Rematch Time: In a rematch Riverside takes another shot at UC Irvine on Thursday at Honda Center. The Highlanders fell 63-43 last year. UCR is 0-2 all-time against UCI in the Big West Tournament. UC Santa Barbara senior Alan Williams joined an exclusive Big West club as eclipsed 1,000 rebounds on Jan. 15 versus CSUN. With 1,091 boards, Williams ranks third in conference history and trails only Cal State Fullerton s Tony Neal (1,115, 1981-85) and Long Beach State s T.J. Robinson (1,208, 2008-12). Earlier this season, Williams unseated Eric McArthur (904, 1986-90) for the distinction of all-time school rebounding king when he gobbled up 12 caroms against Seattle University on Dec. 4. The 6-3 guard leads the Big West and ranks No. 8 nationally in scoring with 20.6 points per game. He is also the nation s Coming off of a 9-22 season, UC Davis has set the program s Division I record for most victories (24). In doing so, the Aggies also became just the third team in Big West history to win single-digit games one year and 20 the next. Fresno State (7-20 in 1976-77, 21-6 in 1977-78) and Utah State (4-23 in 1981-82, 20-9 in 1982-83) are the others. The award is named in honor of Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. Aggie senior Corey Hawkins claimed Big West Player of the Year honors with Jim Les collecting Coach of the Year accolades. Gabe Vincent of UC Santa Barbara took home Freshman of the Year hardware while UC Riverside junior Jaylen Bland rounded out the marquee list as Newcomer of the Year. the conference s scoring champion for the second time in the last three seasons. Ranking No. 7 nationally in scoring, Hawkins has four career nods.
