Canterbury Recreation Association, Inc. Rules for Pool and Tennis Areas 2016 These rules do not attempt to instruct our members in matters of normal and respectable conduct, but are intended to secure the maximum safety and enjoyment of our facilities. Please read and understand our rules. They will be strictly enforced. General Rules 1. Admittance. Members are to check in at the breezeway desk with the attendant, who will verify membership status. 2. Guests a. Local Guest. The charge for each local pool and/or tennis guest is $3.00 per day during the operating season. Local guests must be registered by an adult member of the CRA family. The adult member must accompany the guest at all times while at the facility. This fee is waived for board members who are in attendance when bringing up to two (2) pool/tennis guests per visit. b. Members may reserve a portion of the pavilion for private parties/events. See reservation guidelines at end of General Rules section. c. Out of Town Guest. An Out of Town Guest is defined as someone who resides outside the area and who is spending at least one overnight with a CRA member. The fee for an Out of Town Guest will be $5.00 per person per week, with a maximum of $10.00 per week, per family. Outof Town Guests must be registered by the adult member of the CRA family. d. Employed Sitter/Nanny: A full time babysitter or nanny employed by a CRA family and registered for the season with the Treasurer may be admitted with the CRA member children upon payment of a $25.00 annual fee, payable with annual dues. e. Party Guest: The charge for a party guest is $3.00 per person. Parents accompanying children who are party guests may enter without charge.

f. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests and should advise them of CRA rules and regulations 3. Weather policy. In the event of inclement weather (thunder, lightning, high winds, etc.), the pool and surrounding areas (deck, snack bar area, pavilion, bathrooms), tennis courts and exterior pavilion may need to be vacated. CRA policy will be to follow guidelines as set forth by the current pool management company and under the discretion of the lifeguard in charge and facilities manager. Typically, a 30 minute waiting period will be observed after each instance of thunder or lightning. 4. In order to maintain a harmonious relationship with our neighbors, members and guests will refrain from trespassing on the adjoining property at all times. Use only the entrance and footpaths that have been provided for entering the facilities. 5. Members are financially responsible for any repairs to or replacement of property made necessary because of willful destruction by a member, anyone in a CRA member family, or guests. 6. CRA will not be responsible for any money or property losses sustained by members or their guests while on the property. Secure all valuables as necessary. 7. Members and guests should park their cars in an orderly fashion for the maximum use of CRA parking facilities and area. A parking area will be provided for bicycles. 8. Mini bikes and other motorized vehicles are prohibited from CRA property, except for the purpose of parking in designated areas. Skateboards are prohibited on the property. 9. Pets are not allowed on CRA property. 10. Smoking is not allowed on CRA property.

11. Canterbury Recreation Association will permit the consumption of alcoholic beverages by CRA members or their guests after 4:00 P.M. only. a. All persons consuming alcoholic beverages must be of legal age. There will be no exceptions. Violators are subject to expulsion from the premises and/or prosecution. b. All beverages must be consumed in an opaque, shatterproof container. No alcoholic beverage may be consumed in its original container. Kegs are not permitted under this policy. c. Beverages must not be left unattended at any time. d. Consumption must be inconspicuous no alcoholic beverage containers or packaging (whether full or empty) shall be visible to other members, guests, or staff. All trash and containers must be removed from the premises empty containers may not be disposed of on CRA property. Members are reminded that a family friendly atmosphere is to be maintained at all times. e. Intoxicated or impaired persons will not be tolerated. Violators will be required to leave the premises. The Pool Manager will have the authority to require violators to leave the premises. Repeat violations may result in suspension or termination of CRA membership without refund. Members are encouraged to bring any questionable or problematic behavior to the attention of the Pool Manager. f. As with all food and drink at CRA, no glass containers of any kind are permitted, and no beverages may be brought into the pool. g. Absolutely no alcohol of any kind is permitted on CRA premises during swim meets or other GRAL events. Violations of this rule may result in CRA s forfeiture of these events. h. This policy will not apply to adult only functions as designated and scheduled by the Board. Pool Rules 1. Hours of Operation in Full Season (Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day): Monday Thursday 11 a.m. 8 p.m. Friday 11 a.m. 9 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. 9 p.m. Sunday 11 a.m. 8 p.m.

a. When morning swim team practice or swim lessons are underway, the main pool and wading pool are not to be used prior to the regular pool opening time. b. Hours may be altered at the direction of the Facility Manager and/or the lifeguards due to weather conditions or other swimming activities. c. While Henrico County Public Schools are in session, the pool opening time is 1 p.m. Monday Friday. On Memorial Day, the pool will open at 11 a.m. 2. Facility Manager and Lifeguards a. The recreation facility is under the supervision of the Facility Manager and lifeguards. These persons will enforce all rules and regulations and are authorized to temporarily suspend recreational facility privileges for anyone violating these rules. The lifeguard manager on duty is instructed to bar anyone from CRA property whose physical condition or behavior is contrary to the best interests of the Association. b. Members and guests are expected to cooperate and abide by staff members decisions and not interfere with and/or reprimand employees of the Association. If a difference of opinion should arise, members should speak with the Facilities Manager or Lifeguard Manager. 3. General Rules for Using the Pool a. Swim diapers. Regular diapers are not allowed to be worn in either the main swimming pool or the wading pool. Diapers labeled specifically for swimming (i.e., swim diapers) are required for all who are not fully toilet trained. b. Diaper changing is not allowed on the pool deck. Changing tables are provided in restrooms. c. The pool will be used only when lifeguards are on duty and the lifeguard chairs are occupied. d. Adult swim. At the discretion of the manager on duty, a fifteen (15) minute break will be called by the lifeguards at 12:45 p.m., 1:45 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 3:45 p.m., 4:45 p.m., and 5:45 p.m., wherein everyone except persons 18 years of age and older will be instructed to clear the pool. During Adult Swim, lifeguards will be on duty. e. Members are requested to supervise their children and their guests children in personal hygiene and instruct them to use the restroom facilities in the bathhouse.

f. Improper bathing attire (e.g. cut off pants), as judged by the Facility Manager and/or Lifeguard Manager, will not be allowed. g. Members are urged to have a medical check up and watch their health carefully during the swimming season. Members should not use the pool while experiencing severe colds, or other contagious or infectious diseases. h. Children ten (10) years of age and under will be prohibited from the pool area unless accompanied by an adult or a mature, responsible person to whom the parent has delegated this responsibility. The adult or mature responsible designee must be present in the pool area, not elsewhere on the property. Lifeguards and staff are prohibited from babysitting while on duty. i. The lifeguards will exercise general supervision over the wading pool. Children six (6) years of age and under using the wading pool must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or a mature, responsible person to whom that parent has delegated this responsibility. Children seven (7) years of age and older are prohibited in the wading pool area. j. Running, pushing, dunking, sitting on shoulders, and rough play are prohibited. k. Approved lifejackets may be worn in the shallow end of the pool only. No balls (other than soft, sponge like balls), inner tubes, flippers, snorkels, swim masks, or toys are allowed in the pool. l. Noodles can be used from 11 a.m. to noon (12 p.m.) and from 7 p.m. to close. m. The following rules must be observed in the diving well of the pool: i. Under no circumstances are nonswimmers allowed in the deep end. ii. Do not swim in front of the diving board. iii. Only one (1) person is allowed on the diving board at a time. iv. Do not hang from the edge of the diving board. v. No excessive springing on the diving board is allowed. vi. No diving to the side of the board. vii. Questionable swimmers may be required to pass a test to stay in viii. the deep end. No swimming across or playing in the diving well, unless permission is granted by the lifeguard on duty. n. No sitting on deck railing. o. Tables and grounds must be kept clean. Cups, wrappers, and refuse must be placed in the trash containers provided. No glass of any kind (jars,

bottles, etc.) is permitted inside the pool enclosure. Tables must not be moved out of place without proper permission. p. Goggles or sunglasses may not be worn while using the diving board or slide. q. No eating or drinking in or at the edge of the pool. r. Diving is only allowed in the diving well. s. No water squirters or water guns are allowed in or around the pool. Slide rules 1. One person on the ladder and slide at a time. 2. Person must be out of splash area before the next person may go. 3. Riders must go down the slide in a sitting position with their feet first. 4. No double riding. 5. Riders must be able to swim. 6. Water must be turned on for the slide to be used. Do not use a dry slide. 7. No life jackets, floats, noodles, kick boards, or water wings on the slide. 8. No swimming in the splash area during slide use. 9. Riders may be denied slide use for not following the above rules. 10.The slide weight limit is posted at the pool and is to be followed by all swimmers. Tennis rules 1. Hours of operation: Daily 8 a.m. 10 p.m. a. It is important that tennis players be familiar with the tennis court rules. All rules must be read and practices and will be rigidly enforced. Non compliance with these rules could lead to suspension of tennis privileges. 2. Attire a. Appropriate tennis attire (including tennis shoes, shirts, etc.) must be worn at all times. 3. Reservations a. Individual reservations must be made for court use at all times.

b. Daily sign up sheets will be posted at least twenty four (24) hours in advance so the courts may be reserved at least a day in advance. c. Courts may be reserved up to a maximum of one and one half (1 1/2) hours. d. When reserving a court, the member s name must appear on the sign up sheet. Member may play only on the court reserved. e. Every family has the opportunity to reserve the courts a maximum of two times a day. However, these two times may not be consecutive. Thus, a family name should not appear for more than two reservation periods per day. f. Members arriving later than ten (10) minutes after scheduled starting time may forfeit use of the court when others are waiting to play. g. Adults (those ages 18 and over) have preference on Courts 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Students who have full time jobs have the same privileges. h. Children (those ages 17 and younger) have exclusive use of Court 2 at all items. Adults may not reserve Court 2 at any time. However, if there are no children playing on Court 2, adults (including adults with children) may use that court. If any children should arrive and want to use Court 2, the adults (or adults with children) must give way to the children. i. Canterbury tennis teams have preference over others for matches and practices, when signed up for in advance and approved by the chairperson of the Tennis Committee. 4. General rules in using the tennis courts a. Tennis courts should be used for tennis only. b. Small children are not permitted inside the court area at any time. Parents will be mindful of children outside the courts. c. Mini bikes, bicycles, roller skates, radios, rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards are prohibited on the tennis courts. d. Please lock all gates when you are the last to leave the courts. e. Please stay outside the tennis courts until it is your turn to play. f. Wait until the ball is out of play before crossing courts. g. Never chase a ball into another court until play has stopped. h. No glass containers of any kind are permitted on the courts. i. Everyone using the courts is expected to exhibit common courtesy and good manners. Unsportsmanlike conduct (including abusive

language) or willful destruction of Association property will not be tolerated. j. The tennis facility is under the supervision of the Facility Manager and lifeguards. These persons will enforce all rules and regulations and are authorized to temporarily suspend recreation facility privileges for anyone violating these rules or for conduct not in the best interest of the Association. k. Please make every effort to keep the tennis courts clean. It is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that tennis balls, cans, tops, etc., are placed in the trash receptacles to avoid any litter on or around the courts. l. No child under eight (8) years old may play on the courts unless accompanied by an adult. m. All rules apply to all guests. 5. Women s RSLTL Tennis Only Membership a. The RSLTL (Richmond Suburban Ladies Tennis League) tennis membership entitles the member the ability to play and practice on a Suburban team during the RSLTL season (approximately seven weeks in the fall and spring of each year). b. The Tennis only member does not have access to the pool, is not listed in the directory, is not a voting member of the Association and does not have individual access to the tennis facility. c. The fee for this individual, Tennis Only membership is $75 per year. Membership runs from July 1 through June 30. The fee will not be prorated.
