Volleyball is the ultimate team sport in which every moving part relies on the next. We have worked extensively on our relationships and trust off the court, and we have seen great improvements within the dimensions of the volleyball court because of this work. We are thrilled and excited to get the season started, and WE will be keeping our focus on ways to improve and stay united towards a vision that is greater than any one person on our roster. ---Lizzy Stemke Head Coach Coaching Highlights Year-by-Year Lizzy STEMKE Sixth Season Earned first win over in-state rival Georgia Tech in 2014 Guided Georgia to NCAA Tournament in 2013, first time since 2004 2013 s 22-10 record best for Georgia since 1994 Earned ranked win over Kentucky in 2013 Defeated LSU in 2012, first time Georgia won in Baton Rouge since 2001 Brittany Northcutt: All-SEC in 2013 Lauren Teknipp: CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2013 Jasmine Eatmon: SEC All-Freshman Team in 2012 The Stemke File Year Overall Conf. Notes (cont.) DONOVAN, LOBENSTEIN EARN TOURNAMENT HONORS For the second-straight weekend, Meghan Donovan and Maddie Lobenstein earned All-Tournament Team awards after great showings in the Beantown Challenge. Donovan set out a balanced attack on offense to help Georgia hit.312 for the weekend while Lobenstein provided 40 kills and 32 digs. GEORGIA WITH BEST START SINCE 2010 Sporting a 6-0 record, Georgia is off to its best start since 2010 and best under head coach Lizzy Stemke. In program history, the Bulldogs have had four seasons start off with higher records than 6-0: 1982 (25-0), 1980 (10-0) and 1993/2007 (8-0). GEORGIA RANKED HIGH IN SEC STATS Two weekends into the season Georgia continues to rank high among SEC teams in stats. As a team, the Bulldogs are first with a.131 opponent hitting mark, second with 1.86 service aces per set and third with a.287 hitting percentage. Individually, six players are ranked in five different statistical categories, the highest going to Cassidy Anderson, as she is first with 0.64 aces per set after totaling 14 this year. Caroline Ostman is second with a.439 hitting mark, bumped up from her.407 clip in the Boston trip. Meghan Donovan is seventh with 10.18 assists per set while one of her weapons, Maddie Lobenstein, is ninth with 3.57 kills per set. Georgia has two players ranked in blocks, as Majesti Bass 1.21 per set is seventh and Desiree McCray has 1.00 per set for 11th. ANDERSON SERVING UP ACES After leading the team and ranking in the top 10 in the SEC in service aces last season, Cassidy Anderson continues to have a strong game at the service line. The Kentucky native has posted at least one ace in each match, including a career-high six against Savannah State in the opening weekend. The six-game streak is the second longest in her career, as she opened the 2015 season with at least one in the first seven games. LOBENSTEIN CONTINUES WHAT SHE STARTED IN 2015 After a breakout year in 2015, Maddie Lobenstein continues to put up stellar numbers in 2016. Originally from Wisconsin, Lobenstein has had three double-doubles this season, including one last weekend in a comeback win over Boston College. In the match versus the Eagles, the outside hitter also tallied the first 20-kill performance of her career. BASS SETS CAREER BEST IN BEANTOWN CHALLENGE Majesti Bass is making her presence known on the court, and setting career-best numbers on the way. In the five-set win at Boston College, Bass put up a career-high eight kills and 10 blocks, which is tied for the third highest blocking total by a player this season in the SEC. The Georgia native went on to boast a new personalbest hitting percentage the next day, hitting.455 in the sweep of Siena. ACADEMIC HONORS FOR VOLLEYBALL The Bulldogs were putting in work in the classroom as well last year. Four of this year s returners were named to the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll for having a 3.0 GPA or higher: Amanda Dachs, Kendall Kazor, Elle McCord and Megan Spencer. All six of the returning sophomores were also honored, as their 3.0 or higher GPA had them among the honorees of the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. SIX GAMES TO BE NATIONALLY TELEVISED Georgia volleyball will have six matches nationally televised during the 2016 season. Five of the 18 conference matches will be on the SEC Network, as Georgia s first televised match will come on September 21 when the Bulldogs travel to Kentucky. The SEC Network will broadcast four road matches during the month of October, including the contests at South Carolina (Oct. 7), Auburn (Oct. 12), Florida (Oct. 23) and Arkansas (Oct. 30. Ramsey Center will get its chance to shine on national television when ESPNU comes to Athens and airs the match against Florida on November 2. OLYMPIC BULLDOGS Two former Bulldogs represented their home countries on the biggest international stage at the 2016 Olympics. Alexandra Oquendo (2002-05) played indoor volleyball for Puerto Rico while Britta Büthe (2007) took to the sand to represent Germany. With those two, Georgia has had three former players compete in the Summer Olympics, as Elizabeth Reid (2010-11) joined Great Britain in the 2012 London Games. UP NEXT Georgia is back at the Ramsey Center next week, taking on Florida A&M on Tuesday before hosting the Bulldog Invitational with Bethune Cookman, McNeese State and South Alabama over the weekend. A Trio of Spencers It s three of a kind for the Spencers, as Megan is a triplet with two sisters, Sarah and Emily. All three played volleyball at some point in their life, as Megan attributes her sisters to pushing her to her on-court success. On Course for Laney A strong golfer, Laney has been playing since she was little. My dad loves golf, so being able to go out and play with him was always fun. Laney says golf has helped her handle pressure situations in volleyball games.
