EDITOR; LOU SATTERTHWAITE geoemm@tiscali.co.uk MINUTES SECRETARY Kate Satterthwaite geoemm@tiscali.co.uk MIKE DOYLE Many of you will be familiar with Mike, but perhaps not by name. Mike suffered a stroke on 6 July and was taken to the Stroke Ward at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham. He has lost the use of his left side and has had trouble with swallowing. He is progressing slowly and also has had to deal with a chest infection. He has now been transferred to Solihull Hospital where he has been receiving many visitors from within athletics in addition to his family and his partner, Pam. Your Treasurer, Martin Wilkinson, has also visited and found Mike in a fairly upbeat mood blaming me for his timekeeping activities (tongue in cheek). I m afraid I can only take the blame for the many hours he and Pam spent twice a year at thetough Guy events in Wolverhampton. Recovery will be slow and it s sad to say that his time, keeping days are over but never say never. Pam has been keeping me up to date by text messages and she has been bearing up in difficult circumstances. I m sure we all wish Mike and Pam all the very best and hope that they can get back to normal as soon as possible. (Thanks to Tom Morris for this news GEORGE CHAPLIN Godiva Harriers We are sad to announce the recent death of one of our great band of walkers. If any of T members wish to attend the funeral, this will take place on 6 September 2018 at 10.0 am at the CanleyCrematorium, Cannon Hill Road (Charter Chapel) CV4 7DF There will be a reception afterwards and his daughter invites his friends to stay for this. (Thanks to Colin Kirkham for this information. colin.kirkham@talk21.com) 2

BMAF/EAMA 5K ROAD WALK : HORWICH : 17 JUNE 2018 32 Competitors faced the starter in this popular promotion as part of the Horwich Festival of Racing. Good conditions, cloudy but dry. There was a good contingent from the Republic of Ireland whose support is greatly appreciated. There were three new championship best performances headed by Ian Richars (BMAF Walks Supremo) with a world best o/70 Road time. Noel Blatchford set a new Ladies o/70 time and Andrea Lennon bettered her own o/75 CBP. Thanks to all the officials, particularly those who switched from competing to enable the event to be adequately covered. Once again we enjoyed camaraderie with the runners competing in this BMAF 5k race. International Age Related Match 1 England 272.45 2 Ireland 253.34 Club Team Results 1. Birchfield 86m. 21s.
