Only Andre Miller (6.2), Jarrett Jack (5.0) and Manu Ginobili (4.8) average more assists off the bench than Walton during that time frame. Walton has handed out at least five dimes in 11 of his last 22 games. On March 4 versus New York, he set a career-high with 12 assists in 29 minutes off the bench. The last Cavs reserve to dish out at least 12 assists was Mo Williams, who had 14 assists on Feb. 11, 2011 against the Clippers. Walton s 12 assists remain the most by any Cavs player this season. He shot at least.500 from the field seven times, including.600 from the field six times in February. IRVING REACHES 2,000 POINTS: With his seventh point against the Knicks on March 4, Kyrie Irving became the 9th player in NBA history under the age of 21 to surpass 2,000 points for his career. GEE WHIZ: On Feb. 9 against Denver, Alonzo Gee shot a perfect 8-8 from the floor and finished with 20 points, which included 15 points in the first 5:44 of the first quarter. The last Cavaliers player to score at least 15 points in the first six minutes of a first quarter was Lamond Murray against the Lakers back on Jan. 12, 2001. Gee is also the only NBA player to accomplish the feat this season, with Carmelo Anthony being the last player to do so on April 18, 2012. The last time a Cavalier shot perfect on at least eight field goal attempts was on November 5, 2010, when Anderson Varejao went 10-10 against the Sacramento Kings. (Elias) COMEBACK KIDS: Against the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 25 at The Q, the Cavs overcame a 20-point deficit, 79-59, at the 6:12 mark of the third quarter by outscoring the Bucks 54-29 the rest of the way for their third straight home win. The last time Cleveland won after trailing by 20 or more points was on March 5, 2010 against Detroit, when the Cavaliers overcame a 21-point deficit. 40-35-32: Kyrie Irving won the Eastern Conference Player of the Week (Jan. 21-27) after scoring at least 30 points in three straight games (40 vs. BOS on 1/22, 35 vs. MIL on 1/25 and 32 at TOR on 1/26) to become only the fifth player in NBA history to register three straight 30-point games before his 21st birthday (John Drew, Bernard King, LeBron James and Kevin Durant). On the season, Irving is currently averaging 23.0 points per game, including shooting.414 from deep, 5.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 35.1 minutes per game. 40 AGAIN: Kyrie Irving notched his second career 40-point game after finishing with a game-high 40 points on 16-24 (.667) shooting from the field, five assists and two steals in 38 minutes in a 95-90 win over the Boston Celtics on Jan. 22. Irving scored 19 in the first quarter, which was his most scored in an opening period on his career (previous 16 points at LA Clippers on November 5, 2012). He also scored 15 in the fourth quarter, including 11 of the team s final 13 points. At the age of 20 years, 305 days old, Irving became the youngest player to ever score 40 points in a game against the Celtics. (Elias) TURN IT OVER: At Denver on Jan. 11 and at the Lakers on Jan. 13, the Cavs forced 22 turnovers in consecutive games for the first time since Nov. 11-13, 2005 (vs. Memphis 22, at Orlando 23). The last time Cleveland forced 22 miscues or more in two consecutive road games was Nov. 26-28, 1997 (at Philadelphia 24, at Charlotte 25). On the season, the Cavs have forced at least 20 turnovers 11 times and are tied for 5th in the NBA in opponent turnovers per game (15.6). 400 CLUB: The 106-104 victory over Charlotte on Jan. 4 gave Byron Scott his 400th victory of his NBA head-coaching career. Scott, who won 693 games as an NBA player (for the Lakers, Pacers and Grizzlies), joined Doc Rivers as the only current head coaches to win at least 400 games as both a coach and as a player. Miles became the first player in Cavaliers history to make eight triples off the bench after nailing a franchise record-tying 8-10 (.800) shots from behind the three-point line and finishing with a season-high 33 points on 11-15 (.733) shooting in 34 minutes. LeBron James (2/20/09 at MIL), Danny Ferry (2/13/1996 vs. CHA) and Wesley Person (2/17/1998 at PHI) also made eight three-pointers but did it in the starting role. The last Cavs player to score 30 or more points off the bench was Ramon Sessions on 2/16/11 (32 points vs. LAL). Just 15 days after Miles scored 33 points off the bench, Dion Waiters also poured in 33 points as a reserve on Jan. 14 against the Kings. PERFECTION: Versus Atlanta on Dec. 28, Cleveland shot a perfect 14-14 from the charity stripe. It marked the first time the Cavs shot perfect from the foul line since February 16, 1999, when Cleveland made 14-14 shots against Orlando. GETTING OFFENSIVE: Anderson Varejao scored at least 10 points and grabbed 15 or more rebounds, including five or more off the offensive glass, in 10 straight games from Nov. 18 Dec. 5. The only other NBA player to score 10 points and grab at least 15 rebounds with five offensive boards in 10 straight games (since the league began recording offensive rebounds in the 1973-74 season) was Moses Malone, who had a 12-game streak for the 1978-79 Rockets. (Elias) Here are a few more key notes on Varejao s 2012-13 season: Varejao is the first Cavs player in franchise history to have 10 straight games of at least 15 rebounds (Nov. 18 Dec. 5). The last player in the NBA to have 10 straight games with 15 or more rebounds was Kevin Love (10 games in November/December 2010). He averaged a career-high 14.1 points, 14.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 36.0 minutes per game. CANTON CHARGE UPDATE: The Canton Charge, the NBA Development League team owned and operated by the Cleveland Cavaliers, overcame a 21-point fourth quarter deficit, but ultimately fell in double overtime to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, 117-11, in South Dakota on March 23. The loss drops Canton to 27-18 on the season. Kyle Gibson finished with a team-high 24 points in 38 minutes, including 6-of-7 from three-point range and 21 points in the second half. Arinze Onuaku had his fourth double-double in his last five games and 17th of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes.
