ATHLETICS VICTORIA - JOIN. EXPERIENCE. BENEFIT 2015-16 SUMMER SEASON G U I D E WWW.ATHSVIC.ORG.AU ATHLETICS HOUSE, LEVEL 1, 31 AUGHTIE DRIVE, ALBERT PARK, 3206

Welcome to the Summer Guide and the launch of the 2015-16 Athletics Victoria summer calendar; This year we re excited to continue to offer multiple competition pathways: AV Shield (incorporating Zone v Zone) AV Knockout AV Schools competition Victorian championship events Major/ National programs (Further information to be provided) These pathways provide opportunities for: Club competitors School competitors Sub elite competitors Elite competitors JOIN. EXPERIENCE. BENEFIT In creating a calendar with multiple pathways for the entire membership there are a number of important factors to manage: Availability of suitable venues Availability of Victorian Officials to administer competition Avoid timetabling clashes with other events (eg. LAVic Regional and State competition) Provide a variety of competition It is very pleasing to confirm that with the assistance of Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Victoria we have come to an agreement on various dates so that all competitions can be scheduled with minimal clashes. It means that members will not be forced to choose and we are able to run our events with full access to the Victorian Officials. This assists with defining a clear athlete pathways. This guide sets out the five tiers of competition and provides an insight into what is on offer for the coming 2015-16 summer season. With clear competition pathways we can focus on other key areas to provide a better member and event experience.

JOIN. EXPERIENCE. BENEFIT The AV Shield competition which is open, accessible and inclusive has been a talking point amongst clubs and members. Last year the number of AV Shield rounds was reduced from 12 to 10 and was well supported. Ten rounds of AV Shield have been scheduled for the coming 2015-16 summer season and the majority of venues have been confirmed and booked. I advise the membership that the calendar might change after Williamstown Athletic Club formally wrote to Athletics Victoria asking that the below resolutions be discussed at the upcoming Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 29 July which may require your Club representatives to vote. Williamstown Athletic Club have asked for: 12 rounds of AV Shield For AV Knockout and Zone v Zone to be scrapped For the Victorian Junior and Open Championships to be held at the same time For some other type of competition to be provided by AV for those wanting to qualify for state and national events and finally For the survey information to be made public Hopefully this guide helps members understand the complexity involved with scheduling competition that caters for all of our members. Simultaneously reducing the impact on the Victorian Officials and resources without the need to charge more for membership fees, for what is a reasonably inexpensive sport to participate in. We have an active membership that is looking for more than has previously been offered and encourage all members to embrace the changes being made. In the coming weeks, further details will be provided about the competition rules, how you can you enter along with any changes that may be required. Thank you for continuing to support Athletics Victoria and we look forward to seeing you on the track this summer. Kind regards, Glenn Turnor Athletics Victoria CEO
