Family Park Broadway Street Park President Slashes Vital Coastal Funding Need Your Support and Help Soundside Park New Playgrounds Complete Beach Nourishment Shoreline Protection President Bush s proposed 2006 budget has eliminated any federal funds for Surf City, Topsail Beach and North Topsail Beach s shoreline protection programs. Surf City is currently in the Feasibility Phase of it s Nourishment Program and the Corps of Engineers will not even be allowed to complete this phase without federal funds being restored. It is vital that you make your voices heard in Washi n g ton. Plea se v i sit http://surfcity.govoffice.com and under Beach Renourishment link to Howard Marlowe for information on how y o u m a y h e l p. Inlet Dredging President Bush s proposed 2006 budget also slashes federal funding for channel maintenance which without this program will allow our inlets to close. The waters have already become too shallow in the New River Inlet and the U.S. Coast Guard has removed the navigational buoys. At this time the corps of engineers survey has found sufficient depth in New Topsail Inlet but without this maintenance program we believe this Inlet will become too shallow soon. Please contact your elected representative and request funds be restored for Coastal Dredging. Soundside Park: Town Council along with the former Surf City EMS Squad combined funds to install a new playground for all to enjoy at the Soundside Park. Broadway Park: Town Council authorized funds from the Recreation Budget for the creation of this second new park located at the corner of Highway 210 and Broadway Street. Family Park: Town Council authorized funds to replace the playground equipment at this park located on South Topsail. We have heard very positive comments about these three new parks and would like to encourage all our citizens to visit the parks.

Volunteers Needed for Boards & Committees Surf City Town Council invites residents to join their fellow citizens by becoming active on advisory boards. These boards are vital in shaping our community s future. Planning Board Economic Development Special Events Traffic and Safety Recreation Advisory Beach Renourishment Beautification & Appearance Water & Sewer Advisory Persons submitting an application or interested in learning more about these groups can contact the Town Clerk at 910-328-4131. You can pick up an application for these committees at the Surf City Town Hall or from the town s website. Check out the Town s website at http://surfcity.govoffice.com for all upcoming events, information, and meetings. Smoke Detector Assistance Program Assistance is offered for inspecting, testing, and replacing batteries of smoke detectors. For details call: Town of Surf City Fire Dept. at 328-0175. Escrow Account Information A new computer system was purchased last year, which included a module for tax billing. We are working with Pender and Onslow County tax offices to be able to download tax information and print our own bills. We are hoping to be able to incorporate your escrow information along with your tax bill information, if not with the 2005 bills then with the 2006 bills. When you receive your 2005 Property Tax bill please forward a copy to your escrow account manager for payment to ensure prompt payment of your property taxes. 2005 Property Taxes If you receive a notice in the mail for 2005 Property Taxes and you have sold that property, please call the Surf City Tax Office at 910-328-4131 to ensure that your information has been changed, so that the proper owners will be billed. Bank Drafts The new computer system is capable of handling bank drafts. We are working to find the most cost effective way for the Town to handle these drafts and how to handle the procedures. We are hoping this service will be available in the near future. Surf City Bridge Built in 1954, one of few operating swings bridges still in operation. Opens on the hour to boat traffic and for all commercial boat traffic. No Left Turn There is no left hand turn from NC Highway 210 (N. New River Drive) onto NC Highway 50 (Roland Ave.) from March 20th thru September 15th of each calendar year, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. Friday thru 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Update on Bike Path Bids have been awarded and the contracts are signed. As soon as weather is permitting the Bike Path construction from Mecklenburg Ave. north to the Surf City town limits will begin. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of April. Parking on Sidewalk or Bike Path Do not park your vehicle on the Sidewalk or Bike Path. This is for safe pedestrian movement and violators will be ticketed.
