ADULT PROGRAMS & LEAGUES MELROSE See Page 30 for Pickleball Offerings! What is Pickleball? Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. It is a fun and exciting (and addictive) racquet sport, which differs from tennis by utilizing a court a third the size of a tennis court. It is primarily played as a doubles sport which means each person only has to cover about ten feet of court side-to-side. The rules are few & simple and the game utilizes an underhand serve, perforated plastic ball and no-smash zone, seven feet in front of the net which allows for an easy-to-learn sport. Players range up to the 80 s as placement is more effective than power. Description All beginners are welcome! This is a fun social league where skill levels vary in ability. Paddles and balls will be provided. Each court has a max of six participants assigned to it which allows for players to rotate in fairly quickly. Games typically last between 10 15 minutes before rotation. Games are almost always played as doubles competition. Sneakers are required that do not leave any marks on the floor. The sport is played with wooden or composite paddles that are about twice the size of a ping pong paddle and a perforated plastic ball similar to a wiffle ball. New players generally pick up the game quickly and will be competing the first session. In partnership with the Melrose Council on Aging Melrose Recreation Dept.
