport Service Solutions if you lose or damage your Travel Ticket so that a new one can be issued - each new ticket costs 14 to replace so please take care of it. 5 Wear a seat belt at all times (where fitted) and remain seated throughout the journey. 6 Do not distract the driver whilst he or she is driving, unless there is an emergency. 7 Be reasonably quiet in the bus and use headphones when listening to music players - excessive noise can distract the driver. 8 Wait in your seat at the end of the journey until the bus has stopped completely. 9 Do not smoke, eat, drink or drop litter in the bus. 10 Keep your bags stored safely away in the designated area. 11 Always follow the instructions of the driver. 12 Be considerate towards everyone and behave sensibly at all times. Remember... Parents/carers are responsible for any damage caused to the bus and will have to pay the operator for the cost of repairs. If you break these rules you may lose your entitlement to transport and your parent/carer will have to make and pay for alternative arrangements to get you to and from school. Thank you
