The role of the Simon Fraser Community Council is to make sure people with developmental disabilities, families, community members and service providers across the Simon Fraser Region playa major role in achieving the shared vision of fostering good lives in welcoming communities. On behalf of the Simon Fraser Commun ity Council, I am writing to request your Council proclaim October 2018 as Community Inclusion Month in Port Moody. On October I, 2018, the Province of British Columbia will proclaim October as Commu nity Inclusion Month (formerly known as Community living Month) to more clearly reflect the vision for inclusion across the province. This is the 20th year s.c. is recognizing and celebrating the contributions and potential of people with diverse abilities, and the families, friends, caregivers, volunteers, community groups, employers and communities, like yours, who contribute every day to maki ng sure people have quality of life. The Simon Fraser Community Council works collaboratively with community partners and local ClSC offices across the Simon Fraser Region to support and recognize community inclusion, and to foster full participation in community for people with developmental disabilities. General Matters 3.1 Presentation: Vanessa Woznow and Tracy Green Delegation Request: Vanessa Woznow File: 01-0230-01 Natalie Hill, Assistant Director of Communications and Public Relations at United Way of the Lower Mainland, provided background on the organization and their Acts of Local Love campaign, which aims to encourage one million people by 2025 to engage in acts of local love. Ms. Hill requested that Port Moody proclaim September 20, 2018 United Way Day, and responded to questions from Council regarding the organization s work and involvement with local schools. Rotary Club of Port Moody 3.2 Presentation: Alan Schmelzel, Ian MacPhail, and Allan Stjernegaard Delegation Request: Alan Schmelzel File: 01-0230-01 Ian MacPhail provided an overview of Port Moody Rib Fest 2018, noting that the event was a success with approximately 50-60,000 attendees, $70,000 raised, and 100% of waste recycled. Mr. MacPhail provided examples of how the funds raised would be used to support community programs, and noted that there will be vegetarian and vegan food options at the event next year. Mr. Garrett highlighted the importance of raising awareness for mental health, and requested support for the Light Up Purple Campaign and a proclamation of October 10, 2018 as Mental Health Day in the City of Port Moody. Ms. Sampliner noted that she is working on the implementation of the BC Energy Step Code with Maya Chorobik and Patricia Bell from the Community Energy Association. Ms. Sampliner and Ms. Chorobik gave a presentation on the BC Energy Step Code, providing information on Step Code objectives, Port Moody building emission statistics, provincial initiatives related to the Step Code, Step Code benefits, Energy Step Code Council, implementation approaches, ways to measure compliance, and implementation plans for Port Moody. CW18/084 THAT notification of the City s intent to consult with industry stakeholders be submitted to the Energy Step Code Council as recommended in the report dated August 28, 2018 from the Planning and Development Department Policy Planning Division regarding BC Energy Step Code Overview and Intent to Consult; AND THAT staff be directed to report back with an engagement plan for the development of a strategy for the implementation of the BC Energy Step Code in Port Moody. SC(COTW) - Agenda - 2018 10 16 13 Item 6.1 To: Council File #: 18-7715-35-02 Date: October 8, 2018 From: Subject: Community Services Department Cultural Services Division Inlet Spring Regatta Delegation Response At the July 17, 2018 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Inlet Spring Regatta delegation (Attachment 1) provided an overview of the 2018 event and requested that the City provide the same level of support for the next Regatta to be held on April 28, 2019, in addition to support in advertising the event. Council passed the following resolution: CW18/061 THAT the delegation request be placed on a subsequent Council meeting for consideration. In 2018, the City provided the following support to the Inlet Spring Regatta event: grant of $1440.08 to offset the City s fees ($337.58 picnic shelter fee waived; up to $1,110 in Parks staff time to support the event and provide waste management support); the closure of the boat launch for April 22, 2018 and use of the boat trailer parking lot at no cost; closure of the Designated Anchorage Area for April 22, 2018; exclusive use of the east and west docks for the day; dedicated parking spaces; and City staff support leading up to the event (includes signage updates/installation). The value of providing the same level of support in 2019 as was provided in 2018 is $1,454.30 and is comprised of: $344.30 waiving of picnic shelter fee (inclusive of GST); and $1,110 grant to offset staff and waste management support (no increase is required for 2019). The City can provide support by promoting the event via the City s online calendar (at portmoody.ca), by putting up posters provided by the organizers in City facilities, and by sharing the organizers social media posts (i.e. repost/retweet) when possible. Council may choose to support the Inlet Spring Regatta with a fee waiver of $344.30 to cover the use of the picnic shelter. 2. Council may choose to support the Inlet Spring Regatta with a fee waiver of $344.30 to cover the use of the picnic shelter and up to $1,110 of in-kind support to cover staff time and support for waste management. 3. Council may choose not to support the Inlet Spring Regatta. Should Council choose option 2, Council may wish to fund the request from the Festival and Special Event Program.
