San Francisco Fire Department 44 rd Annual FLAME Program 2018 Holiday Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament To All Athletic Directors and Coaches: The FLAME Program of the SFFD invites you to participate in the 44 rd 2018 Annual Holiday Invitational Boys Basketball Tournament. Before entering please consult with players to determine conflicts which may arise during this tournament s time frame. We are changing the format this year to try and consolidate the tournaments. Your team(s will be required to play multiple games in one day. 8 Team brackets may require teams to play 2 (two) games in one day and will be completed in no longer than two (2) days. Our 16 Team tournaments will be completed in may require teams to play 2 (two) games a day and no longer than 3 (three) days. We recognize that since our tournaments are offered during the Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations, it can be difficult to find eligible and available players to participate. Please check your all necessary schedules and make sure your players are committed for the entire day(s) required for the tournaments as we are not able to accommodate changes in the schedule. The FLAME schedules are final, but may change due to time and gym restrictions or availability. Any team that forfeits out of this year s tournament due to ineligible players or a insufficient number of eligible players will not be invited to future FLAME tournaments. 1. PARTICIPATION RULES a) All teams entered in the FLAME Tournament must be comprised only of players who are members of regular season teams that participate in scheduled leagues established and governed by school, parish, or geographical borders. Teams such as AAU, Nor-Cal, traveling, or other all-star teams are not eligible to participate in this tournament. b) Lower Division teams must be composed of players from the lower division only. Do not add upper division players to lower division teams for any reason. No player may play for more than one team in the FLAME tournament. c) Each participant will have to have a Parent or Guardian sign a Waiver of Liability and Release form in order to compete. (A copy of the Waiver is included and is also available on the FLAME website) d) All teams are guaranteed 2 (two) games.
2. ROSTER No more than 10 players per Team. All players must attend school in the grade in which they participate or in the grade immediately below (e.g. 4 th and 5 th grade students may participate in this tournament at the 5 th grade level.) Any Team using a player who is attending class in a grade above that in which he is participating will be disqualified. If necessary the tournament director may require a team roster or verification of birth and school attendance information re: Any team or individual participant in this tournament. Failure to comply with said request may result in tournament disqualification. 3. AWARDS We will be prepared to provide 10 awards per Team as follows: Each participant will receive a FLAME T-shirt. Individual Awards 1 st thru 4 th place (Based on 8-team min. bracket) Team Awards 1 st thru 4 th place (Based on 8-team min. bracket) 4. CONDUCT Coaches and their assistants will be held responsible for the actions of players, on and off the court and their supporters in attendance. Game officials after one warning, or at their discretion, may declare a match forfeited due to unsportsmanlike behavior by said coaches, assistants, players, and fans. No more than 2 coaches are to be in the bench area during the course of any game. 5. SUBSTITUTIONS Free substitution will be allowed in all grades. 6. PRESS DEFENSE RULES: PLEASE NOTE PRESS RULE CHANGES SINCE 2016: 4 TH GRADE - 8 TH GRADE (ALL DIVISIONS) NO PRESS AFTER 20 POINT LEAD, AND MUST FALL BACK TO DESIGNATED NO PRESS LINE UNTIL BALL CROSSES HALF COURT. WE WILL USE A RUNNING CLOCK AFTER 25 POINT LEAD. Additional press rules for each Division will be posted at the bottom of each Division s schedule if necessary.
7. TIMEOUT Five (5) timeouts are allowed per game. They may be taken at any time. One (1) additional timeout will be granted if overtime occurs. 8. CLOCK The clock stops on substitutions, timeouts, and all shooting fouls. Also, the clock will stop on every whistle in the last ten seconds of the first three quarters, and the last minute of the 4 th quarter and if needed, the overtime period 9. LENGTH OF GAMES 3 rd 6 th grades 6 minute quarters. 7 th 8 th Grades 7 minute quarters. Overtime 3 minutes. If the game is still tied after the overtime period, sudden death will occur. The first team to score two points will be declared the winner. 10. THREE POINT SHOTS 3-points shots are allowed in all games/all levels. 11. REFEREES, SCOREBOOK, AND SCOREBOARD OPERATOR Every game will have two referees, an official scorebook keeper, and a scoreboard operator.

If we do not reach maximum number of teams, the schedule will be adjusted accordingly, BUT THE STARTING DATES FOR THE OPENING ROUNDS WILL MOST LIKELY NOT BE CHANGED, ATHLETIC DIRECTORS AND COACHES-PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK THE FOLLOWING DATES AND TIMES TO CONFIRM THAT THE FLAME TOURNAMENT DATES DO NOT CONFLICT WITH VACATIONS AND/OR OTHER TOURNAMENTS, ETC.
