Golf Operations Newsletter Winter Edition From the desk of: Adam H. Bowles, PGA Golf Operations Manager The end of the season is upon us. But do not let that stop you from playing in our last few events of the year. Listed in the newsletter are a few of the options you have left before we start to feel that cool breeze every day and frost lays on the ground for hours. Also listed are a few additional nuggets of golf related news and things to look forward to. This upcoming weekend, November 9th-11th, will be the last time we can play the Bald Mountain course until it reopens on April 1 st, 2019. We will also be opening all 18 holes for that three day period so you can enjoy it one more time before we close down. So make your tee times soon! During the course closure the maintenance staff will be doing tree removal, pond dredging, and routine maintenance. We are excited about getting some of the trees removed so we can better take care of our tees and greens. For years now the trees have taken over in areas where we need direct sunlight and airflow to make sure the grass has a proper amount of time to grow and heal. Additional trees will be removed to ensure playability for years to come. The item of interest we hear the most from our homeowners are that the trees are in the way of their tee shots and approaches to certain greens. We know it will be a moment of question when you see some of the areas where trees were removed, but trust in the reasoning. We will be opening the Bald Mountain course on March 30 th and 31 st, for our members only, to get out and see the course before we reopen to the public. Help us champion this effort as it is the absolute most important thing we can do to bring health and sustainability to the course we love so much. TIP OF THE MONTH: UPCOMING EVENTS: When Ben Hogan called golf "a game of misses," he probably wasn't talking popped-up drives, worm burners and shanks (a miss for ol' Ben was likely a groove low on the face). But hey, this is the hand most golfers have been dealt, so instead of playing the blame game every time you hit a bad shot -- glaring at that chirping bird, gesturing indignantly at the ground where the ball was lying, examining the club for some strange malfunction -- get real and find out why you hit the shots you hit. 2 HELP US HELP GOLF EVENT NOVEMBER 10TH When: Saturday, November 10th 2018 Captain s Choice shotgun start at noon.
