How would you like to practice golf so that there was a very high chance that you would improve enough to play par golf or even break par? It is very possible for advanced golfers willing to apply a different approach to improving their game.

In this video series we re going to share with you proven golf practice strategies we ve learned over many years of working with elite golfers so you can practice your golf skills to produce much lower golf scores.

We ll explain the key factors that drive progress from golf practice, and the common mistakes that golfers make when practicing their golf skills that keeps their golf score average higher than it should be.

Over the series of videos we ll also describe golf best practice techniques that you should learn and adapt into your own game to improve every aspect of your golf performance, from the practice fairway to the golf course.

But before I begin you might be wondering who we are and why we re sharing this information with you

We ve worked with elite level golfers for over 20 years and have coached many golfers to win state, national and international golf tournaments. Dave and I have been PGA golf professionals for more than 25 years and have spent many thousands of hours coaching golfers from beginners to winners.

But enough of that; as they say in the classics lets get on with the show

So what is golf practice and what are the 4 elements in the golf practice formula that will help you drive your game to lower golf scores?

"Golf practice is the procedure you use for learning, developing and acquiring golf experience. " You execute golf practice routines to develop, improve and master your golf skills, and you do this by repeating highly specific behaviours many times until you have a very high degree of competency and trust in them.

The idea is pretty simple really. You practice golf skills so you can perform particular golf shots when they matter to you. It s certainly not rocket science but it is important that you understand that the elements that support your golf practice platform are planned out before you hit shots.

Golf practice is simply the reinforcement of particular actions that help you to create a specific type of result, or set of results that you desire. And by improving the nature of the way that you go about practicing your golf skills, you can in-turn generate the results you seek sooner.

Regrettably when we practice golf skills incorrectly we are setting ourselves up for failure. In other words when we really need to produce a result, this will be the time that the particular shot you re attempting to play will more than likely not come off as planned.

An example of practicing incorrectly would be to practice golf skills that you are already very good at. Which is a really popular way to practice with novice to advanced golfers. Many golfers will go to the practice range with the same golf clubs and practice the same routines rather than practicing with the clubs that they find more difficult to use, and also the golf shots they find difficult to play.

"This is the most effective golf practice method that requires the least amount of effort and produces consistent results in practice and when competing in golf tournaments, based on repeatable - well defined routines that have been proven to work over time."

So before you begin designing your golf practice session plan you should understand how 4 vital practice elements will influence your practice effort and ultimately your golf performances

The stroke volume is the total amount of golf strokes you make during each golf practice session. Most golfers just hit what s in the range bucket or the practice bag

Just hitting lots of golf balls doesn t guarantee success in golf, but it can guarantee long term injuries..

Ideally you should break your total practice volume down into manageable sets of golf strokes. Hitting 10 sets of 10 golf shots makes it easier for you to stay focused, and it s also easier to measure and manage your practice effort.

This is the rate of recurrence of practicing a particular golf skill. How often do you need to practice certain golf skills in a week, and when is the best time to perform the skill set? Should you practice your short putting skills after hitting three sets of drivers probably not?

Managing the frequency of your golf practice helps you to manage energy expenditure. Fatigue leads to poor focus and poor shotmaking and defeats the purpose of good practice.

When developing your golf practice plan a good rule of thumb is to schedule short game practice sessions and long game practice sessions separately. Practice short game skills in the morning and then long game skills after it and schedule a short recovery break between each session.

This is your level of your focus or the concentration you involve in practicing each golf stroke. How focused you are with each and every golf shot you hit has much to do with how important the golf shot is to you and also how confident you are at playing it.

When you break your golf stroke volume down into sets of ten golf shots and you practice the right skills at the best time in the day, you will find it easier to practice with the ideal level of intensity and get the most out of yourself as you work at your game..

Your practice intensity varies depending on the importance of the practice routine, and by practicing each shot within a pre-planned routine like it really matters to you it will be a lot easier to manage your intensity.

When you practice a skill set the key is to control what you re paying attention to. Your responsibility is to control your eye gaze and maintain it for each and every practice shot.

Golf Practice Duration describes the period of time you actually invest in hitting sets of golf shots, and the time it takes to hit sets of golf shots will vary depending on whether you re practicing with a preshot routine or not.

Technique practice doesn t usually require the use of a pre-shot routine whereas practicing targeting skills does.

If you know that it takes you four minutes and 45 seconds to hit ten pitch shots to a target, then you can easily work out how long it will take to hit 5 sets of ten pitch shots to a target which will help you to plan your weekly practice volume more easily.

The idea is to measure how long it takes you to hit 10 golf shots with different skills you need to practice, like practice drills or putting or chipping to targets etc.

Practicing your golf skills correctly means building a platform of strategies that support and enhance your effort to improve. It s too easy to go out to the range and just hit golf balls and hope that you will do something that makes you improve.

Designing your daily practice sessions with the 4 elements will ensure that you use your time and effort effectively and it will help you to produce more success with your golf shots when it really counts.
