Forest Allambie MSWA Issue 256, November 2018 Weekly Newsletter Fairies GAME 11 RECAP What a great weekend - 10 teams played and only 3 games lost! Our latest newsletter includes reports from five of our softball teams: the Fever, Fairies, Foxes, Freckles and Fallin' Angels. Enjoy the read. One more newsletter left for 2018 then the big break over the summer school holiday. INSIDE THIS EDITION: Results from Round 11, 1 December 2018 Round 12 games, 8 December 2018 Match reports and photos Our sponsors Committee outcomes

Round 12 Games, 8 December 2018 All teams are playing in the final game of 2018. Five of our teams are umpiring: Foxes, Firebirds, Firestorms, Fusion and Fever. Only 1 game left to play in 2018 before the long summer break. Good luck to all teams!

Fever - C grade Fever vs Comets, won 18-3 What an amazing day to play Softball. Fever Played exceptionally well and were very thankful to the following players that played up for us. A huge thank you to Emma Haynes from Falcons, Jane Mackenzie from Firestorm and Robyn Ladd from Fusion. Without these players Fever would not have been able to play so we thank you all so much. We were against the beautiful young Comets today who played so well and have improved so much since the first time we played them. These young ladies will be a team we will all need to watch out for in future games. Fever had the best game with some great fielding, batting, stealing. Great catching by both Jen and Deb and awesome pitching by Jane. Our new player Kelly played exceptionally well at 3rd base and TC was on fire at 1st base. Emma Haynes caught an awesome out at right field and managed to get the runner out running back to 2nd base so a fantastic double play. Sab and Janie entertained the team with their coaching and Shelby did a great job at scoring. A great game all round. Janie :-)

Fairies - Teeball Fairies vs Sparrows, won 39-32 A great day for softball but it turned into the Battle of Balaclava! We started 3 down due to injury, illness and marriage (not the player!). With one outfielder we needed our infield to field well and CC showed the way with some quick thinking to tag a runner headed to first. Our first bat saw a great team effort to score 17 runs. Everybody was hitting strongly. Eloise and Chelsea both hit well for three hits each. We then lost CC to illness and we were down to six players! In the next innings Emily recorded two outs with some quick fielding and throwing. Sophie and Harper hit twin doubles in the second and we extended our lead. In the third inning Zoe s fearsome drive struck one of the opposition players who unfortunately took no further part in the game so now it was 5 vs 6! We held on to our lead to record a great win. Hopefully we ll be back to full strength soon!!! Peter Davis Manager FRONT PAGE TEAM

Foxes - Division 3 Foxes vs Rockets, won 11-6 Today we played against the Rockets and this was our very first game with the entire team playing! Our game was a great game. We all were stealing bases and running fast. We were listening very well to our coach. Some highlights of the game were Charleigh s amazing pitching and Cookie s excellent hit that took her to second base. We all did well encouraging each other and supporting each other. With such awesome team work it was exciting to be rewarded with a 11:8 win. Great game girls! Captain Marie

Important announcement More photos from Round 11 from MWSA 1. This Saturday A Grade games will be played using the new Fully Loaded softball concept. Rules will be circulated later this week to each team. 2. We will have a working bee on Saturday 15 December 2018 at 11.00am. Each club needs to provide at least 2 volunteers (the more we get the shorter the time volunteers will be needed for). Each volunteer should bring a shovel and / or rake. 3. Whilst the volunteers that set up the diamonds will address, we need to ensure that each club / team places all shades well away from the batter on each diamond. For safety perspectives, it should be 3 or 4 metres back from the foul line and closer to 1st base / 3rd base than the home plate. Please also ensure that all shades are pegged down. 4. We will start playing on diamonds 5 to 8 when we return in the new year. The 2nd Canteen will be operational from then and the roster will include duties there aswell. 5. NOTE FOR ALL REP PLAYERS: The 2018 Rep Dinner is on Saturday 16 December 2018. All rep players should register to attend the dinner at the grounds this coming Saturday.

Freckles Modball B Freckles vs Disco Ducks, lost 25-41 Written by Charlotte Merrin, Freckles captain, Round 11. Congratulations Freckles! With 3 players short, we had an outstanding game, even though the Disco Ducks just made the mark in the win. There was some great batting from Abbie, Mariana and Lauren. We had some phenomenal fielding and pitching from Olivia. Darcie and Sophie were outstanding at catcher and Aurelia ran strongly between bases. Olivia - You were awesome at first base. Keep up the good work! Lauren - Congratulations for achieving player of the week (again) for your two home runs and grand slam, what an achievement!!! Abbie - Your batting was spectacular this week. Well done! Mariana - Good job whacking those balls away; you made it look so easy! Sophie - Marvelous work catching, it must have been hard in the hot weather! Darcie - Outstanding work at catcher, you must have been hot under all that gear! Aurelia - Great running between bases. Keep it up! Jet, Alysia and Shona - We missed you this match and hope to see you next week. And me, I feel so lucky to be on the Freckles Modball team. Ever since I started Modball in October I knew our games would be very fun and full of laughter. We have a great team and coach. ~ Sounds like Round 11 against the Disco Ducks was an eventful game and I heard you all played very well Freckles way to go girls! Congratulations Olivia for a great round of pitching too. Janine

Fallin' Angels B Grade Fallin' Angels vs Dirt Devils, won 14-2 Another Saturday, another fun day on the diamonds and a big thank you to our cheer squad, Eunice and Merita. Angels retake top spot on the ladder with a 14-2 win against Dirt Devils in a week that saw many upsets in B-Grade. The fight for top 4 is destined to intensify. Offensively, with the DD s pitchers struggling to find the strike zone we had our fair share of walks, with most Angels adopting a team batting approach. Helen felt like she was doing the Hockey Pokey, (in-out, in-out, shake it all about) dancing around the home plate to avoid a few erratic pitches. Not much action this week with our bats but Jo had 2 great hits...sending them down the left side, whizzing past 3rd base. NEXT PAGE...

Fallin' Angels continued... For the most part, we kept our heads, but occasionally, we like to ensure coach Vanessa is awake at 3rd base by sending a few directly at her, or trying desperately to hit anything close (we love our piñatas), and then we may also put down a bunt with bases loaded. Defensively, we saw it all! Dirt Devils showed some great at bats with 2 Triples to Centre Field (we ll blame the wind!) but that s were their luck ended. A line drive straight to Gayzee in right field made for an easy out and then an unfortunate hit straight into the legs of a runner simplified our job. And then there was the dog...small fluffy and white...wandering on to the left field. As Trudie desperately tried to shoo it away, it spun round a few times and promptly pooped in the outfield! Play of the day goes to Kerrie with a spectacular line drive catch at 2nd base and a quick flick to 1st base for the double play! Good friends on and off the diamonds, Angels finished the weekend with our Christmas Lunch and as always...lots of laughter. Helen Wyatt Fallin Angels Player
