Usually, yu can enlist parents t assist with this as well. The visiting team is respnsible fr raking the field after a game. Fr inter-twn games, the Hst team shuld expect t d bth prep and clean up, but the visiting is certainly welcme t help.! Managers must decide n game cancellatins. Cancellatins require the fllwing actins: Cntact the Umpire r Umpire Crdinatr t advise f cancellatin Cntact yur team using the league website it s easy and everyne is cvered. It is the respnsibility f the Hme Team Manager t schedule a make-up game with the visiting team manager. (Lk at the Facilities Master Schedule t make sure fields are available nt just the team schedules). The Scheduling Crdinatr and Umpire Crdinatr need t be infrmed f date and time f makeup game.! Game Times: N inning shall start after 2 hurs frm the first pitch (games are still expected t be cmpleted as clse t 2 hurs as pssible). The new inning starts immediately at the cmpletin f the previus inning. It is suggested that caches begin t plan at the 1 ½ hur mark t determine the remaining number f innings, d nt wait until 1:58 t determine the final inning. (Examples: if the 4 th inning is cmpleted at the 1:50 mark, the 5 th inning is the unlimited and final inning; if the 4 th inning is cmpleted at the 1:30 mark, the 5 th inning shuld be a regular inning and the 6 th will be played as the final inning.)! Evening Games: Caches and Umpires need t cnsider darkness in planning when the last inning will be played; we gain daylight as the seasn prgresses. Adults shuld make a reasnable decisin, especially when the umpires are yuths, keeping SAFETY as the first cncern.! Innings 1 thrugh 5 run limit: Minrs = 4; Majrs = 5. Nte: If the bases are laded, 3 runs have scred and smene hits a triple, finish the play, but nly scre the 4 th run fr Minrs r the 5 th run fr Majrs (the cntinuatin play ).! There is n run limit in the last inning. This ges fr bth teams, nt just the trailing team.! If the umpire ntifies bth caches the game will be less than 6 innings, unlimited runs are allwed in the last inning.! A 10 run lead after 4 cmplete innings, r 3½ if the hme team is leading, cnstitutes a full game. Yu may cntinue t play. Yu will nt cntinue t scre the game, but the pitching innings cunt. The umpires may leave.! Limit yur dugut t players and caches.! Keep the players in the dugut during games.! Meals are nt allwed in the dugut. Teams are asked t clean up their dugut after each game.! The hme team must prvide 2 brand new wrapped game balls.! Screbks must be kept fr every game by bth teams. In the event f a disagreement, Hme teams bk will be fficial.! Hme Team Managers are respnsible fr entering game results n the website. Bth teams shall enter attendance and pitching stats n the website as sn as pssible, but n later than prir t the next game. Pitching stats include innings pitched and pitch cunt (if available). Offense! Everyne hits. A 12 player rster means yu ll have a 12 player batting rder.! Any player n the rster that arrives late will be inserted at the end f the batting rder and minimum play time will be waived. Late is cnsidered after the #1 batter is up fr the 2 nd time. Players that arrive late will nt be allwed t pitch in that game.! There is n pinch-hitting in a lineup. If a player leaves the game early r is injured, skip that spt in the batting rder.! Yu may pinch run nly in the case f an injury.! Bunting is allwed (but nt stressed in the Minrs).! Slash Bunting is strictly prhibited at all levels.! Caches will act as the 1 st and 3 rd base caches.! The n-deck hitter must warm up in the caged in area f the dugut at the Brkline Twn field, and

Please be careful and stress t the kids that nly 1 player can be in that area at ne time.! Umpires are instructed t use judgment if a player des nt slide at hme plate. If in the umpires judgment there was a play at the plate and the player did nt slide, the player shall be called ut. The batter must vacate the batter s bx. Base Running - Majrs! Base runners may lead r steal at anytime at his/her wn risk in accrdance with Cal Ripken rules.! Drpped 3rd strike: In all situatins in accrdance by Cal Ripken rules. Base Running - Minrs! Base runners must remain in cntact with the base until the ball crsses hme plate.! If a player leaves the base befre the ball crsses hme plate, as determined by the umpire: - If the runner successfully reaches the next base, he/she will be sent back t the riginal base with n penalty. - If a play is made and the runner is called ut, the ut will stand.! Stealing 2 nd and 3 rd is permitted at anytime.! If a base runner steals 2 nd r 3 rd and the ball is ver thrwn t the base they are attempting t steal, runners may nt advance n the ver thrw.! Stealing f hme is allwed with 2 strikes ONLY in the fllwing scenaris: - stealing hme is allwed n passed balls at the catcher - stealing hme is allwed if the return thrw frm the catcher is mis-handled r verthrwn and the ball leaves the mund circle. - nce the pitcher cleanly receives the ball frm the catcher the runner cannt advance hme as in a delayed steal. - Until there are 2 strikes n the batter, stealing f hme is nt permitted in any situatin. Pitching:! Pitchers are allwed t pitch 6 innings in a week. A week starts n Mnday and ends n Sunday.! If a pitcher pitches 3 innings r mre in a game, he/she must be rested fr tw days, able t pitch again n the 3 rd day. A new week des nt negate this rule. Example: Pitcher pitches 3 innings n Sunday his next day t pitch is Wednesday.! Any prtin f an inning pitched cunts as 1 inning. Example: If yu replace a pitcher mid inning, bth pitchers are charged with ne inning. One pitch cnstitutes an inning pitched.! Majrs: Pitchers may nt return t the game and pitch again after stpping pitching. This includes the starting pitcher.! Minrs: Pitchers may nt return t the game and pitch again after stpping pitching. This includes the starting pitcher. There will be a rlling 4 inning maximum in cnsecutive games. If a pitcher pitches 2 innings in game 1, he/she can pitch 2 innings in the next game, if he pitches 3 innings in game 1, the pitcher must wait the tw days and can nly pitch 1 in the next. Still 6 innings ttal per week.! A pitcher wh hits 2 batters in the same inning shuld be replaced at the batters manager discretin.! Innings pitched shall be reprted with scres t ensure the health f the kids is being mnitred. Pitcher innings t be reviewed by League Crdinatrs t ensure prper pitcher develpment is taking place. If issues arise, the respective Bards will institute a pitch cunt max per game.

Example: pitcher pitches 4 innings in Mnday s playff game he can pitch 2 innings n Tuesday and then 4 mre n Wednesday.! MAJORS RULE: Balks: Balks will be called in Majrs. An umpire will warn a pitcher and explain the infractin n a first vilatin. Subsequent vilatins will be enfrced accrding t the fficial baseball Balk rules. Nte that we will encurage umpires t have a little leniency. Defense:! Minrs managers are encuraged t assign players t as many defensive psitins as pssible during the seasn. The primary factr when assigning psitins is safety. It isn t pssible t satisfy every request but with practice kids ften surprise caches.! We have FREE substitutin in the field. Every kid MUST play at least 2 innings in the field, but we strngly encurage that yu get them at least 4 per game. A gd rule f thumb is that n player spends mre than 2 innings in the dugut.! MINORS RULE: a team shuld field 10 players. The cach may place that extra player in the shrt field psitin r have fur equally placed utfielders. Yu may nt place the extra player in the infield.! MINORS RULE: One cach may stand in the utfield with their players t prvide instructins. The cach may nt stand in the infield. Umpires:! Teach players respect fr the umpire by example.! There will be 1 Hme plate and 1 field umpire at each game.! The umpires are ff duty nce a game is fficial. Example: a game is fficial after 4 innings (due t the mercy rule) and yu d like t play anther inning. Yu may play but the umpire is nt bligated t stay.! The infield fly rule is in effect fr Majrs. Whether the pp fly is rutinely playable is an umpire s judgment.! Caches may nt argue any call with the umps. Yu may take up issues with the Umpire Crdinatr wh will cmmunicate with the umpire ffline and never during the game.! Bth caches are required t meet the umpire at hme plate tgether prir t the start f the game t determine the fficial start time and review lcal rules. (i.e. ball under fence calls, etc)! Any time a cach requires clarificatin abut rules, he shuld request time ut frm the umpire, and invite the ther cach t meet with the umpire at hme plate.! Teams are t use this plicy t avid frfeits r reschedules due t the knwn absence f rstered players fr scheduled games. The intent is nt t imprve a team s rster n a regular basis by using Call Up players. Players The HBCR Bard will make a list f eligible Call Up players available t all Head Caches. Practices Call Up players shuld be allwed t practice with the team requesting the call up whenever pssible. Games 1) Call Up players shall nt limit rstered players pprtunities t play mre desirable psitins. 2) The Head Cach shall ensure that Call Up players are in the batting rder. 3) Call Up players shall be given an pprtunity t play in the field. Pitching Call Up players shall nt pitch under any circumstance. The Minr t Majr distance is different. There is a requirement t hld runners n base in Majrs that des nt exist in Minrs. Prtecting the player is mre imprtant than expsure. In shrt, have yur rstered players ready t pitch. Obligatins 1) Call Up players must attend their regular team event if there is a cnflict with a call up request unless released by the regular team Head Cach. 2) Head Caches shall ntify Call Up player/parents as sn as pssible if they will nt be needed after they have been asked t attend a game. 3) If ntified n game day that the Call Up players is n lnger required, the Call Up players parents may chse nt t have their child participate if the apprpriate number f rstered players have becme available. 4) If ntified prir t game day that the Call Up players is n lnger required, the Head Cach is nt required t utilize the Call Up player but may d s at his discretin. 5) Head Caches will ntify bth the Majrs and Minrs crdinatr when a Call Up player is invited t play in a game, and whether they accept r decline the invitatin. The intent is t track the player usage and prvide sme balance t all eligible Call Up players. Advice / Opinins / Thughts! Yu will need t have a minimum f 3 pitchers t survive the average 6 inning game. They typically shw a nticeable drp ff after 2 innings. Ideally, yu can use yur pitchers 2+2+2 r 1+2+2+1 it is rare, that a pitcher can g 3 innings at the Minrs level. Returning a starting pitcher is nt allwed in majrs r minrs.! Yu will want t develp a few mre pitchers. Minrs managers are encuraged t use new r inexperienced pitchers in the third inning prvided the player can field the psitin. Yu re encuraged t ignre yur wn/lss recrd and t make use f the 4 run rule.! Develp a minimum f 3 catchers. In Minrs the catcher will chase as many pitches t the backstp as they ll catch.! Minimize game delays f any kind.! Keep in mind that ur #1 gal is t teach the kids baseball. It s nly natural fr these games t becme cmpetitive. Winning games is nt ur primary gal.! Managers are encuraged t wrk tgether and t be respectful f game situatins. Sme Examples: Yu have an 8-0 lead this is a gd time t give ne f yur weaker pitchers an inning r tw. It s difficult t please every kid, but these are great pprtunities t try kids in different psitins. Billy really wants t catch, yu re nt s sure he s ready nw is a gd time. Yu have a 12-2 lead this is a bad time t bunt r steal bases. If yu have a runner n 3rd and there s a passed ball. Yu may want t hld the runner. This helps t teach the kids sprtsmanship and respect. It s als a gd pprtunity fr the batter t drive in a run with a hit. Teams are encuraged t practice tgether when pssible. If ne team has a practice frm 5-6:30 and anther frm 6:30 t 8 Cmbine them. One team culd have the cage fr 45 min. while the ther has the field, then switch. After 1 ½ hurs, yu culd scrimmage each ther. Yu can actually get mre field time this way AND finish earlier Wrk tgether, share ideas, have fun!
