Check out review of Jimboat's 13th Ed. "Secrets of Tunnel Boat Design" book in the last HotBoat magazine printed! 1) Singapore's Marina Bay F1 Nations Cup MARINA BAY (Singapore): Ahmed Al Hameli backed up his pole position in qualifying to win the F1H2O Nations Cup Match Race and complete an impressive double for Team UAE. And for the second time today Team Qatar's Khalid Al Shamlan had to settle for second place behind the UAE driver, just missing out in a closely contested final shoot-out on Singapore s Marina Bay. The two-hour match race saw 16 drivers go through from qualifying to go head-to-head in a straight, knockout elimination, with Al Hameli coming out on top to match his success in the President s Cup Match Race in Kyiv back in July. A relatively easy route to the semi-final saw Al Hameli first dispose of Team Brazil, and then rather surprisingly, ease past Team South Africa's Mark Sheperd. Al Shamlan's route appeared as effortless, taking the younger of Team Hungary s Vo brothers, Viktor, in the first round and then Team Finland s Risto Painio. The semi-finals saw the UAE driver outpace Team Malaysia s Kane Fernandez who was gifted third overall after Team Brunei's Ismail bin haji Kabon was disqualified with Al Shamlan running solo around the course due to Kabon s DQ. The Match Race final brought together the two fastest men on the water, with Al Hameli having to work hard to just get across the line in front of Al Shamlan. F1H2O Nations Cup Match race result/points: 1 6 UAE / Ahmed Al Hameli 25pts; 2 4 Qatar / Khalid Al Shamlan 22pts; 3 16 Malaysia / Kane Fernandez 20pts; 4 14 Finland / Risto Painio 18pts F1 Nations Cup is seen as an affordable way for new teams and drivers to compete internationally, giving Nations the opportunity to introduce and develop up-and-coming talented young drivers. The boats are owned and managed by H2O Racing at their headquarters in Abu Dhabi and leased-out to teams. The single-seater tunnel-hull catamarans are capable of breathtaking acceleration, high speeds and exceptional maneuverability. Each boat is approximately six metres in length, two metres wide, weighs 455kgs and powered by a 2.5litre, 225HP Mercury Optimax 200XS SST engine. Check out more at: f1h2o.com and cuph2o.com

Page 2 of 5 2) Simulator technology to help 2012 Powerboat Festival Formula One World Championship teams have been using technicallyadvanced simulators for several years to develop both car and driver performance without the need to physically test on track. Thanks to a unique partnership between the P1 Marine Foundation and Southampton University simulator technology is being introduced into powerboat racing in a move which could revolutionise driver training and participation in championships such as P1's SuperStock series. Simulators provide the most immersive racing experience possible outside of a boat, allowing a driver to experience track lay-out and handling without going near the water. Southampton University is engaged in a project using simulators to investigate and then reduce shock and vibration levels during training of drivers and navigators and called P1 in to help. Developing a realistic training environment is not a trivial process as researchers have to carefully consider the many factors influencing the boat during a race as well as how it is driven by the pilot. The simulator is designed to assess human driver performance in relation to a variety of measures including eye movements. P1 Marine Foundation s active collaboration with Southampton University started recently when P1 SuperStock driver Andy Wilby took part in a recent experiment. Andy (pictured) was among the leading drivers fighting for podium places in the national SuperStock Championship this season at the wheel of his striking boat Typhoo. Through the Marine Foundation he was able to take part in a race simulation experiment set up by the Psychology Department based upon recording data from tracking a driver's eye movements. The University of Southampton and P1 remain committed to pushing forward research into powerboat performance for improved safety and sustainability in the future. Alongside the high speed craft simulator project, the University has also been engaged with the P1 Marine Foundation investigating the effect of propeller immersion on engine power and torque requirements and sustainable alternatives to glass reinforced polymer construction for increased toughness Check out more at cowes.co.uk 3) Great Powerboat Videos Check out these great videos......water speed record videos - Part 1 Part 2 4) FEATURE: Carella Wins Abu Dhabi F1, Shaun Torrente Crashes Out, but back in Sharjah ABU DHABI - Italian Alex Carella of the Qatar Team held off rival Ahmed Al Hameli of Team Abu Dhabi and teammate Jay Price to move into first overall in the UIM F1 H2O World Championship drivers standings going into the final race of the 2011 season in the United Arab Emirates city of Sharjah. The first corner on the opening lap was once again a battleground when two rookies, Shaun Torrente of the Qatar Team got together with Poland's Bartek Marszalek taking both drivers out immediately and both boats heavily damaged and questionable for next weekends Grand Prix. In Abu Dhabi, the 26 year-old driver from Piacenza rocketed into first place from pole position and never looked back

Page 3 of 5 winning by 3.25 seconds and with the victory now is holding down 84 points in the championship to Price's 79. While Alex held off Al Hameli for first, the battle for third and the final place on the podium was just as exciting with Norway's Marit Stromoy of Team Nautica, who had qualified second before being passed by Al Hameli, was headed for her first career podium until her engine let go with just three laps from the end giving Price the final step on "the box". For Jay Price, he was disappointed with his third place result but was happy with the team getting both drivers on the podium. "It will be another uphill climb for me next weekend to win my second title, but we are going to give it our all and Sharjah is one of those places where the "weird" happens and you really never know what will develop until the final lap." The field of 18 drivers from 12 different countries move up the road to just outside Dubai and the historic city of Sharjah for the 13th Grand Prix of Sharjah on the edge of the Khalid Lagoon on the 15th and 16th of December. Two drivers from the Qatar Team fighting for a championship and the pole position title still up in the air. Following their horror crash in Abu Dhabi, many assumed Team Nautica's Polish driver Bartek Marszalek and Team Qatar's Shaun Torrente would be missing from the 'Grand Finale' in the magnificent surroundings of Sharjah. Torrente, who had shipped his own American built Gran Prix boat over from the USA for the final two races of the year as part of the Qatar team was bitterly disappointed when he discovered his damaged boat was not repairable in time for Sharjah. However Team Qatar have agreed to loan him a DAC for the final race of the season. Check out more at: f1h2o.com and f1h2o.com/news/ See interview with Shaun Torrente after his crash 1st lap crash with Polish driver Bartek Marszalek in Abu Dhabi. Shaun's boat was not repairable in time for the Sharjah race, but his team Qatar has loaned him a DAC boat for the last race, so he'll be back in business again this week See Jimboat's exclusive interview with Shaun Torrente, up-and-coming star of 2011 F1 H20 World Championship circuit together with his Crew Chief Ted Gryguc.
