St Joseph s and St Gregory s School Newspaper. One body, many parts. Year 1 and Year 2 at the borough music service Christmas Production at the Corn Exchange. Angel Express Production In this issue: We explore some of the trips, experiences and events across our school this term. December 2018 All copy written by children On Tuesday 4 th December some year ones and year twos went to the Corn Exchange in Bedford to perform Angel Express. Everyone from St Joseph s and St Gregory s were angels and had tinsel in their hair. Three year twos were Wise Men. There were lots of other schools there and we sang lots of songs. It was a long day, and our parents picked us up at 5 o clock! We took sandwiches in a brown bag and we had a little picnic inside the hall. It was fun to sing all the songs and to meet children from other schools. It was a bit scary to perform in front of an audience, but it was okay because some of our family were in the audience. Eagles, Parrots and Owls visit Eagles, Parrots and Owls! We went to a farm and we saw some eagles, parrots and owls. We watched a show about eagles. My class held some owls, there were two types of owls and a parrot that kept running away! My mum was an assistant and she held an owl. My favourite part was when I held an owl. By Lexie (Year 3) Year 3 Farm Visit Stop. Look. Listen and Think. After break time we went to the Upper Primary Site. Captain Safety was here. His friend was run over by a car and he was in hospital. His name was Silly Billy. Captain Safety told us to use the Green Cross Code. He taught us a song. It went like this Look right, look left, that s the way it goes. Stop. Look. Listen. Think. Use your green cross code. My favourite part was when Captain Safety drew his friend on the whiteboard. The whiteboard started moving and talking! Captain Safety Roadshow By Leticia (Year 2)
Year 2 s Deep Blue Sea At the start of the year our corridor transformed into an under- water sea life. We are learning about ripples and waves. We made under sea creatures for it to look like under the sea. We made jelly-fish, rainbow fish, sea turtles, dolphins, swordfish and sharks. We have been learning about Grace Darling, she saved people from a storm and she lived in a lighthouse. Why not come along and see our display in the Year 2 corridor? By Amelia (Year 2) Year 2 Ocean corridor Year 5 Imagine Themselves Atop Mount Olympus! In Year 5 we enjoyed Ancient Greece Day. A man came in and taught us about Ancient Greece for a whole day. It was very fun because we got to wear costumes like what Ancient Greek people wore and it looked very silly but it was great and we all enjoyed it even though everyone laughed at each other. We also had a little bit of Ancient Greek food. And we learnt that the Olympics were invented by the Ancient Greeks. We had so much fun that day we wish it would happen again. Year 3 and The Witch's Flower On Friday 9 th November Year 3 went on a school trip to the cinema. We saw a film called Mary and the Witch s Flower. It was a really fun movie but it was in a different language, with subtitles. There was a magic flower and it turned Mary into a witch. We were a little bit scared in the middle part because a witch got a boy and put him in a tube! By Holly and Naveha (Year 3) Trees for the Future I used a spade to dig a hole for the tree. Then we put tiny trees inside the hole. To help them we put plastic around the stem to protect the fragile stems from rabbits and to help them to grow. We all used the spade and our hands to plant the tree. I liked the bit when I got to name it and I named my tree Luca. By Luca (Year 2) Year 3 and Mr Fairhead enjoying the movie. Veronique planting away. A vue from the Year 5 cinema trip Isle of Dogs. In November Year 5 and a group of Year 6 children went on a cinema trip to vue cinema to watch The Isle of Dogs. We walked from school to the town cinema vue. It was so fun it was one of the most entertaining trips we had ever experienced. Everyone said that they loved the movie because we got to do something a little bit different. We also got to have some snacks such as love hearts (candy) and tangy toms (crisps). The movie was set in a city in Japan. We are looking forward to our next trip as a year group! By Alex, Saffiyah and Sophia (Year 5)
Year 2 Go Local for Geography Trip! After lunchtime we wore our coats to go for a walk in Queens Park. On the way we saw shops, mosques, the gudwara and houses. IT WAS VERY FUN! Everyone loved it! Then we had to go back to school. We heard birds singing and cars driving. Sometimes we saw cars so we sang our Captain Safety song. We used this on the zebra crossing. Cars had to wait for us to cross the road. I liked doing the Captain Safety song. By Ivan (Year 2) Queens Park. Year 3 and Reception are going to Rock You! This year Year 3 and Reception are doing a Christmas production called Hosanna Rock! The school was decorated for all the Christmas productions including Year 2s and Year 1s. The songs we performed were called Wild Beat and Hey Mr Miller. We were so excited to perform to the parents. It was very fun. It was a great experience. A year 4 said, I loved the trip I want to do it again. At the trip, when we were in our green room, the choir performed and everyone clapped and cheered. They really liked it. We really enjoyed the trip. The best bit was when we performed on the keyboards. We are all feeling more interested in music as a result of the trip. By Rachel and Louise (Year 4)
A Norfolk Adventure In November, Year 6 went on a trip to Sheringham on the east coast of England (near Cromer). The trip lasted for 3 days and 2 nights, starting on Tuesday 13 th to Thursday 15 th. They took a coach that lasted for about three hours; they took a break through half the journey to go to the toilet and had a small snack. The Year 6 were very excited upon their arrival. When they arrived, they put their luggage in the Youth Hostel s Lounge, after that, they went to two beaches and played, they had a super time. By Abigail, Jonathan and Ryan (Year 6) Year 6 on a trip to Sheringham. The Unique Barn Nativity Performance Year 4 recently went to watch a barn nativity at Clapham in December. They all took turns and a couple of people got changed into a different class like people from Butterflies got changed to Fireflies and Dragonflies so when people made their way there the other two classes did something else. At the nativity barn (which was somebody s house) we learnt that Zachariah and Elizabeth had a baby and had to name him John. They both knew that because when Zachariah went to the temple (he was a priest) he was praying and was visited by an angel. After that we watched the story of Mary and Joseph and their trip to Bethlehem where they received the gift of the baby Jesus. The nativity was performed by the people from the local church and also after we finished watching the nativity we got to stroke a real life donkey in a real barn. It was an excellent and special trip. By Amr (Year 4)
