SALEM R/C PILOTS ASSOCIATION General April 20, 2017 Mtg. The April 20, 2017 mtg of the Salem RC Pilots was called order by prez Alan L in the meeting room at Garmin Industries around 7:34 pm. There were 11 pilots in attendance. Minutes: I want to thank Stephen who took the minutes of the last meeting as I was off somewhere. they were approved as published. Treasurers Report: John let us all know that we still had money and the Bal as of the night was $xxx the Total number of members to date is 51 and our Average age of a pilot is 68.52, Gad we are really old. OLD BUS: John S spent $104 on moss killer for the runway and we agreed to get 8 bags approx. 400 lbs. of fertilizer in addition. WE will need someone with a strong back or something to apply the stuff when it is time. So, if you are strong or?????? let us know. THANKS to Robert Ramseyer for putting in our NEW electric in our metal storage trailer. He installed 2 4' Led Lites and 12 plug ins. This is all done in conduit and up around 36" which makes it handy to use. Again, our thanks for your time and effort. Bob also suggested that get a shelf system from Costco for the storage unit. there was a motion and vote and it was decided to get the shelving at an approx. cost $75. 1st Float Fly: Yes, we are at that time of year again and it will be the FIRST water fun on Sat. May 13th. Bring out your aircraft, boat or whatever floats and join us at the POND. REMEMBER: Melon's Follies will be Sat the 24th of June GAME is Sept 15,16,17 WarBird Aug 6th Elec Fly June 4th by Old Electric Dick Smith ECLIPSE: The eclipse is on Aug 21 sometime in the am. NO GENERAL PUBLIC will be allowed only MBRS and family. Bring your night flying aircraft as you will have about 2 min of darkness to fly. Also, we may have a BBQ so plan on coming out. Merle H will be using the field again this year the weekend after GAME to host a birthday party for his family. He does this every year and they have a great time. Way to go Merle! and drop a lot of candy for the kids. Chehalis Big Bird: Ted Foster brought up this event that is happening for three days July 14,15 and 16. there will be a flyer on the Web. Put on by Sky-Ward Hobbies that are always at 2
SRCPA May 12 th 2017 the Mac Swap meet. He is thinking of going up and supporting them and event so get ahold of Ted. NEED: 8 4' 2 tube flour for the covered area at the Field. Stephen says he will pick them up and start the process of install. He would like some help so if you have time please come out and help with the work. Dan Anderson Ole MR BBQ will be doing his thing on some Sundays this summer. That is cooking up some Hot Dogs etc. You never know when so come out and fly on Sunday a and have a Dog. Thanks Dan. WORK PARTY: Yes, we need one and pretty soon so an e-mail will come out and tell everyone when and what time. Get your Old stuff, tools etc. and be ready to get the field in shape for the flying season. Clothing: Pete suggested that we look at getting some NEW jackets (lite weight for summer) along with NEW caps and maybe 1/4 zip sweatshirts with our logo on them. He will check this out and prices and get back with the info. Drawing: the winner of the $20 was none other than Old Merle Hoem. Way to go. TECH TIME: Merle: brought his E-flight 25E Super Cub. Converted to gas and using a Saito.40. Now on floats and waiting for water. Floats are scratch built and look great still need the water rudders. also has a swamp boat (old 20 yrs.) runs on a.19, Dumas and will be at the float fly. Ted Foster: brought a new type of transmitter. FS i 10 Wi Fi 10 channel. Touch screen somewhat like your I-phone. Very intuitive. $150 but Hobby Partz has them for $140. comes with 10 channel receiver & Telemetry. By Fly Sky. Alan L brought his Kit Built Carl Goldberg Yellow Cub. looks great and will be on floats soon..91 engine and the floats are the old ones from 1991. See it at the float fly. John Stroup: brought his newest TOY in quad coptors. His new DJI Phantom 4 pro. It does it all and I can t even describe all the features. Events: SALEM R/C PILOTS ASSOCIATION FLOAT FLYS! Starting in May DIRECTIONS From Salem Take HWY 22 west turn right (North) on 99W and go about 11.1 miles and turn right onto Patty Rd. Go across bridge and find metal farm buildings on left and you will see pond. RULES AMA membership is required and remember you are on private property. There is a $5.00 Landing fee. DATES MAY 13 SAT MAY 21 SUN JUNE 10 SAT JUNE 18 SUN JULY 8 SAT JULY 23 SUN AUG 12 SAT AUG 20 SUN SEP 9 SAT SEP 24 SUN MELON S FOLLIES will be Sat June 24. So, mark it down and plan to come out and do some flying, eat and generally have a great time. See you there. WAR BIRD again headed by Mr. Dick Smith will be held on Aug 6 th. So this give you time to dust off the old warbird or get a new one done for the event. This was an exciting time last year so plan to attend. GAME: Our 19 th annual Fly in (3 days) will be Sept 15,16 and 17 so be sure and mark this down and come join all of us for the bash of the summer. Also, note there has been a reduction of size and wingspan of aircraft so check it out and get that plane ready. 4
