Tellus360 NW/N Ireland Trip Sept 2018 With Lally Tours of Galway
Premace Well, you can think of this is the sequel to a few previous Tellus360 Trips.. You ve already met the main characters, seen the first few sets and have definitely caused a good few scenes! This is the part where you come along to see a little bit more and get a little deeper into the plot. Although it really helps if you ve seen the first one, you can still keep up with what s happening on the second one. But it s much more fun to have been on the first go-around!! In general, you can expect the same (maybe slightly faster) pace as previous trips. Looking at the Itinerary, you will notice that there is probably more contrast between each region that we will visit each day. We will cross international borders, and will have to also switch currency to the UK Pound for a few days towards the end. Taking feedback from previous trips, we ve added more time on islands and went another couple steps into the wilderness and away from the city lights. We ve also added a few more locals from the Dates Saturday Sept. 15th to Sunday Sept. 23rd, 2018 - Put it in the diary! This is a Rain or Sun event and will be running whether we have 2 people or 22 people. We ve been talking about this trip for years, and it is 100% happening! Route CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE ROUTE (Or at least the planned route.. ) Itinerary Day 1 (Sat) - Dublin straight across to Galway City. Just like previous trips, we re going to B-Line it straight out of Dublin and across to Galway City in time for some of that fine Saturday afternoons madness and excitement. We ll drop
off the bags at the hotel and get some fresh air out and about the town. You ve been to Galway already so I want to allow you to feel out the City at your own time and pace, but I m sure there will be a few of us chillin in your favorite pub (One guess!) Overnight for one night in Galway City Center. Days 2 & 3 (Sun & Mon) - Galway City to Inishbofin Island. You ve already been to the Aran Islands, so we need to go somewhere different. Boffin is another truly magical place. Although it s not a whole lot larger than Inis Oirr, there are tons more things to see and do. From here we re going to do a hike of the island with a couple local history experts, as well as a half day boat trip to a neighbouring deserted island - Shark Island. To get here we ll be taking a 12 person RIB. All wet-gear, life-jackets etc will be provided so no need to worry about that. You re not going to get a much more exclusive and unique experience than visiting an island (Shark), off an island (Boffin), off an island (Ireland)... Overnight for two nights on Boffin.
Day 4 (Tue) - Off the rock, explore the best of County Mayo. Back on the mainland we ll start working on the Northern part of the trip by edging into County Mayo and Sligo. Often ignored as part of tours of Ireland, only recently have I started getting properly acquainted with the Green and Red of Mayo. Without a doubt this part of Ireland is destined to become hugely popular, but we re going to hit it at the right time. Blanketed in bogs, hills and lakes, Mayo has plenty of little gems. Check out the not-so-little gem of Downpatrick Head and Céide Fields.. Stunning stuff! We re going to try to wrap up the afternoon a little earlier than usual to allow you to enjoy the surrounding grounds and facilities at the night s residence - The Mount Falcon Estate. Overnight near Ballina, Co. Mayo.
Day 5 (Wed) - Head north into the wilderness of Donegal.. This morning we will make our way up through Yeats country of Northern Mayo, Drumcliffe, Sligo and onto Donegal. This part of Ireland boasts some of the finest beaches in the world. We re putting together another seaborne adventure amongst the Sea Cliffs of Slieve League. These are the tallest cliffs in Ireland, reaching in the sky over three times the size of the much more famous Cliffs of Moher. Overnight in Killybegs.
Day 6 (Thur) - Donegal Coast Take our time meandering along on furthest western coastline of Donegal and try to get lost. It s hard enough for the best minds in the world of literature to describe the sheer beauty of this region of Ireland, so I ve absolutely no chance! Word of warning: you may find it a bit difficult to understand the dialect of the people of Donegal So myself and Joe will be on hand to translate as needed! Overnight in a small town close to Northern Irish border, close to Derry. Day 7 (Fri) - Discover the grand City of Derry. Most of the news headlines you would have read and heard about The Troubles in the 1960 s through to 1990 s would have primarily focussed on Derry and Belfast. In my humble opinion, the only way to get an understanding of these times in Ireland is to hit the ground and speak with the experienced local guides there. Thankfully, Derry is a much more peaceful City than its former self so we can walk the actual streets, visit the murals and hear the stories as close to first person as we can. Following the exploration of Derry City, we will start along the most northerly coastline of the Isle of Ireland. Anyone looking to play some golf, this evening will be your best chance! Portrush Golf Club has two links courses and is due to host the Open Championship in 2019.
Overnight near Portrush. Day 8 (Sat) - Early rise, lots to see and do in Belfast City! From Portrush we will visit the Giants Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge and then arrive into Belfast with plenty of time to explore the City. Being the capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast is an impressive City boasting incredible power and history which is outlined by religious and political division. Overnight in Belfast City Centre Day 9 (Sun) - Home time :( Belfast is just a quick 90mins from Dublin Airport. Keep in mind that you can also fly straight of Belfast if easier for you.. Anyone flying out of Dublin that day will be brought straight to the airport that morning, and anyone else staying for any longer will be brought into your accommodation in Dublin City Centre.
