The New England Revolution fell to the Portland Timbers, 2-0, at Providence Park on June 7. Timbers forward Fanendo Adi recorded a second-half brace after entering the match as a substitute in the 67th minute. Adi broke the scoreless deadlock in the 86th minute and added an insurance goal in the 89th minute. New England played the match without Jermaine Jones (injury) and Juan Agudelo (international duty). Seven yellow cards were issued during the match. TEAM NOTES AGAINST PORTLAND TIMBERS Wednesday s match marks the eighth all-time meeting between New England and Portland. It also marks the fourth time the Timbers visit the Revolution at Gillette Stadium. The Revolution are unbeaten against the Timbers in three all-time meetings at Gillette Stadium, accruing a 1-0-2 record. This is Portland s first visit to Foxborough since Aug. 16, 2014, when it played New England to a 1-1 draw. Charlie Davies scored his first goal at Gillette Stadium as a Revolution player in that match, his fourth appearance with the club. Forward Fanendo Adi recorded a brace in the clubs last meeting on June 7, 2015. He is the only Timbers player with multiple goals against the Revolution. Fans can also listen to the match locally on 98.5 The Sports Hub, the primary carrier for Revs radio, and on WMVX 1570, the primary carrier for Revs radio in Portuguese. REVS TO PLAY FIRST MIDWEEK MATCH OF 2016 New England will play its first of four midweek matches on Wednesday when the Revs host the Portland Timbers. The Revolution will also play midweek games on June 22 (at Vancouver Whitecaps FC), July 6 (vs. New York City FC), and August 24 (at San Jose Earthquakes). Last season, New England went 1-2-0 in midweek matches. THREE MATCHES IN EIGHT DAYS The Revolution are in the midst of the first of two stretches that include three matches in eight days. Following the conclusion of the loss on April 23 at D.C. United, the Revs are back in action on April 27 vs. the Portland Timbers and again on April 30 vs. Orlando City SC. The club has another stretch of three matches in eight days in July, starting on July 2 at the Montreal Impact, followed by a return home on July 6 vs. New York City FC, and the conclusion of the stretch on July 9 vs. Columbus Crew SC. REVOLUTION TO HOST FIRST WESTERN CONFERENCE OPPONENT For the first time in the 2016 regular season, the New England Revolution will play a Western Conference Opponent at Gillette Stadium when the defending MLS Cup Champion Portland Timbers come to town. The Revs have only played one other Western Conference opponent this year, the club s season opener on March 6 at the Houtston Dynamo, a match that resulted in a 3-3 draw. Last season, the Revolution went 4-5-1 against Western Conference opposition, including a 3-1-1 mark in matches played at Gillette Stadium REVS COLLECTING RESULTS For just the third time in club history, the New England Revolution have picked up points in six of the club s first seven matches. The 2005 and 2007 New England Revolution teams also accomplished this feat en route to MLS Cup appearances. BIG SAVE BOB Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth has opened his 2016 campaign at a torrid pace. The eight-year veteran has yielded only one goal in three matches at Gillette Stadium this season and saw his home shutout streak snapped at 273 minutes in the April 9 draw with Toronto FC. Shuttleworth has been rewarded for his early-season excellence, earning Santander Man of the Month honors for March, three MLS Save of the Week nominations, and an MLS Team of the Week selection for Week 3. SHUTTLEWORTH ECLIPSES MINUTES MILESTONE Shuttleworth also became the second goalkeeper in Revolution history to eclipse the 10,000 minute milestone in the April 9 match vs. Toronto FC. He joins his predecessor, Matt Reis, who accrued more than 22,000 minutes in his decade-long run with the club, on the exclusive list. In addition, Shuttleworth joins Chris Tierney (15,620), Lee Nguyen (11,130), and Darrius Barnes (10,105) as the fourth active Revolution player with more than 10,000 minutes played for the club. SHUTTLEWORTH MAKES HISTORY On March 20 against the Philadelphia Union, Bobby Shuttleworth became the fourth goalkeeper in MLS history to record two penalty kick saves in the same game in the regular season. The Revolution keeper turned away PK attempts from Ilsinho and Sebastien Le Toux. He joins Kansas City s Tony Meola (Aug. 10, 2002 vs. D.C.), Dallas s D.J. Countess (Oct. 11, 2003 vs. NY/NJ), and Vancouver s David Outsted (July 12, 2015 vs. NY) on the list. Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis stopped two penalty shots against Columbus in the 2004 MLS Cup Playoffs (Oct. 31, 2004) and remains the only player to accomplish the feat in the postseason. Shuttleworth earned an MLS Team of the Week (Week 3) nod for his performance. ROWE-ING INTO THE RECORD BOOKS Kelyn Rowe scored his 23rd career goal with the Revolution in New England s Week 7 match vs.toronto FC, moving the 24-year-old into a tie with Imad Baba for 10th place on the club s all-time scoring list. He joins Diego Fagundez (30) and Lee Nguyen (34) as the only active Revolution players in the top 10 on the club s all-time scoring chart. Rowe, now in his fifth season with New England, has made 129 appearances. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK The New England Revolution are creating goal scoring opportunities at an electric rate this season. All three players enter Week 9 among the top 10 of Eastern Conference players in chances created. Tierney, who has 14 chances created, is the only defender with more than 10, and he ranks alongside several of the League s most proflic and creative playmakers: Player Chances Created Sacha Kljestan (NY) 27 Ignacio Piatti (MTL) 20 Federico Higuain (CLB) 18 Lee Nguyen (NE) 16 David Villa (NYC) 15 Chris Tierney (NE) 14 Andrea Pirlo (NYC) 14 Chris Rolfe (DC) 14 Mike Grella (SKC) 13 Diego Fagundez (NE) 12

Opta statistics are below: REVS INK NGUYEN TO CONTRACT EXTENSION The New England Revolution announced on March 18 that midfielder Lee Nguyen signed a contract extension with the club. One of Major League Soccer s most exciting, creative, and inventive attacking midfielders, Nguyen is already etched in club history. Since joining New England via the 2012 MLS Waiver Draft, he has registered 34 goals and 24 assists in 130 appearances. Nguyen is one of eight players in Revs history to record 20 goals and 20 assists. HOMEGROWN PLAYERS TO STAY LOCAL The New England Revolution s first two Homegrown Players in club history, Diego Fagundez and Scott Caldwell, inked new deals prior to the start of the 2016 MLS regular season. Fagundez, who signed his new contract on Jan. 6, has recorded 30 goals and 20 assists, logging 8,029 minutes in 126 games played. Just 21-years-old, Fagundez ranks among the top 10 in club history for goals, shots, and shots on goal. Caldwell, who signed his new deal on March 1, has recorded two goals and 10 assists, registering 7,218 minutes in 97 games played. In 2015, fans named Caldwell the Santander Most Valuable Player for his performance while his teammates recognized him as Players Player of the Year. STARS AND STRIPES UP TOP The Revolution are the only team in Major League Soccer with at least three forwards who have received United States Men s National Team caps. Juan Agudelo, Teal Bunbury, and Charlie Davies have all appeared for the USMNT at both senior and youth levels. Agudelo has the most caps of the trio with 20, while Davies has 17 and Bunbury rounds out the group with four. REVOLUTION INK KOUASSI TO DP DEAL On Feb. 1, the Revolution announced the signing of midfielder Xavier Kouassi as a Designated Player. The captain of Swiss side FC Sion, Kouassi led the club into the knockout round of this year s Europa League, one of its most successful outings ever in a European competition. Although Kouassi has since been sidelined by a knee injury, he remains a key component of New England s future at just 26-years-old. His blend of athleticism, aggressiveness, and versatility will give the Revs flexibility throughout the starting lineup. THE FEMI FACTOR Rookie forward Femi Hollinger-Janzen made his fourth consecutive appearance as a substitute in the April 9 draw with Toronto FC. The Revolution selected the former Indiana Hoosier with the 51st overall selection (third round) in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, terrirtory typically reserved for reserve team players and trialists. However, Femi is quickly factoring into Jay Heaps gameplan despite missing a bulk of the preseason with a nagging injury. Although he has played only 29 total minutes, Femi was on the creative end of a disallowed game-winning goal in the draw with TFC. Player Poss. Won in Att. 3rd Interceptions Kelyn Rowe (NE) 10 15 Maximiliano Urruti (DAL) 10 11 Diego Fagundez (NE) 9 6 Fabian Castillo (DAL) 9 6 Luciano Acosta (DC) 7 2 THERE S NO PLACE LIKE HOME Having played just one home match throughout the month of March, the New England Revolution play four home matches during the month of April. The Revs hosted the New York Red Bulls (4/1) and Toronto FC (4/9), and welcome the Portland Timbers (4/27) and Orlando City SC (4/30) to Gillette Stadium. The Revolution are 20-10-5 all-time in home matches played in April, including a record of 6-1-2 since 2012. WATSON SCORES SECOND CAREER INTERNATIONAL GOAL Prior to joining the Revolution, Je-Vaughn Watson had made 52 career appearances with the Jamaican National Team, scoring one goal. In his first international cap since joining the Revs, Watson found the back of the net in Jamaica s World Cup Qualifier against Costa Rica on March 26. The Reggae Boyz and the Ticos played to a 1-1 draw. HERIVAUX AND HOLLINGER-JANZEN MAKE REVOLUTION DEBUTS Two Revolution players made their professional debuts on March 20 against the Phiadelphia Union. Zachary Herivaux became the third Homegrown Player to play in an MLS match in club history when he replaced another Homegrown Player, Scott Caldwell, as a substitute in the 86th minute. Earlier, third-round SuperDraft selection Femi Hollinger-Janzen, who officially signed with the Revs on March 16, debuted when he replaced Teal Bunbury in the 75th minute. Hollinger-Janzen appeared for the fourth consecutive game on April 9 against Toronto FC when he replaced Teal Bunbury in the 89th minute.

FLAG OF NEW ENGLAND Long before the sewing of the American flag as we know it -- before there were the United States, and hundreds of years before its slightly altered stars and stripes emerged on the Revolution club badge a flag of a different design was flown proudly in the early colonies that now comprise New England. Historic Revolutionary War artist John Trumbull s depiction of the Battle of Bunker Hill featured a red flag with a green pine tree, which often served as a representation of the New England colonies. While historians argue the exact dates of origin of this early flag, over time, the design stood out as a symbol of honor for the territory. It was a reflection of unification. It s flown as an homage to the region s pride and passion. No group has more pride or passion than Revolution supporters, who have flown the flag of New England in Gillette Stadium, and the former Foxboro Stadium, since the club s inception in 1996. WHAT THEY RE SAYING ABOUT THE REVS Sincere apologies to all-time MLS underrated team captain Dax McCarty, but I think Scott Caldwell is the most underrated player in the league.the New England Revolution holding midfielder isn t going to blow anyone away with his speed, skill or athleticism, but he excels at doing the simple things right, time after time after time. There s a reason his New England teammates voted him the Revolution Player of the Year in 2015. The 25-year-old Homegrown is clean on the ball, disciplined tactically, a solid defender and rarely makes a mistake. Sam Stejskal, MLSsoccer.com (April 7, 2016) [New England] is a team that has most of the pieces still in place from the run to the 2014 MLS Cup, and has arguably the league s best in-their-prime core. They put up three goals in Houston and made it look easy, and I think they ll do that a lot this season. Matt Doyle, MLSsoccer.com (March 7, 2016) The Revs have made the playoffs three seasons in a row and clearly have the pieces in place to make it four straight in 2016. Seth Vertelney, Goal.com (March 1, 2016) Koffie returned to the field on Saturday after serving a one-game suspension. The midfielder was sensational over 90 minutes against Toronto FC, as he made six interceptions and took two shots while maintaining 92% passing accuracy. The performance earned him a spot on the MLSSoccer.com s Team of the Week. Seth Macomber, The Bent Musket (April 11, 2016) With such a deep connection to both club and country on many different levels, the flag of New England now adorns the Revolution s uniforms both as testament to the region s revolutionary history, and as a visual representation of the club s supporters. Situated on the back of the jersey, at the base of the neck a position reserved for the most meaningful representations on soccer jerseys - the flag of New England now lives in honor on the back of every New England Revolution jersey. Sitting above the players last names, the Revolution and supporters alike are reminded that the club holds true to its community s historic roots in reverence, and continues to proudly represent the historic region of New England, while symbolically bringing the supporters onto the field, each and every game. HEAD COACH JAY HEAPS Years with Club: 5 Years coaching in MLS: 5 Career Coaching Record: 55-55-34 Postseason Record: 4-2-1 HEAD COACH JAY HEAPS Jay Heaps is in his fifth season as the head coach of the New England Revolution after taking the reins of the club following the 2011 season. In his first four years on the bench, Heaps transformed the Revs from a five-win club that finished at the bottom of the Eastern Conference to the 2014 Eastern Conference Champions while playing an open and attractive brand of soccer that has come to define the new-look Revolution. Over the course of his time with the Revolution, Heaps has transformed the club s roster with just four players (Darrius Barnes, Diego Fagundez, Bobby Shuttleworth and Chris Tierney) remaining from when he was named the sixth head coach in club history in November 2011. Smart drafting has yielded players like Andrew Farrell and Kelyn Rowe while players such as Teal Bunbury, Charlie Davies and Lee Nguyen have all seen their MLS careers revitalized under the 38-year-old s tutelage. That group, along with the likes of Juan Agudelo, Scott Caldwell, captain José Gonçalves and Gershon Koffie - all acquired by New England since Heaps was named head coach - forms the core of today s New England Revolution. That group, with the exception of Agudelo and Koffie, nearly led the Revs to their first MLS Cup championship in 2014, only to fall just shy, losing 2-1 in extra time to the host LA Galaxy. The Revs equaled a club record for wins that season and ended the year on a 9-1-1 run that saw the club finish second in the Eastern Conference with 55 points, which were the second most in club history. The team was even better in the playoffs, scoring a record seven goals to beat Columbus 7-3 on aggregate before knocking off New York 4-3 on aggregate in the Eastern Conference Championship for the first time since 2007 when Heaps was still playing for the Revs. Prior to being named the head coach of the Revolution, Heaps spent nine seasons as a player with the club. He ranks third in club hisory with 243 regular season games played and helped New England reach MLS Cup four times while winning the 2007 U.S. Open Cup and the 2008 SuperLiga. He served as an analyst on Revolution television broadcasts in 2010 and 2011. Year Team Overall Pct.
