Rail: True STEWARDS: T.J.Davidson (Chairman), J.A.Shultz, C.G.Polglase & D.R.McLean (11u) RACE 1: Maiden Handicap 1180m: Havelka- A pre-race veterinary examination of the mare, which had a small amount of blood present in the mouth, found it suitable to race. Hung out prior to straightening. Laid inwards under pressure in the straight. Monterey Zar- Trainer G. Colvin was fined $50 under LR35(2) for the late declaration of B. McDougall as the rider of the gelding. Tajarrob- Rider J. Duffy was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the line. Let s Get Animal- Raced wide throughout. Raintime- Trainer G. Colvin was fined $50 under AR140A for presenting the gelding to the mounting yard without blinkers. She s All In- Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Walingi- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Dante Pierro- Showed no early pace. Kiwicod- Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. RACE 2: Class 1 Handicap 1400m: Dreaming of Biscay- Raced wide throughout. Chayanne- Stood flatfooted and lost significant ground (5L). Trainer D. Scott was advised the mare would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. She was further advised that should the mare re-offend consideration would be given to making the horse complete a series of trials before racing. Carried wider near the 500m. Skye And Me- Held up and unable to improve from the 250m and as a result went to the line without being fully tested. Steadied near the 100m when Dreaming of Biscay (B. Owen(a)) shifted in when not quite clear. B. Owen was advised to exercise more care.
First Rose- Showed no early pace. Smokey Ora- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight and why he shifted back to the inside of runners near the 200m, rider B. Fliedner explained that he was initially planning to improve to the outside of Skye And Me but nearing the 200m, when that runner commenced to shift out he elected to steady and shift back to the inside to avoid being carried wider. He added after shifting back to the rails he became badly held up when runners forward of him commenced to give ground and therefore went to the line without being fully tested. B. Fliedner s explanations were accepted. RACE 3: Open Handicap 1000m: Liberty Song- When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages and not pushing forward to lead, rider N. Souquet stated he was instructed to settle just off pace and after beginning well he elected to allow Gwenneth to cross him when it was obvious that the mare was being ridden hard to go forward and had superior early pace. While Stewards accepted his explanation N. Souquet agreed with Stewards that with the benefit of hindsight he should have pushed forward to hold Gwenneth wider on the track. Gwenneth- Trainer M. Beer represented by Ms C. McNamara was fined $50 under AR59A for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the mare when requested. RACE 4: Maiden Plate 1100m: Iron Stride- Trainer G. Dimitropoulos was fined $50 under LR35(2) for failing to declare S. Metcalfe(a) as the rider of the gelding by the prescribed time. Slow to begin. The nose roll fitted to the gelding shifted to the near side during the race. Irish Songs- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Bumped near the 150m. Prose N Cons- Withdrawn by Stewards at 3.12pm when it was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Trainer C. Heywood was advised the colt must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again. In regard to betting Stewards ordered all monies invested on Prose n Cons be refunded, and all successful wagers placed with bookmakers prior to 3.12pm be paid less the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket. Tipta Josie- Bumped near the 50m. 1 st : Irish Songs- 0 cent win, 1 cents place 2 nd : Moore Euros- 3 cents place 3 rd : Concours- 6 cents place Moore Euros- Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 150m. Concours- Bumped near the 50m. RACE 5: Class 1 Handicap 1100m: Find My Tail- Crowded on jumping and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Got its head up near the 500m while being restrained off heels. Shoplifter- Held up between the 300m and 150m.
Ethanicity- Rider C. Gravener(a) was fined $100 under AR144 when she failed to weigh in after finishing in fifth position. Apprentice Gravener was reprimanded under AR137(b) for failing to ride her mount out over the final three (3) strides. In assessing penalty Stewards did not believe that the finishing positions had been affected. Skiing Girl- Slow to begin. Laid inwards under pressure in the straight. Rider M. Cahill stated his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages before commencing to lay inwards in the straight. Due to the mare s tendency to lay in it was unable to improve into a run near the 150m between Ethanicity and Mookareena Nevada Dane- Rider B. McDougall(a) stated his mount hung outwards throughout and was never comfortable on the tight turning track. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. RACE 6: Class 3 Handicap 1180m: Tadween- Carried wider on the track near the 800m. Only Choice- Trainer K. Goldman was fined $50 under AR59A for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the gelding when requested. Bank of Erin- Carried wider on the track near the 800m. Laid inwards under pressure in the straight. Denim Street- Slow to begin. Lord Laurie- Taken back from a wide barrier to obtain cover. Reliant- Bumped heavily on jumping. Bon Anna- Bumped heavily on jumping. Pacific Tycoon- Bumped heavily on jumping. RACE 7: Open Handicap 1400m: Bring a Secret- Raced wide throughout. Mercurial Lad- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Steadied near the 1100m when Cha Cha King shifted in. Rider M. Cahill stated he was instructed to try and settle on the pace, but his mount raced very keenly and was inclined to hang outwards throughout. He added the gelding dropped the bit at the 600m and did not run on in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to be lame (2/5) in the off fore. Co-trainer P. Jones was advised a veterinary clearance must be submitted prior to the horse racing again. Ruthless Agent- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Rider M. Bell stated his mount travelled well throughout but disappointed in its failure to respond to his riding in the straight. He added in his opinion the gelding may be better suited when its runs are spaced. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities.
Dreams of Paris- Slow to begin (2L). Held up and unable to improve between the 400m and 200m. Raced in restricted room over the final 200m. Checked approaching the winning post after improving into insufficient running between Cha Cha King and Kentucky Flyer. Zarlu- Slow to begin (2L). Class Clown- Raced wide throughout. Rock On Zariz- Held up in the early part of the straight. RACE 8: Benchmark 58 Handicap 1400m: Orrstar- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and was steadied near the 1000m when awkwardly placed on the heels of Yawkey Way. Bumped near the 150m. Bondo- Raced wide throughout. Henson Park Bluebag- Steadied passing the 100m when crowded between Bravado Lass and Tearful Kitty. Sweettalkingwilly- Bumped near the 150m. A post-race veterinary examination found the gelding to have bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer T. Sutherland was advised that as this was the second occasion the gelding had bled it would now incur a lifetime ban from racing under the provisions of AR53A(5).
