Inernaional Journal of Scienific & Engineering Research Volume 9, Issue 4, April-2018 562 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF NON-LINEAR PIPE BENDS 1 KALIKI HEMANTH, M.IMTHIYAS SHERIFF, KODAM VINEETH KUMAR, 2 M.ANANDRAJ, 3 S.SELLAKUMAR 1 Under graduaion, Saveeha engineering college, chennai, Tamil nadu, 602105, india 2 Pos graduaion, Saveeha engineering college, chennai, Tamil nadu, 602105, india 3 Assisan Professor,Saveeha engineering college, chennai, Tamil nadu, 602105, india Corresponding Auhor Email: kalikihemanhreddy@gmail.com Absrac: Pipe bends are mos imporan necessary for all kind of indusries in erms of pipelining maerials. Pipe bend is very difficul o avoid hickening on he inner side of he pipe bend and hinning of he ouer side of he pipe bend. The cross secion also becomes non circular due o bending process; his end o cause ovaliy and hinning in pipe bends. ovaliy is he main cause o fail he pipe. This sudy is an aemp o analyze he sainless seel ube.we are going o apply boh inernal load and exernal load on he pipe. Inernal load we are applying as pressure and exernal load we are going o applying by using spring balance The sainless seel ube wih Diameer 42.2mm and hickness 3mm and bend radius of 250 mm for percenage of ovaliy varied from 0 o 20 is considered for doing analysis. The pipe bend geomery is impored in o ANSYS as IGES file and he convergence sudy was performed. Work bench opion is invoked in he analysis for beer resuls.. The resuls of analysis presened in he form of oal deflecion and sresses for incremened inernal pressure was compued for various percenage of ovaliy. During his process he bend undergoes plasic insabiliy due o pressure and bending. Pipe bends improve he pipe qualiy and rusworhiness in erms of pipe bend analysis. Finally, he induced sress inensiy and deformaion of pipe due o inernal pressure and bending were noed. Nomenclaure: Co - Percenage of ovaliy, C - Thinning Ch - Thickening P - Inernal design pressure D - Diameer of pipe mean pipe radius (mm) P - Inernal pressure Dmax - Maximum ouside pipe diameer (mm) Dmin - Minimum ouside pipe diameer (mm) min - Mininum hickness max - Maximum hickness - Normal wall hickness Do - Nominal diameer of pipe(mm) 1.Inroducion: Generally for elbows here is high conservaism in he sense ha he experimenal loads are greaer han hose prediced. Pipe bend is very difficul o avoid he hinning on he inner side of he bend and hinking of he ouer side of he bend.therefore, wih an increase in emperaure he pipe is sreched by he expanding liquid and he liquid is compressed by he confinemen of he pipe. The pipelines used o ranspor heaed fluids experience changes in heir free lengh wih a change in emperaure of he fluids. Pipe bends are used exensively in power plans o convey fluids and o change he direcion of he fluids flowing inside he pipes. During operaion, pipe bends wih hinning are

Inernaional Journal of Scienific & Engineering Research Volume 9, Issue 4, April-2018 563 subjeced o higher sresses han pipe bends wih perfecly circular cross-secions. The srucural inegriy and cos of pipelines are of major concern in oil, chemical, and oher indusries. Pipelines can be subjeced o severe hermal, pressure, and oher mechanical loads.the pipelines used o ranspor heaed fluids experience changes in heir free lengh wih a change in emperaure of he fluids.in he general case, mos liquids expand hermally more per uni volume han does he pipe volume. Therefore, wih an increase in emperaure he pipe is sreched by he expanding liquid and he liquid is compressed by he confinemen of he pipe. The bend secion is he weaker par in high pressure applicaion because he pipe bend will be made wih he ovaliy. In his projec we are going o apply boh exernal and inernal load on pipes. We are going o apply inernal load as pressure which will conrolled by pressure regulaor and exernal load as weighs by using weighing machine 1.1 Purpose of pipe bend A smooh pipe bends are imporan componen in a piping work sysem. Normally, pipe sysems are designed wih sufficien direcional changes o sui he available working space and also o provide inheren flexibiliy o compensae for expansion and conracion. The pipe bends and he U-shape pipeline sysem (which is fabricaed wih 90 degree elbows and sraigh pipe) may be used in any piping sysem.i is very difficul o avoid 1.2 DEFINITION Ovaliy or Non circulariy I is he raio of he difference beween he major diameer and minimum diameer by he nominal diameer of he pipe Ovaliy of pipe c D o= MAX D MIN (1) D O Ovaliy in percenage WHERE; c D o= MAX D MIN 100 (2) D O Thinning D D o= MAX +D MIN (3) 2 I is he raio of he difference beween he nominal hickness and minimum hickness by he nominal hickness of he pipe. We are going o use mesh elemen size as 3mm.hen we are going o apply boundary condiion.we are going o find wih on bend secion, wih on axis line and wihou on pipe bends.
