Western Carolina women s basketball showed the heart of a lion Thursday night in their gritty and heart-wrenching comeback attempt against Mercer falling 69-67 in the Ramsey Center. The Bears may have taken the game but just might have woken a sleeping den of Catamounts as WCU put together their strongest and most solid performance of the season. In early January this Catamount team looks like they just found their roar against Mercer. Clawing back into the game after trailing 47-28 at the half, Western Carolina outscored Mercer in each of the final two periods for a total of 39-22 tying the game at 67 off a three-point shot by Jewel Smalls.
