Is there a pssibility f pushing back their registratin fee t a later seasn? Plicies need t be made in rder t cver future bards t track and pass n infrmatin which wuld represent a large amunt f wrklad in additin t what needs t be dne by sprts directrs/managers. Different sprts have different verhead csts and may warrant different plicies. It is suggested that it may make sense t get a refund after a set perid per sprt. We culd cnsider the pssibility t issue refund at the end f the seasn, depending if able t replace and have anther paying player. Further discussin is warranted. 1. Brief Sprts Updates Frm Directrs a. Small Ball Turnament Rules *Please nte: Blded items are new additins that were sent t the captains, but nt apprved by bard in initial vte.* 1) The Team Six (6) players will cmpete n each side; ther players will stand n the side f the curt t rtate in when needed. Teams are nt allwed t add players frm ther teams t play fr them at any time, even if they have fewer than 6 players. The minimum number f players a team can start playing with is tw (2). Players wh shw up after the game starts can nly be cycled in when a ball is caught and there are 5 r fewer players n the curt. Teams are encuraged t be at the gym 15 minutes prir t the start f their first match. In the event that a curt is running ahead f schedule, matches can start up t 5 minutes befre the scheduled time 2) Games/Matches Each team will play tw (2) r (3) matches per night, depending n the week Each match will last fr twenty (20) minutes, and teams will play as many games as they can in that time perid. Teams will stay n the same curt until the ten (10) minute mark, when they will switch sides. 3) The Object f Ddgeball The bject f Ddgeball is t eliminate players n the ppsing team by getting them OUT. 4) Definitins LIVE BALL: A ball that has been thrwn THROW: defined as when a player wh has pssessin f the ball thrws (nt taps, kicks, rlls, places, etc) a ball tward the ppsing side. A ball must be released befre the whistle t cunt as a thrw POSSESSION: while ultimately a ref s call, is defined as the ability t exert cntrl ver a ball. This is the ability t blck, thrw, and drp a ball at will. DEAD BALL: A ball that has tuched the flr, hit an ppsing player THEN hit the flr, hit anther LIVE ball, hit a player that is already ut, hit an fficial, r hit any ther fixture utside f the playing field (wall, ceiling, basketball hp, etc). CATCH: a LIVE ball that is in pssessin f a player where the player is in bunds (please see belw the sectin titled THE GAME/BOUNDARIES fr an explanatin f being in bunds). Nte: Trapping a ball against the flr is NOT a catch 5) A player is defined as OUT if: The player is hit belw the shulders while standing upright with a LIVE ball that eventually dies. Clthing is cnsidered an extensin f the bdy (i.e. if a ball brushes a player s t-shirt and the ball dies, they are OUT). The LIVE ball that they threw is caught by the ppnent befre it is DEAD The player crsses the center r bundary lines as defined by Sectin 8 6) A player is defined as IN if: The player is nt OUT A teammate catches a LIVE ball and the player is the first ne t rtate in. Nte that players can be cycled in nly when there are 5 r fewer players n the curt.
7) The Game/Opening Rush The Small Ball Turnament games begin by placing the five (5) ddgeballs alng the center midcurt line. Teams will alternate which side starts with three (3) balls and which starts with tw (2) between each game. On the Back Curt, prir t the first game f each match, a cin tss r Rck/Paper/Scissrs will determine which team starts n which side. Players then take a psitin behind their end line. Fllwing a whistle by the head ref, tw players frm each team rush the centerline t retrieve nly the balls t their right f the center f the curt. Players cannt crss the center line t grab a ball. Ding s will immediately result in that player being OUT. Once a ball is retrieved, the ball must be taken behind the back line (this is called clearing the ball) befre it can be legally thrwn as a LIVE ball. Clearing must be dne by a player; the player cannt bunce the ball against the back wall back t him/herself t cunt as clearing Once the balls have been cleared, all players must be inside the bundaries and gameplay can begin 8) The Game/Bundaries During play, all players must remain within the bundary lines If any player crsses the bundary lines (back r side lines) with ne r mre than ne WHOLE bdy part, he/she is OUT. That is if ne player s whle bdy part is cmpletely utside f the curt and tuches anything ther than a ball, then the player is OUT. If any player steps ver the center line, he/she is OUT. By stepping ver the center line, it is understd that a player is OUT if any part f the bdy tuches anything past the center line ther than a ball. A player is in if they are ON the line and d nt crss it. 9) The Game/Timing There are n time limits n each individual game per match, nly an verall match time limit f twenty (20) minutes. During the Game: time-uts, 5-secnd cuntdwn Each team is allwed ONE time ut per game ONLY the captain can signal t the head t assistant referee The time ut is NOT in effect until the referee signals fr it The clck will STOP during each time ut If a team signals fr a secnd timeut in a single game and play is stpped, then ne player frm that team will have t leave the curt; in ther wrds, a player is OUT Only referees are allwed t call additinal timeuts. T keep gameplay mving, referees will initiate a 5-secnd cuntdwn, at the end f which the team with the majrity f balls must thrw a ball r balls t n lnger have the majrity. The ball must be live as it crsses center curt t cunt as a thrw. Majrity Rule: Depending upn hw many balls a side has when the cuntdwn starts, this will determine hw many balls that team needs t thrw (ex: if a team has 3 balls, they need t thrw 1; if they have 4, they thrw 2, if they have all 5, they must thrw a minimum f 3) The majrity rule is NOT in effect when a team has nly ne player remaining and that individual has the majrity f balls. In this
scenari, the lne player nly needs t thrw ne (1) ball befre the end f the cuntdwn. The cuntdwn will g: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, WHISTLE. Failure f the team with the majrity f the balls t thrw the required number by the whistle blw will result in a player frm that team being called OUT by the referee. That captain decides wh is OUT f the peple wh had a ball. If nbdy had pssessin f a ball, the captain may pick any player. Ball cllisins (r ther unfreseen interference) that prevent thrwn balls frm crssing the center line while live may cunt as thrws and stp a cuntdwn at the ref s discretin Ending The Game 10) The Game/Cycling In In this turnament a game will nly end when all players n ne side are eliminated; then the next game will begin. When a member f yur team catches a ball thrwn by yur ppnent, a member f yur team wh is OUT can cme int the game. Players will rtate int the game in the same rder they were called ut. A team can never exceed 6 players n the curt. Players waiting t rtate in cannt interfere with the game in any way. When a member f a team is injured and wuld be cnsidered IN, a player wh is OUT may substitute in fr said injured player. The substituting player must be the next ne in the rtatin. Substitutins can nly be made when play has stpped. N ther substitutins will be made f injured players. 11) The Game/Balls A team hlding the majrity f balls must thrw enugh balls t n lnger have the majrity (please refer t Majrity Rule under Sectin 9) Pinching the ball (where a player squeezes rubber t rubber inside the ball, r exerts excessive squeezing deemed clse enugh t pinching by a ref) while THROWING at an ppnent will nt be permitted. If a referee sees a player pinching, that ref can issue a warning. A player hit by a pinched ball thrwn at them is IN. A secnd pinching call results in an OUT fr that player. The impacted player may be caught back int the same game. Pinch BLOCKING (where a player blcks by squeezing rubber t rubber r excessive squeezing deemed clse enugh t pinching by a ref) will nt be permitted. If a referee sees a player pinch blcking, a warning is issued. A secnd warning results in an ut fr that game. The impacted player may be caught back int the same game. 12) Scenaris If a LIVE ball hits ne teammate, then bunces ff that teammate and hits anther, and the ball dies BOTH teammates are OUT If a LIVE ball hits a ball that a player is hlding, bunces ff that ball and hits anther teammate(s) and the ball dies then that (thse) ther teammate(s) are OUT If a LIVE ball hits a ball that a player is hlding, bunces ff that ball, is caught by anther teammate and then it dies then the persn wh threw the ball is OUT, and ne player can cycle IN depending n the number f teammates n the curt. If a LIVE ball hits a ball that a player is hlding, bunces ff that ball withut kncking the first ball ut f the player s pssessin, and then it dies neither the thrwer r blcker are OUT.
If a LIVE ball hits a ball that a player is hlding, and kncks that ball ut f their pssessin, then that player is OUT. Players are nt ut if they drp a ball first t catch a LIVE ball thrwn by an ppnent player. A LIVE ball deflected ff a teammate can be caught by anther teammate, resulting in the persn that threw the ball being OUT, and ne player being cycled in depending n the number f teammates n the curt. A LIVE ball caught by a player wh is in the air will nly be cnsidered a CATCH if said player lands with at least ne ft fully in bunds befre ging ut f bunds. 13) Cde f Cnduct HEADSHOTS: A player wh thrws a ball that hits an ppsing player abve the shulders, while that player is upright, will be called OUT. HIGH BALLS: Fr this turnament, there will nt be autmatic warnings given t players fr a ball thrwn abve shulder level. If a player is seen cnsistently thrwing balls abve shulder level then the referees can issue a warning in that scenari. Shuld said player thrw anther high ball fllwing that warning, they will be called OUT. NO KICKING BALLS: Flagrant kicking f balls is nt allwed n the ddgeball curt. A player that kicks a ball during a game will be called OUT. SHAGGING: When players are shagging a ball that is ut f bunds, they must place the ball in bunds n the side f the curt in which the ball is ut. The ball must be placed n the grund and can be mved in a frward rlling mtin t bring the ball back int play. Balls cannt be taken frm the ppsing sides f the curt and thrwn t players. The head referee has the final say n all rulings. 14) Sprtsmanship Big Apple Ddgeball strives t create an inclusive envirnment fr all participants. All players are expected t cnduct themselves with the highest level f sprtsmanship Sprtsmanship is defined is: fairness and respect fr ne s ppnents, teammates, and referees, as well as exhibiting graciusness in winning r lsing. Threatening language, verbal threats, r slurs against race, religin, ethnicity, sexuality, r gender, will nt be tlerated under any circumstances. In the gym r at any league functin, any player wh deliberately tries t harm r intimidate anther player thrugh use f frce, threatening language, r verbal threats will be subject t league cnsequences including warnings, ejectins frm the gym, suspensins frm games, and expulsins frm the league withut any refund f his r her paid player fee. The level f penalty impsed is that the sle discretin f the Bard and will be based n the severity f the infractin, as decided by the Bard. It is expected that all players will be allcated equal playing time per day f play. Captains are respnsible fr starting players an equal number f games (as even as pssible) per match per night fr this turnament (as we d in ur regular seasns and turnaments). N player may be seated ut twice befre anther player has been seated ut at least ne game.
