11 ALL-AMERICANS EIGHT NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES BOB BLUM Voice of the Lady Rebels 26th Season Bob Blum, the Dean of West Coast Broadcasters, returns for his 26th season as the Voice of Lady Rebel Basketball. Blum will handle radio playby-play action for all home and select road contests during the 2010-11 season, including any postseason action, on KSHP 1400 AM and via a worldwide internet link on unlvrebels.com. With over 60 years of broadcast experience, the California legend s voice has graced broadcasts for Major League Baseball and National Football League professional sports franchises such as the San Francisco Giants, the Oakland Raiders (five years) and the San Diego Chargers (two years), in addition to college football and college basketball broadcasts in the San Francisco Bay Area. His production company, Robert J. Blum Productions, produces Las Vegas 51s Baseball of the Pacific Coast League (AAA affiliate) along with Lady Rebel Basketball and Rebel Baseball broadcasts. Blum has worked more UNLV games behind the microphone than any other sportscaster in school history, and was recognized for having broadcast his 1,000th career game at UNLV in the Lady Rebels contest at Wyoming on Feb. 4, 2006. For that reason, it was no surprise that the longtime Rebel supporter was voted into the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame s Class of 2000 as a distinguished contributor. More recently, Blum was named as the 2002 Nevada Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscaster and Sportswriter Association. In 1998, Blum was honored at the All-American Football Foundation Banquet as its recipient of the Lindsay Nelson Sportscaster Award. The award honors individuals for lifetime achievement in the field of sports broadcasting. ADAM CANDEE Play-By-Play UNLV ON THE AIR This past August, Blum released his first book, Started Talking at 11 Months... Still Talking. Copies are currently available online at Amazon.com, while Bob is always free to autograph a personalized copy. Adam Candee begins his third season at the microphone with the Lady Rebels and his fourth overall with UNLV athletics, sharing duties with Bob Blum on Rebel baseball as well. A former Las Vegas Sun sports reporter and columnist, he was the Lady Rebels beat writer in 2004 and 2005, and also reported extensively on the UNLV men s and women s golf programs. Candee also covered the Northern Arizona women s basketball program from 1999 to 2001 while working as a reporter and columnist at the Arizona Daily Sun in Flagstaff, Ariz. Candee s previous broadcasting experience includes two seasons as a play-by-play announcer with the NAU men s basketball team and two seasons as the lead play-by-play announcer for prep football and basketball on KVNA-AM in Flagstaff. He also worked for nearly two years as a news reporter and disc jockey at KMGN-FM and KAFF-FM in Flagstaff. He has received awards for his work from the Golf Writers Association of America, Nevada Press Association, Arizona Associated Press Managing Editors and Arizona Press Club. After attending high school in Las Vegas, Candee graduated from Northern Arizona with a degree in broadcast journalism and now lives in Henderson. For the eighth consecutive season, every Lady Rebel game can be heard on KSHP-1400 AM, with Bob Blum and Adam Candee sharing play-by-play duties. Women s basketball SID Mark Wasik will also be on select road broadcasts as a game analyst. Kathy on the Radio: Head coach Kathy Olivier will join Harvey Hyde, former UNLV head football coach and local radio host, this season on KSHP-1400AM for the Lady Rebel Update. The segment will air each Thursday night at 6:30 pm during the basketball season, beginning on Oct. 28. Olivier will also make be appearing regularly on the Lon Kruger Radio Show, which will be airing weekly during the season starting Nov. 2 from 7-8 pm on ESPN 1100 AM. The schedule for the Kruger show will be available at www. unlvrebels.com. The first episode for the Lady Rebels airs Thursday, Dec. 30 beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT. The UNLV women will have seven episodes dedicated to their program. KATHY OLIVIER - We re very proud that the UNLV Lady Rebels have been chosen to be featured for this year s program. It s a unique opportunity for us to showcase our university and our team. We have a great group of ladies and I m excited that our fans and viewers of The Mtn. will be able to see the growth of the program since I arrived here in Las Vegas two summers ago. Season Pass will follow the Lady Rebels from the first days of practice through the 2011 Conoco Mountain West Conference Basketball Championships. The show will also incorporate a player version of Coach em Up called This Is My Game, which features different players demonstrating a how-to on various on-court techniques. Additional web-only segments will be available throughout the season exclusively at www.themtn. tv. The Mtn. has been available to cable subscribers in the MWC footprint since it first aired in 2006-07 and is now available nationally on DIRECTV. In 2010-11, UNLV women s basketball will make at least four appearances on The Mtn. On Aug. 26, 2004, College Sports Television (CSTV) and the MWC announced a visionary partnership that revolutionized the college sports landscape. The landmark agreement was the first NCAA Division I football and men s basketball conference-wide deal for CSTV and provided the network exclusive rights to all conference events, including cable and satellite television coverage, national over-the-air and satellite radio, video-on-demand and online broadcast rights. A succession of events since the fall of 2004 has improved the television model, including CSTV s merger with Comcast SportsNet to create The Mtn. MountainWest Sports Network and CBS Corporation s purchase of CSTV. On Feb. 12, 2008, CBS incorporated CSTV s cable, broadcast and online activities into its world-famous brand. The Mtn. is co-owned by CBS C and Comcast SportNet. The relationship with Comcast SportNet also delivered another national broadcast partner in VERSUS. The MWC was the first exclusive college programming provider for the Comcast-owned entity, with football and both men s and women s basketball games. The CBS C/MWC partnership has guaranteed greater levels of television exposure for all league sports and has resoundingly met the fundamental goals of more exposure and preferred start times and dates. In the summer of 2006, the centerpiece of this historic relationship was realized with the launch of The Mtn. the first sports network dedicated to serving a single collegiate athletic conference. The Mtn. provides sports fans blanket coverage of MWC athletics across multiple sports, including football, men s and women s basketball, and men s and women s Olympic sports. Along with live games, fans get a comprehensive array of news, features and analysis about their favorite MWC teams and players. In 2009-10, more than 250 MWC events were shown live on The Mtn., CBS C and VERSUS. CBS C is currently available in over 38 million homes, while VERSUS is in more than 79 million households. 2010-11 UNLV WOMEN S BASKETBALL 15
