Waterford High School FFA News February 2017 The FFA prepares students from all backgrounds for careers in science, agriculture, research, medicine, environmentalism, business and marketing while developing their leadership abilities and personal growth. What s been happening in WHS FFA? January Meeting: At our January meeting, we did a fun Parliamentary Procedure demonstration, as we made motions and voted on what to add to our trail mix! We discussed a lot of upcoming events and took our yearbook photo, too. Representatives from Modern Woodmen came to our meeting to present a check for $1,000, as a matching funds grant related to our fruit sale. THANK YOU to Modern Woodmen for your support of our organization!

Tubing with Burlington FFA: 10 FFA members went to the Rock Snow Complex on January 26. We enjoyed the company of Burlington FFA, and had a lot of fun tubing for 2 hours! We would love to have a larger group go next year! Sweatshirts Ordered: Our new sweatshirts will be coming soon! They will be here in time for FFA Week and will be another way we can promote our organization. Thanks to everyone who ordered - and to Kirsten Ranke & Olivia Spaight for working with Justin and the advisors to complete the order. When the sweatshirts come in, Kirsten & Olivia will let you know and get them distributed as soon as possible! FFA Showcase Display: Prior to Freshman Open House, officers and members worked to improve the FFA display case, based on this year s national FFA theme: Transform! They worked together to make it look great! If you have any ideas for a future display, let your officer team know. We would be excited to hear ideas and to help you carry out your plan! Freshman Open House: Thank you to everyone who helped promote FFA & Ag Science during the Open House on February 1. Your enthusiasm to show off what we ve been doing and invite new members will help us start next year off right!

FFA Week is February 18-25: The dress up days this year are: Friday, Feb 17: Decorate Atrium after school Monday, Feb 20: Belt buckle, boots, and flannel Tuesday, Feb 21: Truck and tractor apparel Wednesday, Feb 22: Camo and blaze orange Thursday, Feb 23: Waterford FFA shirt and blue & yellow After school Thursday: Ice cream social and Atrium clean-up We will be doing activities during lunch hours. Sign up to help with these activities during our Feb. 8th meeting! Get your friends involved during lunch! Welcome to Waterford, Ms. Braukhoff! Waterford is excited to welcome our new Ag teacher and FFA Co-Advisor! Ms. Braukhoff hails from Janesville, Wisconsin where she grew up on a beef and crop operation. As an FFA member, she earned the American Degree, and she is a lifetime member of the Janesville FFA Alumni! Ms. Braukhoff went to UW-Platteville where she majored in Agricultural Education - Teaching and Biology - Teaching. She is excited to now join the Waterford Ag Department and FFA! We are very excited to have her here! Come meet her at the meeting February 8!

Ways to be involved in February & March: 1. Attend the February Monthly Meeting: We will be planning chicken sale, FFA Week, and other upcoming events. *Please note that our meetings will be held in Room 209 for the remainder of the year* 2. Participate in FFA Week Theme Days & Lunchtime Activities: See above for details! Dress up and get involved in the fun! 3. Help with the Teacher Breakfast Feb. 22: Rise and shine early and plan to be at school at 5:30 a.m. to help serve eggs, pancakes, and sausage to our teachers! We will also be serving the first hour class that donated the most food during the Martin Luther King Food Drive. 4. Participate in a CDE (judging) team: We will be taking 4 teams to this competition at UW-Platteville: Ag Mechanics, Horse Evaluation, Livestock Judging & Food Science. If you are still interested, please talk to your officers and Advisors! 5. Help with the FFA Alumni Craft Fair & our bake sale: Plan to stay after school on Friday, March 31, to help the alumni set up their craft fair. At the same time, we will be gathering in the Foods room again to bake lots of yummy treats to sell at the Alumni Craft Fair on Saturday, April 1. This spring, we will be sharing the bake sale area with Cloverview 4-H. All donations received will be split equally between the two organizations. So, we want to sell lots of bakery! Come have fun with your FFA friends, help the alumni, and help us raise funds for our chapter! Mark your calendars for future FFA Events: February 7: Good luck to our Speaking Contest participants!
