Jazz is a dynamic and energetic style of dance that is set to current and up- beat pop music. Classes typically begin with a thorough warm- up, barre exercises and flexibility training followed by jazz technique across the room and funky new dance combinations. Jazz technique builds through levels as students progress each year. Each student will have the option to participate in annual jazz exams once they are developed enough in their level. This class is a great way to improve coordination, rhythm, flexibility, muscle control, and overall fitness. Introductory dance concepts will be taught, while placing the child s positive experience as the highest priority. Singing, rhythmic instruments, music, storytelling, free movement, dramatic dance, and some pre- ballet will be just some of the adventures in dance! THURSDAYS CONTINUED Ballet is the foundation for all other forms of dance. This class will focus on alignment and placement of the body, developing fast reflexes, graceful movements, increased flexibility, and heightened endurance while strengthening and toning the muscles. This class will focus on developing the dancers sense of grace, posture, coordination and confidence. Ballet Pre- Pointe Intro will be a level 3/4 ballet Cecchetti. This class will start with level 3 and progress to level 4 Cecchetti; beginner pointe. The dancers will begin en pointe once the strength in their feet, ankles and core are strong enough to support their body. They must also have a strong understanding of proper technique and form. Every dancer is different and they may progress at a different pace. Only the students that have the proper strength will advance to pointe. The others will continue to work on strength exercises and technique. Whether they are en pointe or not, the same exercises are applied. *Note: Dance assessments are not done in one day, it will be an entire dance season s worth of work. When the dance instructor determines that the dancers are strong enough to start en pointe, pointe shoes will be required for the remainder of classes. Intro to Ballet links Little Ballerinas with Ballet while providing a safe environment for your child to explore freedom in movement. We will start to introduce basic dance concepts and terminology. This will provide students with an increased vocabulary while developing strength, grace, posture and flexibility. This class promotes the enjoyment of dance and movement. Cheer is a dynamic and high- energy class that will focus on stamina, patterns, flexibility, jumps and dance routines drawing from various styles of dance including Jazz and Hip Hop.
